My input is this: I went to Vietnam multiples times with no issues with travelers diarrhea EXCEPT for my one issue in Hoi An. My group had no issues until that moment and after 2 weeks in Saigon. When we went to Hoi An, we ate at a spring roll place and after that my ass was a super soaker itching for a squirt every 10-15 min. Barely any place would let me take a shit/pew too. We suspect it had to do with the veggies and how the water content must be contaminated that made the whole group felt that way. Ice and beer no issues. Watch out for raw veggies.
I ate at a restaurant in Saigon 6 weeks ago. I had their fish hot pot and within 90 minutes got extremely sick. Everything was coming out of every orifice of my body and it sucked half the life out of me. They don't boil their soups to kill the bacteria. the hot pot was being cooked by a piece of wax they place under the pot and light it with a lighter. On a positive note I love Saigon and there are numerous restaurants that do cook the food well and are very delicious.
Good advice. I would just add to avoid uncooked vegetables. They don't clean them with filtered water. I got sick from the street food in Saigon in June. I'm 99% certain it was a Banh Mi. And you're correct, a pharmacy has the goods and it takes a week to recuperate. You also have to remember Asians have the gut biomes to handle more bacteria than American tourists.
Burnt toast I guess that like charcoal? Thats what my friend recomended and it seems to help. eating lots of garlic seems to help avoid stomach problems in advance. I will look out for charcoal pills next time though.
@@fatandbroke I saw the way they "processed" the ice, brother; a guy was chopping it up on the sidewalk where people had been spitting, etc. Sadly that was after I already drank the ice. I only ate pho on the street, incidentally.
The sickest I ever got in vietnam was from the Tourist village in Binh Quoi, rice paper rolls with salad and meat, I am guessing the vegetables were washed with tap water, all started ok, but later that night at my hotel, start getting the sweats, and boy I was out of action for 4 or 5 days!! Ice is another issue, have been sick from that too, but usually get over that very quickly!!
Medicinal carbon or charcoal tablets are very good for stomach problems. I discovered that in Thailand five years ago when Immodium was only effective for 8 hours. Ice was not on back in the 80s and 90s but no one seems to worry about it these days throughout SE Asia. Beer with ice in Vietnam is hard to get used to though.
This guy always helps out other’’s. What a beauty wearing her white dress that walked by with 2 other ladies. I think 1 of my favorite things he does is say HI to ladies sitting/ walking bye if they signal him. 1 word outstanding
Thanks for explaining the mentality part about "it's your fault if you don't check". That really clicked with me and made me see certain events that happened more positively! I believe ice is sketchy and I stay clear off it if possible. I've seen big blocks of ice get delivered right on the asfalt before the restaurant take it inside.
Currently in Hanoi and have been sick for the past 3 days. The complete lack of hygiene here is shocking. The people are great, but the fact that I’m now afraid to eat anything makes me never want to come back.
Just want to say thank you for the hard work you've put in for your viewers, greatly appreciated. Chris, I'll be in Da Nang and Hoi An in mid-December. Do you think the weather would have improved by then? Hey, maybe I'll bump into you when I'll be in Saigon.
When I visited in June 2019, I had a friend who lived in hcmc who picked me up from the airport, he got me bottles of water upon my arrival and told me to not drink ice from sketchy places lol
When I was there in June I didn't get sick but I was very careful first couple weeks. I didn't drink ice or eat any raw vegetables. Yeah, I didn't eat anything that looked sketchy and looked like it was baking in the sun. So even if they have everything covered, if they sitting there all day in the sun, I wouldn't eat it.
So all the ice everywhere is filtered? I’ve been told to avoid salad which you kind of implied with the plain banh mi. Also with seafood, I take it sushi like at sushi world you showed before is all good?
The problem with tablets like gastro stop and immodium in my opinion, is you go from having one issue with going to the bathroom too much, to the other extreme!!
Apparently I'm one of the dudes with iron stomachs.. 9 months in vn, only got food poisoning once, and that was from freshly bought eggs I cooked myself 😂

I got really sick from ice THREE times, twice in Sai Gon and once in Bien Hoa; the street food wasn't a big problem, however.
Are u sure it wasn't the reverse mate
@@fatandbroke 100%, I hadn't eaten anything at the time.
@@eagleman1542 food posing can take a day plus mate. Depends on the type of food and how it makes it through the system.

But you went back for ice two more times…

I had the opposite reaction the last time I was in VN. I was constipated for over a week and it all went away within hours of getting home.
weaksauce.

I’ce in beer ruins the taste. You might as well just do vodka soda.

That's the key is to avoid uncooked vegetables.
Interesting to watch you walk through traffic. Great advice on the food thanks!
the legendary pill with black like a chocolate LOL.
I use it a lot when I'm a kid, can't believe you know that.

Eating in SEA before 7pm = safe
Eating in SEA after 7pm = beware
Accurate
Video quality looking crisp man! Keep up the great work 🔥
Good content. Thank you
I ate everytime I saw a queue at a food joint 😂 I’m missing the food so much now I’m back.
Is it safe to eat raw herbs and veggies? Should I get some anti-diarrhea medicine before eating?
The problem with tablets like gastro stop and immodium in my opinion, is you go from having one issue with going to the bathroom too much, to the other extreme!!
