Great list and video. On the note of Diablo-like Doom, there's also the Doom/Hexen/Heretic based "Diablo 3D" which is straight up Diablo 1+2 in FPS. I guess it is more based on Hexen/Heretic overall because it uses the Wrath of Chronos mod but still is fantastic stuff with so much content nearly straight from D1 and D2.
If you want a more Hellish looking Doom variant with a larger bestiary, I suggest the crossover mod "Bloom". This, of course, is a mixture of places from the levels of Doom / Doom 2 and Blood, with the option of playing as either Doomguy or Caleb. You can also play normal iwad levels (and other mods) with the additional monsters and weapons. And if you want to shake things up even more, run Bloom with "Corruption Cards"; the cards can potentially add all sorts of modifiers, so you'll have a great time! Every playthrough is different, as a pseudorandom seed generator with randomly pick a card each time you start a level for the first time.
I am sprite and voxel artist of Doom Exp. I made the power ups. This happened some 2 years ago (iirc) when I was giving ideas to the author. He accepted and I made the sprites. When he chose to move up with voxels I learned voxel modeling. Was fun.

Thanks for this. I just got into Doom recently and I've only played the Happy Time Circus 2 wad.. lol I've been looking for something and all of these look even better.
I've tried to sit down and beat prodoomer so many times over the years before eventually forcing myself to beat it one week. The only thing i can really say about the whole thing is that it has some honestly great maps in the second half, the constant new spells and the fact all the weapons are viable with upgrades, and the general batshit tone all made for a great experience. that is if you play on the easiest difficulty. its VERY clear the harder difficulties were not tested without being level 30 from the start with spare money for summons, or the actual intent of the creator was to save scum nearly every level, since some levels can take longer than an hour to beat, and maps like archer's forest just being a nightmare of instant death. seeing a new game plus open after beating the game both made me feel like an idiot and pissed as hell, because it means the creator wanted you to play through the entire almost 25 hour mod AGAIN to get a harder experience, and with 100% completion it can easily take well over 2 hours a map, especially with the rings and super secrets not counting towards map completion leading to them being easy to miss. I wouldnt gave kept trying to play prodoomer if it didnt have at least some quality that kept drawing me in, but after finally finishing it, i can say i will never do it again.
As always I never heard of these and they look amazing. Prodoomer looks the best to me and I'll check it out first. Always like seeing weapons from other games like shadow warrior,blood... wish there were mods that include Serious Sam weapons but oh well. Great job!
I’ve never seen an RPG where you can keep a journal,in character,and have it be an actual thing you can input text into (technically there’s vendetta online but that’s a space sim). It’s REEEEALLY good

Prodoomer looks like a hodge podge of stuff from different games. I never thought I'd see Sonic 06's ranking screen or get Phantasy Star Online vibes in a Doom mod.
The Hot and bothered ratchet clank turns any mapsets into an rpg. The weapons lvl up and change with each lvl up. There's so many to. The stronger the enemy the more gun xp it drops. It's really underrated, it's op but not overly op and you have to get your guns to higher lvl to get really crazy so it's well balanced.
the Lithium Doom mod is very interesting I'm going to check it out for myself and the Fact you can Flip someone to death in this game is Hilarious to do

I'm suprised back in the day there wasn't more rpg style games using the doom engine, like actual full released games. It would have been a great engine for an action rpg.
Why would you NOT play classic Doom? It has none of the modern video game agenda like play time, addicting loop, bla bla all this sh*t that ruins your life. Doom is just FUN, no stats no skill tracking, just fun. And then you have endless free content to enjoy with mods!

Auger Zenith and Lithium are the best map+gameplay mod combo BUT THEY'RE NOT COMPATIBLE ANYMORE!! Ive been harrassing both authors to do something about it to no avail. Anybody knows a workaround?
Same, i would make a massive weapon pack, make loot randomized, and limit the player to two guns. I would have a randomized boss fight every 3 levels too.
From those I've already played ProDoom (only the intro) and Lithium with the great Auger Zenith WAD which's a match made in...heaven ? Hell ? Who cares, it's a great combination.

Pretty scummy if that's true. Its a shame because Lithium is actually one of my favourite gameplay mods. Anyway, a lot of Doom fans are american so they bring "american values" into everything. This goes double for GZDoom developers and people who make mods exclusive to GZDoom.

It's surprisingly easy with the help of the zdoom wiki, ya just need SLADE3 and the motivation really.
