yo buddy, did you know the Atomic situp is the inspiration for that scene in this movie? I bet it was affected by "notes" or just tasteful way to tone it down for kids. The "atomic situp" involves people holding the towel down over the eyes while one attempts to do a situp, creating tension that the master must overcome, they then release the towel and fling the master's face into the asscrack of the hairiest kid in camp. Did you catch that? This movie was DARK fr haha. I like when they just talk straight up about pushing Tony off the cliff. Best kids movie ever!
This movie was extremely impactful to me as a kid. I was 7 when it came out, and I vividly remember multiple things while watching this. I had a huge crush on Leah Lail, especially. Her, Amy Jo Johnson, and Alicia Silverstone were all over my room. I was the biggest kid in my school when this was around, so it really meant something that there's a movie for us overweight as well. Especially during a time the majority of children weren't obese, and back when it was constantly shamed for being so. Thank you for making this clip.
I think heavyweights perfectly balances the idea of self acceptance, while still saying that self improvement is never wrong. After they defeat Ben Stiller, they don't just say "no more bad guy, be fat forever" instead they still show them learning more beginner exercises and learning to make foods better for their health.
Yeah I agree. Forcing 50 fat kids to do punitive exercise and eat lettuce isn't effective. It's now seen as a punishment for being fat. When you make it fun then kids will be more inclined to be motivated. I like how in the end they weren't sedentary. Their goal was just about them moving their body and with baby steps they'll develop those healthy habits.
Even as a 35 year old, this is still my favorite movie ever. Watched it every sunday as a kid at my grandmas and still watch it with my kids several times a year.
I can't tell you how many times I've rewatched that scene when they weigh the kids for the first time!! "You've broken my camera" in the German accent would get me every time 😂😂😂
I wanted to include that clip but I kept getting copyright claimed by Disney. Literally hilarious, you can even see Allen Covert cracking up behind him.
Originally, Josh says, "Peter Fitz," and Tony responds, "Who's Peter Fitzs?" to which Josh replies, "anyones peter fits of you push hard enough uncle Tony".
"Attention campers today's lunch has been cancelled today due to lack of 'hustle'. Deal with it..." Still one of the greatest quotes in cinematic history. Thanks for spotlighting this gem. I vaguely remember seeing this not too long after it was made available for home viewing in the 90's. I loved whenever it came on the Disney Channel every so often, and I still love the movie to this day. Shame that Disney didn't have much faith in it.
I still live this movie. Lars is one of the greatest characters ever. He went from doing everything he could to make those kids miserable to being one of their best friends towards the end of the film. The scene where he buries his face in junk food with the kids after they captured and tied up Tony was hilarious. "I'm with you.... I love you." 🤣
My favorite PG kids movie. Tony Perkis is the greatest comedic villain of all time and I hate that nobody really acknowledges how great this movie is. Also, Stiller repurposes bits. Obviously for Dodgeball, but also in Starsky and Hutch. His character's "alias" that he creates later in the film is "Maury Finkel of Finkel Lighting Fixtures" is just Tony Perkis Sr, the lighting fixture king of the midwest.
"At age 12 I weighed 319 pounds.. I had bad skin, low self-esteem, and no self respect.. NOW I eat success for breakfast!.... with skim milk" I could quote this movie almost line for line at a point in my childhood.
I can't believe I didn't hear of this movie till now. No joke paused this video 4 minutes in to go ahead and watch it because I knew it sounded right up my alley and it definitely did not disappoint. Thank you for that!!
This movie has had an enormous effect on my life, inspiring daily quotes, intramural team names, costumes, gifts, and even my way of life. It's no doubt within my top two films of all time, and I cannot believe it's not more beloved. Ben Stiller's greatest role by far: nuanced, deep, hilarious, and completely fearless. Thanks for honoring it with this video. Now I'm gonna go climb that thousand-foot rock face over there with my bare hands and feet.
One of my favorite moments from this movie is during the raid of the chipmunk bunk, Tony tries to convince everyone he's not that bad a guy. He asks Roy to give him a hug, only to use it as an opportunity to frisk him and find a pez dispenser in his sock. "Looks like my man is packin!" He opens up the pez dispenser, takes out the candy and throws them on the ground all the while the sound effects make it sound like he was unloading a gun. Hilarious.
Low key racist lol.. remember when he's calling out the kids and what he sees their future being? Points at Roy "I see a famous rap artist" and I think the laser pointer was to illuminate the crease of the wood to see if it was solid or as he found out, was a secret stash spot.

I loved it as well. Also, when Dodgeball came out I recalled "Ben Stiller already did that role in Heavyweights" Both movies are still great and funny imo
For years, every time I picked up something heavy (well, heavy for me, at least) I would quote Stiller with the ‘Come on you devil log!’ line. Don’t know why that scene always stuck with me. 😂
Both plus Salute Your Shorts totally made up for the fact that my family was too poor to even consider real Summer Camp. Today I have better memories to share than my wife who did go to real Summer Camp every year.
I was a fat kid and was always sad that I never got to go to a camp with all my fellow brethren. This movie was the closest thing to that I ever had. For that, I will always love it.
plus it was too funny. remember when gerry walked home and that baseball dropped in front of him? he threw it like 2 times and couldnt get it over the fence? then he picked it up and ran to the lower part of the fence and still couldnt get it over that part of the fence. common bro that is humor.
I remember watching this movie everytime I went to my grandmothers house since she had a lot of miscellaneous VHS tapes. This explains my sense of humor so much. Love you Grandma!
This is still my favorite kids movie, and it 100% holds up as just fun movie. I think I first saw it on VHS, rented from Blockbuster. I remember when I got older and rewatched it for the first time and realized Ben Stiller was the main villain, as I had not remembered that. Ben Stiller was in so many great movies from the 90's-2000's. Heavyweights, Zoolander, Mystery Men, Dodgeball, There's Something About Mary and Meet the Parents. He was one a roll for a while.
Ben Stiller is a great director, too. I know a lot of people think that "The Cable Guy" is one of Jim Carrey's worst movies, but it's only gotten better with time and I personally love it.
Something about Mary was THE premier R rated, romantic comedy of the time. I still remember my friend's mom and an older man watching it one night while me and her son went and fucked off as was appropriate. I think we watched Desperado that night. Fantastic movie.
This movie is a staple in my household. My girlfriend and kids have watched this more than 100 times and my brother and myself send Tony quotes to one another from time to time. This movie is timeless!
Damn, Keenan Thompson was born to act. It’s easy to see how he landed his spot on All That after this movie. Also, Ben Stiller was waaaaaaaay ahead of his time in this movie. His performance felt like prototypes for Zoolander and Dodgeball.
Kenan was unreal in this movie. He was only 16 and had just as much screen presence as the adult actors. I grew up with his era of “All That” and “Kenan and Kel” so it was super weird to discover Heavyweights a few years after those shows.
It’s no wonder Kenan has become the longest running SNL cast member in the shows history, he really puts his all into every character he plays. I’ve also heard behind the scenes he’s always a leader and highly supportive to his fellow cast members and works directly with the writers to flesh out scenes/bits
So glad someone made a video on this movie. I loved it as kid because I’ve always been a heavyweight myself. The comedy, the clothing styles, and the message always inspired me.
Now that you mention it this movie is showing big guys how to dress and look neat. Kind of adds more to the movie not being a low brow joke on fat kids.
I was a U.S. Marine deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 , and one of the guys in my platoon had trouble maintaining the weight standards, so our platoon sergeant made him track his weight weekly. Every time I witnessed this I’d comment in Lars’ accent “congratulations Mr. Simms, you’re the fattest boy in camp.”
Ive LOVED this movie for years. I remember renting this over and over as a kid. Such an underrated classic. What i really appreciated was the kids all did a decent job acting, there was so much talent all around in this movie. 'Im doggin it today!' Is a line i still say. Oh and yes RIP Jerry Stiller. You absolute legend.
@@jesusmontemayor6013 I'll be honest back then I thought it was a "girl" movie so I never really gave it a fair chance. Although for some reason I loved the Halloween town movies 😂 go figure.
This is a summer movie for me. I’ve owned the DVD for decades and watch it every summer. One of Ben Stiller’s best performances. Makes me nostalgic for 90s summer camp.
As a kid I saw this movie at my local video store and thinking “these are the mighty duck kids!!” Rented it and it was the funniest movie I had seen. My kids today love this movie too, everyone in that movie is just naturally funny.
I think about this movie at least once a month. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a limited series or full series. There’s so much left to explore. As a former fat kid myself this movie was pivotal in discovering who I was in the late 90s
My sister and I loved this movie, always looked forward to seeing it on the Disney Channel because it felt so different from normal Disney Channel Original movies. Also it was so hilarious to see Ben Stiller basically play the same guy twice, in this movie and Dodgeball.
Heavyweights is one of my favorite childhood movies, and I have now been able to share it with my kids who also loved it. I’m 40 years old now and still return to this movie once every year or 2 and laugh just as hard as I did when I was a kid.
My uncle bought me this movie on VHS when it came out and is still one of my favorites of all time. I’ve shown this movie to all my kids. True classic.
I loved this movie growing up, found it at Blockbuster and my brother and I would rent it fairly often for a few years. So many quotable lines. And even watching it on Disney+ a year or so ago, it still holds up. May they never remake it.
Love this film! I got it on VHS back in the day. I bought it as a previously viewed video from a rental place. After my first time seeing it, it quickly became an instant classic and a regular movie i’ve revisited many times over the years. So many quotable lines and inside jokes with my buddies back then.
I totally forgot about this movie until this video popped up in my feed. I remember watching this over and over on the Disney channel. Such a good movie. Thanks for the memories!
I'm almost 41 and seen heavyweights plenty of times as well as dodgeball and I'm completely baffled I never made the connection between white Goodman and tony Perkins....other than the actor. There's no way that wasn't done on purpose
This movie caught on in my family, for all the reasons mentioned in this video. Many classic lines. Stiller's character's break down during the film's finale is hilarious. Throwing the drinking glasses on the floor and stepping on them with perverse pleasure ha ha! "Uncle Tony's gonna do a demo"
I loved this movie... heck I still love this movie. I never even heard of it before just randomly showing up at the theater and picked it as a random movie. This movie is awesome!
This and "Under Wraps" were the best things I ever saw on Disney Channel as a kid and always almost like a personal secret because seemingly NOBODY else ever knew about either of them when I was a kid. I've only ever known one other person who knew about Heavyweights and he's my coworker. 20+ years of nobody else ever knowing what I was talking about LMFAO
I remember seeing Dodgeball in high school and having the suspicion that Dwight and tony were the same dude. Like you said, I remember seeing this movie on TV as a kid and never really being aware that it came out in theaters.
I saw this movie the day it came out back in 1995. I've always enjoyed it and it has Held up REMARKABKLY well after nearly 30 years. It is still funny and way ahead of it's time. And the deleted scenes make it an entirely different movie. There are nearly 90 minutes of deleted scenes. Some are better than what is actually in the film.
I loved this movie growing up. I remember that even though it was a low budget disney film Ben did not mail his performance in. He went all out. I appreciated that.
Fun fact: the original Seymour Butts joke was "Peter Fitz" "Who's Peter Fitz?" "Anyone's peter fits if you push hard enough!" I bought the special feature Blu Ray specifically to find out what that joke originally was lol. Not surprised they took that one out
Yeah I almost included the original clip in the video, but Disney kept copyright claiming that one clip for some odd reason. I think Seymour Butts is funnier anyway.
@@MediaPastimes lol it sounds like Disney doesn't want that clip getting out 😂 and I agree Seymour Butts is better, using Peter Fitz would have shaken up the movie world and we may have never seen Heavyweights Also, this is probably my most watched movie of all time so I love that you did a deep dive on it
I never had cable and the only time I saw this movie was the numerous times I rented it yet I still remember hearing the "Peter Fitz" line. It had to have been on some version of a vhs rental. Murph, does the bluray show what the camp mvp kids originally say over the megaphone? In the movie they just repeat "you stink you stink you stink" but I could swear they said something more hurtful.

I had this on vhs and rewatched this so many times!!!! Now my kids love it as well
i loved this movie when i was a kid totally forgot about it thanks for reminding me of this comedy master piece
I'm 33. Heavyweights is a movie I remember very very vividly from my childhood and will never forget. Awesome movie to this day!
Same! I'm 33 as well. I bought this movie on Blu-Ray, it looks amazing.
@@califaern3sto Sit back and enjoy!
This movie is a staple in my household. My girlfriend and kids have watched this more than 100 times and my brother and myself send Tony quotes to one another from time to time. This movie is timeless!
This movie is a CLASSIC! I remember being in high school and nearly all the athletes loved this movie growing up, it was amazing.
Greatest Disney Comedy ever made
Catching this movie on Disney channel back in the day was like an event! Loved it so much and it still holds up!
@@MediaPastimesbetween this movie and mighty ducks are my favorite keenan movies outside of good burger.
@@Hybridhero26 He was hilarious in D2 as well, such a good smack talker.
@@MediaPastimes "i bet if the puck was a cheeseburger youd stop it!" This lives in my head rent free as one of my favorite lines in the movie.
It’s no wonder Kenan has become the longest running SNL cast member in the shows history, he really puts his all into every character he plays. I’ve also heard behind the scenes he’s always a leader and highly supportive to his fellow cast members and works directly with the writers to flesh out scenes/bits
This is by far the MOST quoted movie in my family. We watch it about once a month. Such comedy gold.
My sister and I loved this movie. We still randomly quote "Please put your fat finger down!" and "You have broken my camera!!"
"You've broken my camera!" still gets me 🤣
So glad someone made a video on this movie. I loved it as kid because I’ve always been a heavyweight myself. The comedy, the clothing styles, and the message always inspired me.
Now that you mention it this movie is showing big guys how to dress and look neat. Kind of adds more to the movie not being a low brow joke on fat kids.
Wild to think how long Judd Apatow's work has been in my life without me knowing it. Dude is an amazing writer.
"This pleases me" & "I'm feeling skinny Tony" are quotes me & my friend use to this day. Highly underrated movie
True
Never let anyone sign your checks!
@@MrSkeefoo don't put twinkes on your pizza um no something about slef displine right tim "I disappointed in all of you
This is my favorite Disney movie. I clicked on this as fast as I could once I saw it in my recommendation vids
One of Ben Stiller's best performances, classic.
😂
Did everyone cheer and he bowed to the crowd lol
Did everyone cheer and he bowed to the crowd lol
GET DOWN! 😂
As a army vet we were definitely on the body system for awhile in basic lol
Man I love this movie. Definitely a classic from my childhood. Now at 40, I still watch it. Always takes me back to good times. 😀
“DO IT TO IT LARS!” Is the line I still say constantly, probably a little too much. But I can’t help it. This movie is a masterpiece lol
Still watch this from time to time. Classic
This was one of many Disney movie gems from the 90s and early 2000s! The paper brigade is another one of my favorites
Dude, I LOVED the paper brigade. Robert Englund as the insane neighbor was one of the greatest performances in a kids movie.
@@MediaPastimes totally agree! Oh and brink! Was another good one alongside Jhonny tsunami!
Paper brigade was very underrated imo. Brink is a classic too.
How do y'all feel about zenon?? It was another low key gem imo
One of my favorite movies of all time! Had no idea it was co written by Judd Apatow!
This is one of the few movies I watched a hundred times when I was a kid and to this day remember it as one of my favorite movies.
"Alright! Get on the scale!" *high five* "GET OFF THE SCALE!"
Absolutely LOVE this movie. An all time classic!
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. It was a repeat rental for me. Lars made me laugh so hard and I still say "I vill join you" randomly haha
9:53 this image man. Heavyweights followed by smart house is iconic. Classic Disney channel. I’m 32. So this is right in my era
Made me remember smart house
Luck of the Irish and brink, I remember some of those movies I definitely remember the Smart House movie
I remember this movie when I was a kid. One of my favorite movies.
I’ve always loved this movie and I’m shocked at how many people haven’t seen it, in my eyes it’s definitely a “classic” 😁👍🏼
Don’t think a movie like this would fly today people are too sensitive
Greatest Disney movie of all time and it's not even close. Ben stiller is great in this role and I watch it every year on my birthday:)
Kids movies back in the day were amazing. Heavyweights a timeless classic.
One of my favorite movies ever. 38 years old and I still love this movie.
Me too! This was hilarious to watch as a kid! Still is even today!
I wish Disney made more of these. Kids don't need their hands held through this sort of subject matter, we get the jokes and it works.
One of my all-time favorite childhood movies, Ben Stiller is truly best when he’s playing a comedic villain
Heav weights has always been a favorite of mine and Under Wraps was awesome too. Saw that a couple different Halloweens
You are not the first person to make the Tony/White connection. Love both of those films so much.
“Love Machine” still makes me think of Lars! One of my favorite childhood movies!
This pleases me.
I remember seeing Dodgeball in high school and having the suspicion that Dwight and tony were the same dude. Like you said, I remember seeing this movie on TV as a kid and never really being aware that it came out in theaters.
They are cousins lol
I saw this movie the day it came out back in 1995. I've always enjoyed it and it has Held up REMARKABKLY well after nearly 30 years. It is still funny and way ahead of it's time. And the deleted scenes make it an entirely different movie. There are nearly 90 minutes of deleted scenes. Some are better than what is actually in the film.
This is my favorite movie when i was a kid in the 90s
I watched this movie in the theater as a kid. I bought a copy of the movie when it came out. Still a fav.
I loved this movie so much, me and my brothers watched it so many times.
Such a great classic, Ben Stiller is phenomenal ❤❤❤

"The candy belongs to Peter Fitz"
"Peter Fitz? Who's Peter Fitz huh? Who's Peter Fitz!?"
"Anybody's Peter Fits if you push hard enough"
You picked the wrong man to mess with
I loved this movie growing up. I remember that even though it was a low budget disney film Ben did not mail his performance in. He went all out. I appreciated that.
So many quotable lines from this movies. I still say them randomly to this day lol. Great video.
Me and my brothers still quote this movie all the time .. absolute classic. Had a camp hope T shirt too
Fun fact: the original Seymour Butts joke was "Peter Fitz"
"Who's Peter Fitz?"
"Anyone's peter fits if you push hard enough!"
I bought the special feature Blu Ray specifically to find out what that joke originally was lol. Not surprised they took that one out
Yeah I almost included the original clip in the video, but Disney kept copyright claiming that one clip for some odd reason. I think Seymour Butts is funnier anyway.
@@MediaPastimes lol it sounds like Disney doesn't want that clip getting out 😂 and I agree Seymour Butts is better, using Peter Fitz would have shaken up the movie world and we may have never seen Heavyweights
Also, this is probably my most watched movie of all time so I love that you did a deep dive on it
I never had cable and the only time I saw this movie was the numerous times I rented it yet I still remember hearing the "Peter Fitz" line. It had to have been on some version of a vhs rental.
Murph, does the bluray show what the camp mvp kids originally say over the megaphone? In the movie they just repeat "you stink you stink you stink" but I could swear they said something more hurtful.
That's why it's my Gamertag
I don’t get it
