Put this up there with sequels like Space Jam: A New Legacy; it’s the movie you wish existed, when it finally came to be it was trash, and now you forget that it even exists.
The only good thing to come from the Space Jam sequel was that one scene where dozens of recognizable WB characters were watching a basketball game. Seeing Pennywise the dancing clown, war boys from mad max, and the joker cheering in the background was so damn funny. But yeah, otherwise it was awful.
I'll add another to the list. Bill and Ted part 3 or whatever it was called. Don't remember because it wasn't good enough for me to care lol. Either way. That movie might give this one a run for it's money for which is worse
I absolutely love Bill & Ted (both Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey), and just recently re-watched the third movie. It was clearly a step down from the original two, but I didn't find it as insufferable to watch as Dumb and Dumber To. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are just so likable that it's hard to hate on that movie.
If you don't feel like pausing at 3:08 - "I like both of these movies, and it wasn't intentional that I name dropped two films with Woody Harrelson. He's the man, and a great actor. Thank you for taking the time to pause the video and read this message. Enjoy the rest of the episode :)"
This sequel was a big, unfunny disappointment. It really did suck. However, I do LOVE two specific jokes in it. The first is the short montage of the duo finding their way to the address of the letter to start their journey, only to end up back at the same house they started cause they followed the return address. The second is when they buy the winning lottery ticket and toss it out cause they "never get the numbers in the right order". These two moments reminded me of the first film's genius dumb humor and would have fit perfectly within it. P.S. I had forgotten about the banana gag. Thanks for showing that hilarious throw-away.
I also like that joke with the train and the camo. Those also got a chuckle out of me, but man is it not worth watching the whole thing again for them.
The funniest and most ironic thing about Dumb and Dumber is that the dialogue is brilliant, the characters aren't always blindingly stupid, and there were moments they functioned like normal people, Harry could read, Lloyd pulled off that insane stunt on Sea Bass, but the sequel had both that Flanders effect where the stupidity was both amplified and blatant alongside it being mean spirited in ways and so much more petty and meaningless. I am not surprised this was used for the purposes alleged.
Ten years ago, this was my most anticipated movie of the year, because I loved the first one so much. I remember even getting excited for the trailer and since then, I had long looked forward to seeing it…and then the film came out. I was liking it till towards the end and after the film finished, I hated it. I was so angry. Considering that I am such a fan of the first one, this felt like betrayal. Twenty whole years and this is the best they could come out with? What gives? Since then, I can’t bring myself to revisiting it, because it is so embarrassing. I have never been so disappointed with a long delayed sequel in my life. So thank you for destroying this movie.
After seeing it in 2015, I swore to myself that I'd never watch it again. But once I learned about the money laundering scandal that financed it I just couldn't resist. And I swear, when I sat down to watch it for this video - I went into it optimistic. But it might have actually gotten worse over time. If I had a copy of the movie to throw into the garbage, I would have ended the video with that.
@@MediaPastimes If you ever feel that way again about a movie and have a copy, Shit DVD's make amazing coasters. They protect the surface of your table and over time the bottom of your mugs will scratch them so much they become completely unwatchable 👍
The closest we'll ever get to a spiritual successor (and a lot of people would probably disagree) is Step Brothers. I wonder if the Farrelly brothers saw Rob Riggle in that movie and decided to cast him in dumb and dumber to because of it 🤔
I can't believe Carrey did this. He must have thought with his comical genius he could just carry it? You just cant understand, these are PROFESSIONALS and they thought this script worked? I didn't even finish it. not even close to half way through, thoroughly disgusted.
Its weird how bad the movie is. Not only is the story and acting bad but I hate that comedy isn't grounded in any reality anymore. It's so over the top with CGI and stuff it just ruins everything.
Aside from the cgi, what makes movies like D&D2 so insufferable and unbelievable is all the cartoonish crap like Lloyd blowing dust off his hand after reaching into the old woman. So stupid too, just gross moronic crap. I think the farrelly brothers are deranged. Like they're literally confused and don't know what's going on. And they've made such crap besides "To" I'm starting to think the original D&D had to have had a ghost writer or something. That and/or a lot of it was improv, especially since it was their first movie. Because there's no way I can believe the same people responsible for the orginal wrote this turd.
as a big fan of the original it blows my mind how TERRIBLE the sequel is, like a normal bad sequel would at least has some moments or anything memorable (Blues brothers 2000 with its soundtrack, Scary movie 2 has the butler and so on) but there's nothing good nor memorable in this. sure it's not as awful as son of the mask...but i kind of wish it was since that one was at least bizarre, dumb and dumber two is just a plain bad movie where nothing works. best thing i can say is that at least doesn't ruin the first one (not for a lack of trying mind you) like a lot of modern sequels do
Hold on just a god dxmned minute… Did you just suggest Scary Movie 2 was a bad sequel?? Its better than the first movie bruh and I don’t think you’ll find many ppl that disagree with me. Matter of fact, the 3rd one is funny af too. The 4th one is complete ass tho

@@poindextertunes Nah the 2nd one was boring and it didn't even had to be thar way since there are A LOT of hilarious scenes that for some reason were deleted
Seen Dumb and Dumber multiple times as a kid, when Dumb and Dumber 2 was coming out I was excited and then saw it and walked out of the theater questioning what I just saw. The problem I had is that with the first while Harry & Lloyd are dumb Harry was clearly the smartest of the two but Lloyd when he wants revenge is smart. In the sequel both characters feel more like cartoon characters than actual people and there’s character to balance one another. Felt very uneven, I’ll even argue to say that Dumb and Dumberer was better
I paused to read the quick pop-up. I saw "Doc Hollywood". It was a good enough movie that they basically remade it into "Cars". I remember I liked it but certainly not enough to re-watch it. So imagine my surprise when I just learned that Woody Harrelson was in it.
I loved the original Dumb and Dumber until TBS ran it into the ground in the late 90s. They played it constantly. There was nothing else really to do back then. Internet was slow and boring too so you had to watch cable and whatever was on and of course you are going to watch Dumb and Dumber if it's on... The sequel is just sad. Sad seeing them so old. Sad thinking that is now 10 years old itself. It's 𝘵𝘩𝘦 symbolic bad legacy sequel to be a shining example of why legacy sequels need to not keep happening. Leave the memories alone.
Making a sequel to a comedy two decades later is rarely a recipe for success. Everyone involved (actors, writers, directors) are in a different stage of their lives now and their senses of humor inevitably change. Even if they still appreciate the original they just don't have what it takes to do something similar. That being said, it looks like very little effort was put into writing this one. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone was doing it out of a sense of obligation rather than actual desire to do it.
Dumb and Dumber To basically used the characterization of Lloyd and Harry that was cut out of the original. There’s a deleted scene where Lloyd calls Harry a “homo”. Doesn’t land and feels mean spirited and not funny. My biggest issue is the setting is a lot goofier than the first. It’s more like a looney tune than an adult comedy.
I think the best way to explain why the sequel wasn’t good is that in the first one only Harry and Lloyd acted like idiots. In the sequel everyone acts like an idiot.
8:40 I believe “straight man” is the term you’re looking for. Annoying characters need someone to annoy and thus, the “straight man” was born. Think Ted Knight in Caddyshack

I saw Dumb & Dumber to in the Theatre here in Ireland when it was out. I knew it was gonna be rough when there was no laughter at all for the first 30 mins. It does get a little funnier as it goes along but that whole sequence at the start with Lloyd faking his illness is comedy poison that shits on the original classic.
That cartoon was the best sequel, and the true sequel was the best comedy I saw that year. My cousin and I laughed the same way we did when we watched the 1st part as kids
I went and saw this movie in the theaters. I was so excited, how could you not be? It had the Farrelly brothers back at the helm and Jim Carrey with Jeff Daniels. Leaving the theater I questioned my own existence. How could it be so bad? I owned the original on DVD and Blu-Ray, heck I even owned the Soundtrack on CD. It was on my top ten comedies list somewhere. Now, I prefer to pretend that the sequel doesn’t even exist. Dumb and Dumber though, such a great one off movie.
My feelings exactly. I've rewatched Dumb and Dumber about 15 times since this sequel came out (and had seen it countless times prior), but have only ever watched the sequel twice. Hell, even though I don't love the prequel, I probably go back and revisit that one every few years.
I’ve watched the original over 50 times. Probably over a hundred. It’s my favorite movie of all time. I was pumped for the sequel but walked out of the theater wishing it had never been made.
Something tells me this video is going to be fantastic and since you don’t have 1 million subscribers, something tells me Handyman Jim LLC might sponsor you and that’s just the beginning🎉
Yep, just about. Also, the soundtrack for the first one cannot be topped. The aerial shots of a Midwestern road trip paired with 90s alt rock is why that movie was so good. It made us all want to rip it up across the country.
The audience (We) probably all had a Principal Skinner moment at some point and said it is the children who are wrong. But as Grandpa Simpson would say "its a little from column a and a little from column b" Setting all of that aside and abstract from everything else. I want to return to the "Theres Something about Mary" universe. At least that's something that will rely heavily on its source material and have a latent responsibility to not repeat the original premise other than ......in this movie where they have a erstwhile duty to honor the original.
This was an excellent video, dude. And lol at all the people in the comments who can't get past how much the movie sucks and not how much like $50m in stolen money behind it sucking even more
You know you're in trouble when Jordan Belfort himself suspects that the money that funded both movies were stolen, after they sold the rights to his book
It's actually much more than 50k. And it's not just a steering wheel, it's much more. It's essentially the key, the main control unit and brain of the car.
I’ll never forget. My first ever sleepover in first grade, I rented dumb and dumber on vhs tape. My friends and I could not stop laughing and rewinding. Finally the vhs just destroyed the tape due to all the rewinding. I was so scared to tell my parents! I ended up waking them up at 4am in tears to confess what happened
The sequel lacked heart and substance, which is a big reason why the original landed and is still so favoured by many. In the original, despite Harry & Lloyd's shortcomings, there is a common thread of relatability and heart and it doesn't take that or the audience for granted. The script and comedy in the original was ironically smart/clever, despite it's title. The sequel is just flat-out dumb with no real substance or heart behind it. A parody of itself, which in turn takes the audience for granted as it feels like the people behind it intentionally just took a giant turd on the original's legacy at the detriment of the audience. It literally feels like those behind the sequel didn't think the audience was smart enough to appreciate another legitimately funny and clever dumb comedy. The acting by Carey & Daniels in the sequel also seems forced, like they're trying too hard to be funny, though age has little to do with that. They're proven top-tier actors. A better script would have complimented their talent a lot more and made their acting feel more natural, like it feels in the original. Overall a slap in the face to the very demographic they claimed to have made the movie for.
Yes exactly. The original is a smart movie. The sequel seems like it was made under the pretense the movie itself has to be as dumb as possible but that is the antithesis of the original's success. A comedy about idiots can't be made by idiots.
This is a perfect example of gaining wisdom as you age. I remember my friends and I in HS being really excited for the prequel in 2003. A lot of ppl don’t remember that movie even exists but due to my excitement then disappointment, its still vivid in my mind. About a year ago, I saw someone talking about Dumb and Dumber To and I was thoroughly confused as to when they made a sequel, tho eventually I did vaguely remember seeing a picture of Jeff Daniel’s and Jim Carrey on the set. My wisdom was seeing that picture and ignoring it bc it’ll probly be a disappointment. And if it isn’t, I’ll surely hear about it and go see it. But there was no use in thinking about it anywhere beyond that
The sequel is not that bad. To say Dumb and Dumberer is a better movie is completely absurd. It's not as good as the first one but to expect that is ludicrous.
bro fr - at least I got a singular laugh at Bob Saget in Dumb & Dumber-er - the "official" sequel is legitimately one of (if not THE) the worst things I've ever seen & I have no idea how it was not only written by the same people but managed to have the cast return for it. I think it's the most blackpilling thing I've ever witnessed in regard to cinema especially all things considered
I didn't like the second movie that much until I watched it a few more times. There is so many funny bits in the movie that you just don't catch the first time around. I love the movie now.
Yeah dumb and dumber to was fucking trash unfortunately. It may as well be directed by someone else because other than the cast, it has zero resemblance to the first one
I liked it. And I bought the tickets for the movie. People forget the original movie had un modern comedy too. When he fell in love with the guys kid. That was so funny The memories were great lol
Seeing Pharrell having involvement in that Red Granite Party got me thinking that the soon-to-be-released biopic of his shouldn't have to rely on LEGO to carry it.
Nah I think I was just (poorly) implying that studio executives probably don't see movies the same way we do. They value box office returns over everything else. The concept of a "comfort movie" probably wouldn't even resonate with people like that.
The executives were probably right to not have too many callbacks to the first film. Callbacks in a comedy movie are usually the result of creative bankruptcy.
I watched the first one and it's funny. It's also very dumb and the story is just as dumb. I don't know why people expect the other movies in the series to be any different lol

Remember when Jordan Belfort funded the Hulk Hogan film Santa with Muscles?
Holy fuck. Touche
@@kvnprime.
Belfort scammed people out of millions of dollars, and so did the company that made his movie.
The fact that the even real Jordan suspected it was a racket is hilariously poetic.
Joe dirt 2
@@anothergamingchannel2656 oh my god, I forgot there was another Bill and Ted!
Nothing can be as bad as zoolander 2. It was like the people who wrote it had absolutely no idea why people loved the first film.
Facts! Also, I know PEOPLE hate Anchorman 2 but I liked it, I actually thought it was a pretty good follow-up all things considered.
@@allahumaameen agreed, anchorman 2 wasn't bad
@@allahumaameenanchorman 2 is pretty good. one of the better comedy sequels.
Caddyshack 2 is probably the worse comedy sequel of all time.
I remember looking forward to Zoolander 2 and Deadpool releasing the same weekend.
The story behind the movie turns out to be more interesting and a better twist than the movie itself!
If you don't feel like pausing at 3:08 - "I like both of these movies, and it wasn't intentional that I name dropped two films with Woody Harrelson. He's the man, and a great actor. Thank you for taking the time to pause the video and read this message. Enjoy the rest of the episode :)"
Thank you!
Thank you I literally couldn't pause it fast enough and it flashed so quickly I couldn't get the "precise seeking" to even show it 😅

Alright! …Welp see ya later!
Big Gulps huh?
My dad would. He hated the 1st movie, so no doubt he would hate the sequel if he were to ever see it.
"The resemblance is uncanny..." I agree, that short road trip scene was funny.
I also like that joke with the train and the camo. Those also got a chuckle out of me, but man is it not worth watching the whole thing again for them.
I stopped watching after 20 minutes
I thought the bit about the "rock candy that makes me dizzy" was kind of humorous. That's about it for what I even remember about it.
Reminds me of the story of franchise pictures, the production company behind battlefield earth lol.
I’m not aware of this but I am definitely bookmarking this for a rabbit hole session later
9:36 Dude... I bought those breath spray bottles just to do the spray it into the air gag at school. I just remembered.
Yeah to me it was more like a Will Farrell movie instead of like Dumb and Dumber
@@SandlapperSam Shit I would prefer Will Farrell.
I'm not sure what people expected from a Dumb and dumber 2. Let's be real, lol. Lightning in a bottle the first time. - Luke
The closest we'll ever get to a spiritual successor (and a lot of people would probably disagree) is Step Brothers. I wonder if the Farrelly brothers saw Rob Riggle in that movie and decided to cast him in dumb and dumber to because of it 🤔
They just waited too long imo, Jim and Jeff didn't have energy like they did when they were younger.
Malaysians probably didn't expect to have their tax dollars stolen

a good movie. duh, what else
I remember seeing this movie in theaters. watching this makes a lot of things make more sense. thank you!
In Atlanta one of their $500,000 cameras was stolen outside of an IHOP.
I can't believe Carrey did this. He must have thought with his comical genius he could just carry it? You just cant understand, these are PROFESSIONALS and they thought this script worked? I didn't even finish it. not even close to half way through, thoroughly disgusted.
Ok. I'll give you that. The banana gag gave me a laugh
This was in fact issued to every suburban household by 1996
Its weird how bad the movie is. Not only is the story and acting bad but I hate that comedy isn't grounded in any reality anymore. It's so over the top with CGI and stuff it just ruins everything.
The first movie was a product of its time...perfect!
The way the actual wolf of wall st immediately knew what was up has me dead rn
as a big fan of the original it blows my mind how TERRIBLE the sequel is, like a normal bad sequel would at least has some moments or anything memorable (Blues brothers 2000 with its soundtrack, Scary movie 2 has the butler and so on) but there's nothing good nor memorable in this.
sure it's not as awful as son of the mask...but i kind of wish it was since that one was at least bizarre, dumb and dumber two is just a plain bad movie where nothing works. best thing i can say is that at least doesn't ruin the first one (not for a lack of trying mind you) like a lot of modern sequels do
Hold on just a god dxmned minute…
Did you just suggest Scary Movie 2 was a bad sequel?? Its better than the first movie bruh and I don’t think you’ll find many ppl that disagree with me. Matter of fact, the 3rd one is funny af too. The 4th one is complete ass tho
Too has the Train Bit and Camo for me that still makes me laugh, but that's it. I agree it is way more crass and mean spirited to the point of just being boring by comparison.
@@poindextertunes Nah the 2nd one was boring and it didn't even had to be thar way since there are A LOT of hilarious scenes that for some reason were deleted

Prime Minister of Malaysia?! Okay, who's writing the meta Zoolander Dumb & Dumber crossover?
Cars totally ripped off the basic plot structure of it, no doubt. I'm a big Michael J Fox fan so I had to give it a shout.
See: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
I absolutely hated every part of it except the credits intro with the classic title music.
Everytime I hear “prime minister of Malaysia” I instantly think of zoolander
Saw it in theaters cuz I loved the first one so much. I was pissed lmao
It’s more like a looney tune than an adult comedy.
hmm based on one joke? might be a stretch
@@kidrobot. I said characterization. They obviously cut it in the first movie. But the second movie continued that maliciousness.
It isn't a deleted scene here in the USA. Maybe your country edited it or you watched some TV version. That joke is still great!
I think the best way to explain why the sequel wasn’t good is that in the first one only Harry and Lloyd acted like idiots. In the sequel everyone acts like an idiot.

I remember this movie being so quiet. Lack of an original score really changes the atmosphere, but the writing was really the main culprit.
It was a terrible film that destroyed 2 endearing characters, turning them into unlikeable scumbags.
I remember watching the 2nd in the cinema with my gf and not 1 person laughed at all. It was terrible.
Imagine having to sign a NDA to attend a birthday party 🤣🤣🤣
The 90s had great comedies where the world around the characters was very normal. A dumb guy in a dumb world doesn’t work. It’s all dumb.
That cartoon was the best sequel, and the true sequel was the best comedy I saw that year. My cousin and I laughed the same way we did when we watched the 1st part as kids
As bad as the sequel was, the old stinkaroo bit was hilarious. Lol
Ah man i forgot about that. Cant remember but seems there was a scene that was actually funny as hell and that must be it. Gotta look it up
Everyone's commenting about dumb n dumber but honestly the red granite story is the most fascinating part of this video
The sequel is complete trash.
Yep, just about. Also, the soundtrack for the first one cannot be topped. The aerial shots of a Midwestern road trip paired with 90s alt rock is why that movie was so good. It made us all want to rip it up across the country.
This comment is an insult to trash.
It's just like Star wars the sequels made us appreciate the prequels better
It had a couple of decent scenes.
The audience (We) probably all had a Principal Skinner moment at some point and said it is the children who are wrong.
But as Grandpa Simpson would say "its a little from column a and a little from column b"
Setting all of that aside and abstract from everything else. I want to return to the "Theres Something about Mary" universe. At least that's something that will rely heavily on its source material and have a latent responsibility to not repeat the original premise other than
......in this movie where they have a erstwhile duty to honor the original.
The prequel is one of my comfort watches. It is actually funny! But also it takes me back to that time in my life when I first saw it 💔
This was an excellent video, dude. And lol at all the people in the comments who can't get past how much the movie sucks and not how much like $50m in stolen money behind it sucking even more

You know you're in trouble when Jordan Belfort himself suspects that the money that funded both movies were stolen, after they sold the rights to his book
Film industry is perfect for money laundry. What about Formula 1, 50.000USD for a steering wheel?

@@BryanSteacy Nooooo, really? Ooooh, that's big news.

Seeing Pharrell having involvement in that Red Granite Party got me thinking that the soon-to-be-released biopic of his shouldn't have to rely on LEGO to carry it.
2:44 do people really consider people who enjoy "older" movies as "poor"?
Nah I think I was just (poorly) implying that studio executives probably don't see movies the same way we do. They value box office returns over everything else. The concept of a "comfort movie" probably wouldn't even resonate with people like that.
Austin Powers and the sequels are easily "at least in my opinion" some of the best examples of Comedy, and how to do sequels of a comedy movie..
The executives were probably right to not have too many callbacks to the first film. Callbacks in a comedy movie are usually the result of creative bankruptcy.
I actually really liked Dumb and Dumber To, very underrated.
