I'm so excited to see someone who teaches high school doing a video like this! It always upsets me that I can never find high school teachers, mostly just like K-3rd here on RUclips. I'm a senior in college and my license covers 7-12 for social studies.
this video was so amazing! I'm a junior in high school who wants to major in English education and teach high school and this was a great way to see what you all do on a daily!
Awesome video! I'm nearing the end of my first semeter of my first year of college. It's my goal to become a high school English teacher and your video really pushed my motivation! Thanks for so much inspiration!
I just realized how "Shh"-ing is integrated into a kid's brain as a normal thing. As I grew up I forgot that this was even a thing, if somebody shushes me currently I'd probably be inclined to punch them in the face.
Well, it's hard to figure out how to get a class to quiet down when I need to tell them something. Sometimes saying shh is the easiest and quickest option.
You're so funny! I'm so relieved to see that I'm not the only one with certain behaviors in the classroom. Sometimes I think I just unlucky with the groups of students I get (mostly boys, immature, trying to annoy me) lol You were fun with them and also kept them in check. Loved it!
I this was very amusing. I did an undergrad and a case of media and journalism that I work in the nonprofit field for a few years as a community educator teaching classes on going and healthy relationships. I really got to like working with students and it was a lot of fun. Now I'm back in school for my masters in public affairs and sociology, but I've really been thinking long and hard about being an English teacher. I've always been this in at writing, especially creative writing my poetry, but I'm not the strongest person with grammar it. I think what dissuade me the most is the job outlook and the hoops you have to jump through with certification when moving to a different state. But this looks very rewarding.
If you feel the call, it's worth looking into more. There are good days and bad days, but overall, I love my job! It is very rewarding to work with students on a daily basis.
I was looking for a video such as yours as I contemplate going for my teaching certification in English. Most teacher vlogs post the negative aspects of teaching, I just want to hear the honest truth to it all.
I just got accepted into college for Secondary English, so this was quite informative. But also- I noticed your from North Carolina and I am too. Just wanted to state that😂
This is really cool, thank you for sharing. I am working on a couple of prerequisites to be accepted into a teaching program for secondary English. I plan to start subbing in a few months and I am nervous and excited! Will subscribe to your channel for more videos!
Thanks! Subbing is pretty rough, but stand your ground and be real, and the students will like you. Make sure to leave the teacher a note for when they come back! I leave for the notes when I'm gone.
I teach 6th grade English. I've also taught 8th English and 4th all subjects. I am strongly considering moving to high school. Thanks for your video. It is very informative.
It comes with the job. He was doing it to get a reaction from me, so the best way I could respond was to just say stop it. But I don't always have that much patience, haha.
booked4theweek I️ get it. I️ teach English in a public HS. I️ still don’t have any patience in me. Or maybe I’ve become worn down over the years. Toughest job ever.
Loved the "squeaky" student and the "oh, we have to write this down?" students lol....you kept it real lol. It seems you work in a wonderful environment. Question: Do you have any particular routine you use to introduce vocabulary or when writing assignments are due, etc.? For example, EVERY Monday you introduce vocabulary prior to the daily lesson, homework for the weeks will ALWAYS include defining the words and composing original sentences-due EVERY Wednesday. A quick quiz on vocabulary will be EVERY Wednesday....most writing assignments are typically due by Thursday.....such as that? I had a wonderful English teacher in high school who had a routine/pattern of basic things we could expect in addition to whatever new topic/content he would be teaching for the day/week. I was a sophomore, so it helped me learn self discipline (I quickly figured out that I better start on the vocabulary assignment Monday.) I have considered incorporating this into my junior and senior English classes, but I have been hesitant...I don't know if it would be an effective strategy for upperclassmen. I have 47 minutes from bell to bell, all 8 periods, with my students; time is always against us lol. I am new to teaching English. Yay! I am sooo happy I have multiple endorsements for my license....note the sarcasm.) I have felt some of my strategies just don't work well with my English students. I am researching ways to establish a routine that is effective and educational. Any suggestions or tips would be so helpful. 😁
Well I have a system for my bell ringers which I call do nows. Musical Monday is for finding figurative language in current songs. Terminology Tuesday is for learning a new term that we will use in class, like theme or mood. Workout Wednesday is when we do EOC or NCFE test practice. Throwback Thursday is when we review something the kids SHOULD already know about grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Focus Friday is when we do some fun riddles that they get into teams to answer. I do kinda keep it old school when it comes to assessments. Most of my vocabulary gets introduced on Mondays and quizzed on Fridays. For my seniors that have to do a graduation project, I introduce a topic that we'll work on all week, like thesis statements or conclusions, on Mondays. We practice all throughout the week. Then on Fridays, they have a mini quiz on that topic. My seniors said this helps them to focus a lot! I hope that answered your question.
Thank you! I was just accepted into an English Ed Master's program in NYC, and am very curious what it's actually like to be a teacher. So this video was very helpful!
Wow, I was just searching for an English Teacher vlogger! I´m a teacher too, but I teach in Brazil in a private school. I really enjoyed your video! You have a new subscriber =D
It's so weird to think that after this semester I'm done with my English classes. I low-key wish I could take my beginning comp over again. I loved that class and the teacher, he was one of my favorite teacher I ever had.
I want to be a teacher but at the high school levels my biggest problem is knowing that the kids don’t want to be there hence not taking my classes seriously
Hello, I stumbled upon your video. I was looking for videos showcases the day and the life of an English teacher and I am glad I watched yours. I was surprised to know that you taught 1st hour English IV Honors to seniors. It is ironic because I just graduated high school in may and also took that course. I made an A the first semester but slacked off the second and made a B. I had that terrible senior-itus. I loved English Honors classes, I wish I had taken AP English Lit or Lang. But I don't regret taking honors English, it gave me an intellectucally stimulating environment. I learned much through our many Socratic circles and book discussions. I have decided to become an English teacher because I love school. It is also cool that while you were teaching August of last semester I was in school:) :). Well, I just want to thank you, for that awesome video you made. I also had a question, some teachers before that start teaching go into a masters program, would you recommend that? Like a bachelor's in English, masters of Arts in English, and then go into teaching.
It really depends on where you are teaching. I'm in NC, and we do not get paid for having a Master's degree. However, some people still get them because they like having that knowledge. I would not recommend getting a Master's degree while you are doing your first three years of teaching because those are the struggle years. If you are interested in getting it, I would recommend after your first three years or before you begin teaching.
Hi! Oh my, I’m so glad I’ve found you! It’s always so interesting to see the behind the scenes of a high school teacher! I’ve got a channel where I vlog my daily experiences in second grade so it’s refreshing to see a different a different lens! Just subscribed-looking forward to watching your videos! ❤️
I am an English Teacher for Fresno Unified i like how you showed what you were teaching i hate Grading Papers Though ugghhhh lol i will continue to watch your videos.
Haha, how many times did your students say "wait... we have to write that?" I'm almost graduating University from Secondary HPE/History and I would never be able to count how many time i'll hear that phrase in my career!
It's constant! I have some tips for this though. When I do note powerpoints and such, I will put what I want them to write in BOLD or UNDERLINED. Then I just tell them to write what it says in bold or underlined. It helps a lot! They learn that eventaully.
Thank you for this video. I think I’m going to stick with my projected career path. I second guessed myself for a minute and thought I’d rather be a HS English Teacher than a Special Education Teacher.
booked4theweek you're a literal Saint. I don't know how on earth you do it. High school is tough when you're a student...I can't imagine what it's like for a teacher.
Your video is the best most relevant teaching video I've ever seen on youtube. YOu've got video-making skills! Can't wait for another one of your videos.
The beginning of the semester is always a rough time as you learn your students' names and faces. It takes me longer then I would like... and you get embarrassed as you call people the wrong things. Eventually, you get it though!
"Zombies eat brains, you're safe" XD IM SOOOO happy I found this! This is awesome! I am planing to be a high school English teacher when I grow up! And I'll try to teach in Canada or Australia cause yeah I just like those country's XD
Props to you for teaching high school! I couldn't teach. That student who was squeaking I would've gone off 😹 but that's why I'm not a going for a teacher.
great video. I just have a beauty tip. It looks like your hair color is box dye. I would recommend going to a hair dresser to get it colored, maybe a neuance lighter to soften it up, or draw up your eyebrows a tad darker with some eyebrow shadow (they are way to light in combination with your hair color). I didn't mean that to critisise, because you look cute, I just wanted to improve
Nope, it's not a box color. I get it professionally done. However, this was on top of the old color. My hair is vivid red now. You can see it in newer videos.
I'm so excited to see someone who teaches high school doing a video like this! It always upsets me that I can never find high school teachers, mostly just like K-3rd here on RUclips. I'm a senior in college and my license covers 7-12 for social studies.
Yay! I do wish there were more high school teachers on here. That's one reason I started this channel.
Sorry I'm just now seeing this! I will probably do some videos on classroom managaement and disiplice this year, so stay tuned for those.
I know I wish there here more secondary teacher videos:(
Can u explain to me how the teaching licenses for grade levels work? (I’m a soon to be freshman in college)
I would love her as a teacher
i love that quote on your wall about not finding yourself but rather creating yourself , i need some inspirational quotes in class :)
this video was so amazing! I'm a junior in high school who wants to major in English education and teach high school and this was a great way to see what you all do on a daily!
Thank you! Some days it's wild and other days it's calm!
It's cool to see a teacher that vlogs! Great job!

I'm currently studying to be an Early Childhood educator but I'm thinking of changing it it AYA English, this was super helpful!
Hi there! I'm so glad I found you. I am also a high school English teacher. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos :)
This was very informative. Great job!
Thanks!

I love that she's an LGBT+ advocate! Yes Queen!
I am also an English teacher 👩🏫
You have a great personality
I look forward to more videos!
Thank you! Sometimes I worry I'm a little too wild, but at least the kids are interested.
I just got accepted into college for Secondary English, so this was quite informative. But also- I noticed your from North Carolina and I am too. Just wanted to state that😂
Cool beans! Congrats on your college acceptance.
I'm in NC as well and doing an English degree any tips for getting licensed without going to school for an English secondary program
Love your attitude and teaching methods 👍🏻
Awh, thank you! I'm trying to keep it positive!
So excited to watch this bc I'm looking to teach high school English in NC and about to apply to the program ! Thanks a lot!
Yay! I hope all goes well for you.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who makes spelling mistakes. My Grade 7's are very quick to point it out, if I do.
YES! Mine always point them out.
hey there! glad i found your channel. i am graduating in December and will be teaching high school English. nervous but also very excited!
It's good to be nervous! It means that you care about how you will do. I'm sure that you will be great!
video greatly appreciated, thank you!

I would've set that boy straight with the squeaky shoes right away! You have more patience than me.

booked4theweek Yes, it did. I appreciate you sharing with me.....just a few more weeks left for me to test out a new system!
booked4theweek you should do a video where you can elaborate on these routines...🙏🏼
Sure! I can do that.
I posted the video about bell ringers by the way!
Thank you! I was just accepted into an English Ed Master's program in NYC, and am very curious what it's actually like to be a teacher. So this video was very helpful!

I would love to have you as my Senior English teacher! I've always wanted to go to college and be a teacher, but everyone tells me its not worth it
i really like the video but you remind me of my 11th grade science teacher who gave out homework on the weekend

Another High school teacher, yay! Awesome.
Yay! I wish there were more of us on here!
*student is lassoing his neighbor* 😂😂
ROFL! It's a struggle.
booked4theweek you're a literal Saint. I don't know how on earth you do it. High school is tough when you're a student...I can't imagine what it's like for a teacher.
LOVE the App State sticker on your white board!
Thank you! It's actually an outdoor flag, but it works for me as a bulletin board decor piece.
Plz show how u do grading
Can you do a Friday too? This was informative!
Thank you! And sure, that's a good idea. I will try and film one once school starts back.
Your video is the best most relevant teaching video I've ever seen on youtube. YOu've got video-making skills! Can't wait for another one of your videos.
New subscriber! Homeschool mom here.
Oh my with the squeaking. LOL. Thanks for posting this!
That student kept looking at me while he did it too! I was trying to ignore him, but I couldn't take it anymore, haha.
I was thinking you were trying to ignore him in the beginning. LOL! Kids...
Hi, thank you for sharing this. But do you have problems matching these students names and faces at the beginning of every semester?
The beginning of the semester is always a rough time as you learn your students' names and faces. It takes me longer then I would like... and you get embarrassed as you call people the wrong things. Eventually, you get it though!
South Carolina or Alabama?
Neither!
I noticed the Myrtle Beach sticker and the blocked schedule and I'm wondering if we live close to each other!!
Good eye! I'm in NC.
Can Mr Nqook do videos like this too i'd love tha

Great minds think alike. :)
I like the video but it was WAY too quiet, even when my computer was at 100
Sorry! I know that my audio has some issues. I record on my laptop, but I'm trying to work on it.
Props to you for teaching high school! I couldn't teach. That student who was squeaking I would've gone off 😹 but that's why I'm not a going for a teacher.
Wow I'm a freshman and I know that the main idea has characters in it xD I'm so smart...
Anyone a freshman here or am I the only really weird freshman like...Always

It's so weird how disrespectful your students sound towards you. This is coming from someone in an Irish public school
Man, I miss your sass lol
Awh miss you too!
Lol no kids in your class curse? I’m a senior in high school, and my AP literature class is full of kids with vulgar language
English teachers are always young and beautiful....lolz. yeah... i teach Englisg. 😆
A bitter truth... we are never taken seriously.

Lol this makes me miss high school lol I do prefer politics to love too! Bla!!!
I liked her until she told a student they couldn’t go to the bathroom...that annoys me so much. :(
We had about 5 to 10 more minutes in the lesson, and then anyone can go! I pretty much let my students police themselves on bathroom.
Is that an LGBT ally sticker? ♥️💕
Courtney Hammett Always! I host our school’s GSA, so those stickers are very important!
breakfast at Mc donalds??? teaching salary is that low???
