    I’m so glad you enjoyed it and also managed to get a copy with sprayed edges, it’s beautiful isn’t it. I found it a much more satisfying read than Small Pleasures. Thank you for sharing your experiences of being an introvert, I resonate with so much of what you’ve said, I’m much more a one to one person as groups of people drain me. As an introvert you do amazingly well making these videos and putting yourself out there but am so glad you do as they are a gift to us readers😊

    You're such a beautiful soul Eric. Your love of literature give's me hope for reading as a whole moving into the Ai age.

    When I was much younger I hated that I was a reserved person and found small talk difficult, I thought it was a personal failing rather than a personality trait. I always used to get asked 'why are you so quiet' which immediately made me feel exposed and I retreated more into myself or became defensive and would retort with 'I don't know, why are you so loud' which probably wasn't the best way to make friends. I'm much more comfortable with my introversion these days and life is much easier plus as you get older I think you care less what your peers think and actually realise no one cares as much as you think they do

    Fellow socially awkward introvert here! And I'm married to another one. We are not the life of the party; in fact, we're probably skipping the party! Thanks for the review- the book sounds really good!

    I'm so glad to hear your thoughts on this. Like you I was so disappointed by the ending of her last novel that it really made me hesitate to pick this up.

    This was such a beautiful video Eric. Truly one of my favorites. I find it incredibly difficult to go to events where I know no one, even book events that I am very interested in, and struggle with small talk. I already had this book on my reading list but now I am very eager to read it when it is published in the US (and so relieved that it has a satisfying ending). Very very grateful to you for this one.

    Sounds like a book that I’d really enjoy. 🙂
    Definitely a very introverted introvert myself and, sensitive to the environment (crowds, noise, conflict …)

    I understand, I am an introvert but most people don't believe me. when I was 16 in college socially struggling I copied successful behavior. I learned how to do it. I call myself an outgoing introvert. but, more years than I am willing to admit to, I am very quiet in crowds.

    I am definitely looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately it’s not released in the US until November 12th. And I love the idea of reading the book Quiet as a companion piece to this book.

    I’m so excited Clare Chambers has a new book coming, this sounds fantastic. She’s such a gentle writer.
    It’s wonderful that although you consider yourself shy you’re able to speak so easily in front of thousands of people. My kiddo is also shy (as am I), but they have their own RUclips channel with almost 700 subscribers. It’s really helped them come out of their shell and feel more confident in themselves, after years of bullying. (You can imagine how thrilled I was when they told me they wanted to start it 😂, but it’s been so, so good for them. Since starting their channel they’ve also become more willing to talk with people they don’t know well. Much as we lament the amount of time kids spend online, for some, talking to a camera or typing on a keyboard provides more opportunity to socialize than they’d likely have otherwise.

    Thank you Eric, I listened to the audio preview of Shy Creatures yesterday and really enjoyed it. I was going to order the book from the library but I'm going to treat myself to a copy with the sprayed edges if I can find one, absolutely beautiful 😍Your thoughts and shared experiences of being a shy and sensitive, thoughtful person really resonate with me, I think often we are an under appreciated bunch, and it is so lovely like you say, when a stranger may reach out when we are feeling awkward and alone. The book 'Quiet; The Power of Introverts in A World where People Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain, is still neglected on my shelf, I might dust that off and read it as a companion piece to Shy Creatures this Autumn.

    Yes, I might agree that a shy person imagines that the norm is extrovertism; and I'd agree too that there is a difference between shyness and hermitlike behavior. To my mind, the review I've just heard expresses the idea that if there are so many decent shy people then perhaps they are the norm and the extroverts stand out through being boisterous? It sounds a marvellous book well deserving of a rave review. Thx

      @EricKarlAnderson  3 дня назад +1

      Thanks, I don’t think extroverts are the norm but there’s often the dynamic where extroverts will wonder why introverts aren’t more talkative. But the reverse doesn’t happen.
