Hi. Thanks for your video. I have a 2019 Mazda 3, (which is a 7th Generation vehicle), and has a different infotainment center. I have the SD card, (BDGF 66 EZ1), and traveled at least 63 miles or more. I downloaded the proper Mazda Update Toolbox, specifically for the "7th Generation" vehicles. I wanted for the first time, to get the most updated map. I followed the onscreen instructions, which prompted me to insert the SD card, and I did that. However, what instantly came up, (after inserting the SD card), was Windows File Explorer, which showed, on the left, what drive the SD card was located in my computer, and then on the right area .... it showed the 2 main folders that are on the SD card. Nothing else happens. So, I'm wondering if you have any knowledge of this issue, specifically for the SD card for the 2019 Mazda 3, or if you have a solution? I have contacted Mazda several times... and they have absolutely no support to help me. The SD card does work great in my vehicle. But, when it comes to try and go thru the map update process, it fails .... after the Mazda Update Toolbox prompts me to insert the SD card. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much. -- Tom
Hi Tom, What's likely happening is you have an AutoPlay option for removable drives set to "View Files." You can change this in Settings/Devices/AutoPlay. This will stop Windows Explorer from opening up and showing you the contents of the SD card. Change "Removable Drive" option to "Ask me every time." This will make it so that when you pop in the SD card when prompted by the toolbox, your PC will then ask you what you want to do with it. You can then click cancel or there may be an option for it to play with an associated program or something like that. I'm not entirely sure, but that is where you can start. Also, can you provide me with a link to where you downloaded the 7th gen toolbox? I don't seem to have that option on the mazda.ca site. Are you in the US or Canada? Mazda USA and Mazda Canada are very different.
The 2011 CX-9 uses internal software and a CD-ROM to update. You might be out of luck, but try seeing if your local Mazda dealer can order you the most recent CD-ROM. It will likely be out of date, but at least you can get as up to date as possible with it.
I just bought a 2015 CX-9 GT. I'd like to update the maps. When I go to Mazda connect It only shows a page to look up compatible smartphones. I don't get access to the Navigation page. I do if i select a 2016 CX-9 GT.... the 2015 Navigation manual says get updates from Tom Tom. Any pointers? Thanks
This tutorial is for Mazdas equipped with the Mazda Connect Infotainment System. The 2015 CX-9 is not equipped unfortunately, It has older technology and a tom tom navigation system. You'll need to order a CD-ROM to update the nav system in your SUV. You can hopefully get this CD-ROM through your local Mazda dealer, if there are some still available.
What makes you say that? Are you possibly referring to a CX-5 model outside of Canada? The Canadian 2016 CX-5 is equipped with the Mazda Connect Infotainment System and maps SD card. I've updated for this model personally as a previous owner.
At 3:48 of the video, you will see "map version" on the left side of the Mazda popup screen...touch "map version" and it should reveal the current date of the map data on your SD card...hope this helps.
Not sure about the lack of certificate... but it's a legit site from Mazda. The style of it hasn't been updated in years though, it doesn't match up with the current Mazda branding. Which is why it may look a little off.
I just received the SD Card for my 2018 Mazda CX-9 and while trying to make a ‘backup’ per the Mazda instructions, the following message appears: “Do you want to scan and fix Secure Storage Device (G)? There might be a problem with some files on this device. This can happen if you remove the device before all files have been written to it. > Scan and fix (recommended) > Continue without scanning NOT SURE HOW TO PROCEED. Do not want to install if unable to perform a backup. Please recommend a solution.
I would just continue without scanning as you wont want to have your PC install or fix any of the files on the card. But that is just my recommendation, and I am in no way a professional computer IT guy :S Really what you should do is contact the service department of your local Mazda dealer or the dealer you purchased the car from.
I have a 2016 Mazda cx-5 . I tried the update process step by step .I registered got the email confirmation .On the home page "map version" it states , Version: 2014 Q2 under that it states, Latest available: January 2020 . under my name and vin it shows the space used/total space. Under that it said map version. I click on that and it said to the left . Version 2014 Q2...Latest available: January 2020 . Does this mean I need to update? Also if so it looks like I have to buy it for a single update $87.70 and for 3 year map update $135.75. Also my space on disc is used 4811MB and total space is 7572 MB . The file size to download is 5750.94. Will this download take off what I don't need on the old version or will it delete old version and add new version? Plus I don't want to buy the update if I don't need it.
The download will replace your current version as it is an update. From what you've said, you currently have version 2014 Q2? If you update to the January 2020, that is over 5 years of changes to map data. Depending on where you live, that may be beneficial if there has been significant changes to the road system. I can't say whether or not you need it though, that is a choice you'll have to make. With the advancements of mobile phones and google maps, etc. I would recommend you spend the cash on getting Apple CarPlay / Android Auto installed. That way you can use those features to use google maps on your infotainment screen and still have a working Mazda Navigation program as well for backup. Your 2016 CX-5 is compatible for the CarPlay/Auto upgrade. This is what I would do if I was in your shoes, but that's just my opinion though.
A demio is a Mazda2, but Mazda hasn't sold the Mazda2 hasn't been sold in North America brand new since 2013 I believe. So it never had an infotainment screen. You'll have to use a Mazda website from a country that sold the Mazda2/Demio for the 2015 model year in order to update the maps. But it will likely only provide an update for that specific region.
I have a 2013 Mazdaspeed3 tech package. I tried to follow the video but it takes me to a different section with phone pairing but no navigation tab. What do I do?
Hi Clarence. This is for Mazda's equipped with the Mazda Connect Infotainment System for model years 2014 and up. For your 2013 Mazdaspeed3, I believe you require a CD-ROM to update your maps, which might be out of date anyway as it is a much older system. You'll have to go to your local Mazda Dealer and see if they have one of the older CD-ROMs in stock or if they can order you one. Hope that helps.

I unistalled and reinstalled and that didnt work. Also when I go to the owners website I noticed that when you have to select your car model mine its not in there?
Hello Nicolas. The 2019 Mazda3 is not included for this method as it uses a new version of Mazda Connect. The 2019 Mazda3 is a brand new car and the navigation system is as up to date as it can get at this point. I don't believe there is an update available for it.
Park Mazda thank you so much for your reply!! I was just following that because that’s what they told me in the dealership when I got it. But in the future when there’s an update should I follow this same process or it will be different?
@@nvillalba91 I'm assuming it will be the same process but don't quote me on that! The 2019 Mazda3 is part of the 7th gen Mazda Lineup with a different Mazda Connect system, so the process may be similar in how the SD card is updated, but you may have to follow different links or directions. I'll be sure to get a video up when we get the info!
Hi Nicolas. You will see in the comments (regarding the SD card), that I just posted a question for Park Mazda. Yes, I have a 2019 Mazda 3, which is 7th Generation, as yours is of course. In my comment to Park Mazda.... I did explain that I do go to the area of the Mazda website, to download the specific "Mazda Update Toolbox" for the "7th Generation" vehicles. Before that, I was downloading the toolbox that is for the "6th Generation" vehicles, which is of course what Park Mazda was showing in their youtube video. So, after I do download the correct Mazda Update Toolbox, it will "not" prompt you for which type of Mazda you have. Anyway, after downloading the "Mazda Update Toolbox" i wait for the window to come up, that tells me to "insert the SD card". I do that, and all what comes up next is my "Windows File Explorer", which shows the drive location of the SD card on the left, and then on the right ... it just shows the two main folders contained on the SD card. So, even though I'm apparently downloading the "correct" Mazda Update Toolbox, for the "7th Generation vehicle", which you and I both have, their program is not working properly ... after inserting the SD card into my computer. I have two other laptops, and I download the same Mazda Update Toolbox program, and the exact same thing happens.... the program just takes me immediately to "Windows File Explorer" and displays the drive the the SD card is located in. I have actually contacted Mazda headquarters, and they could not offer any support whatsoever. So, I am hoping the Park Mazda will have some information (for you and myself), as to how we update our SD cards? Also, if the SD card is already "up to date", you would think the Mazda Update Toolbox, would indicate that on the screen, but it doesn't. And, it is supposed to show my VIN # also, on the Mazda Toolbox Update window that first comes up .... and that area of the popup window is blank, and does not display any of my car information. Ok.... hope we find out soon, what the heck is going on.... with the Mazda Update Toolbox program, which is specific for the "7th Generation" vehicles.
Not sure about Amazon, but it will work with a NAV card from Mazda. You cannot simply use a generic SD card from Amazon, if that is what you mean. If you're purchasing a NAV card from amazon and it says it's for a Mazda, we can't guarantee that will work either.
The instructions say to click on Mazda Connect, and I can find no such tab on the web site. Is the current web page changed, or where do I find Mazda Connect after clicking on the Owners tab.
Hi Mae. I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to, but if you give our service department a call and speak with Ross, he'll be happy to help you out!
I will call thanks 🙏 but the infotainment is rebooting when it’s cold out for at least 20 to 30 minutes every morning in the winter spring and fall. What could be the cause?
Hi Park Mazda, I have a Mazda CX-5, 2016. I did follow up as you showed in the clip. my current map version is for 2014. It shows me everything in my vehicle is updated however there is an updated map (Dec 2018) and when I want to download it, it asks me redeem code or payment ( it is not free for me ) .But in your clip it is free, what should I do?
Hi Emad, the update service is free for 3 years, starting when the vehicle has traveled 100km (63 miles) with the SD card inserted. If you are being told to pay for the update, then unfortunately your vehicle has likely passed the 3 year mark.
@@ParkMazdaAB Thank you Park, unfortunately, nobody from Mazda (neither sale person nor maintenance team) informed me about this, during the first 3 years
Yo please tell me why mine stopped working once I took it out😫I was troubleshooting the infotainment system constantly restarting so I popped it out and now it doesn’t work even though I put it back and restarted the car
Should be able to just pop it back in. You may need to visit a Mazda service center. Sounds like you have more of an issue than the SD card not working if you were having infotainment issues beforehand.
This restarting thing just happened to ours. Seems its all over the internet. Low and behold right at 36,500 miles. I removed the Nav card and that seems to fix it. I'll try the update maps on the card to see if that works. But yeah it's gone bonkers. Drops calls, restarts, changes radio stations, etc. Try doing the factory reset. That seemed to stop the constant rebooting. It did one radio flip on us after the reset, then I took the SD card out. Definite software glitch from what I can tell with the Nav SD card so far.
You have complimentary map updates for 3 years from the time you purchased the car (if you bought it new). So update as much as you want during that time. After the 3 years there is a fee, so it's up to you at that point.
I am unaware of having to pay anything in order to update the maps. Are you in Canada or USA? Did your Mazda come with Navigation already installed when you picked it up? Your dealer's service department may be trying to charge you for it, and update it for you in order to make $$$. You should be able to do this for free from the comfort of your own home, provided you have a computer and a slot for your SD card.
Giovanni, I neglected to mention that the update service is free for 3 years, starting when the vehicle has traveled 100km (63 miles) with the SD card inserted. If you have passed the 3 year mark, then unfortunately Mazda will charge you for it. However, you can pay for this online, you do not have to have the dealership do this and charge you addtional shop time.
Hello Abdullah, sounds like you may need to visit your local Mazda dealer to get the correct NAV CD. You may be trying to use one that is out of date. Good luck.
The CX-7 has a completely different navigation system than the one in this video. It requires a CD-ROM to update the NAV. Sadly, the most up to date CD-ROM for the CX-7 is from 2013 I believe, I could be wrong. You can still get this CD from any Mazda parts department, but it won't be fully up to date as of 2019 unfortunately.
No I don't believe you can. As I mentioned, you can only do this for 2014 Mazda vehicles and up that have the Mazda Connect Infotainment System. You might have to get a CD-ROM for the older system in the BT-50. And even then, the maps for that year are likely capped out at the 2013 update, as Mazda began to focus on the software for the Mazda Connect. If you maps are out of date previous to 2013, you may still be able to find a CD-ROM or order one from your local Mazda dealer.
I haven't come across this problem before. What year/model of Mazda is the NAV card from? I recommend that you contact your dealer's service department. You may be right in that an update to the Mazda Connect firmware might be required.
@@cheesehead6710 So you don't know what year or model of Mazda you are driving? If the update is saying that the latest available update is DEC 2018 but the current version is Q4 2013, then you should be able to update it. Not sure how else to help other than that. You should head to a Mazda service department and see if they can take a look at your NAV card for you.
@@cheesehead6710 Sorry, when I asked your year/model, you said you didn't know and that you bought the car used. Just a little confused. Anyway, like I said before, I would highly recommend going to a Mazda service department to have them diagnose your SD card. If it says the current version is from 2013, but it is a 2016 car and the latest update is from 2018, then you should be able to update the SD card, and there may be something wrong with it. You could also try uninstalling the ToolBox and reinstalling it and trying again. Try that first before you go to a dealer.
mazda toolbox says "please insert your sd card" even tho my sd card is already inserted, and my sd card doent have the logo of mazda on it. can you help me?
@@tjalonzo4394 Well, I thought it might be your computer not reading the SD card properly, but if it shows up in Explorer and the toolbox doesn't read it, then you might have a problem. Just make sure that you are only inserting the card in your PC when the toolbox prompts you do, not before hand. That is the only thing I would say to try next. Other than that, you can try on a different computer, or you'll have to make an appointment with your local mazda service department to have them take a look. Hope that helps.
Honestly I have no idea. This update is from a North American link, and I'm assuming it would update the North American maps. You may have to find something through Mazda UAE to update maps for the middle east.
Hi Marissa, just want to clarify a couple things first if you don't mind. You said your PC is not detecting your card, yet you said the card showed up on the G drive? Also, I just want to make sure you inserted the SD Card when the program tells you to, not before hand, correct?
Hi Marissa, forgive me for the delay in reply. If you're still having trouble, I recommend restarting your PC, testing out a different SD card to see if your computer can read it. If it can, there may be an issue with your PC reading your NAV SD card. If your PC is unable to read the other SD card, then there may be an issue with your PC not reading SD Cards properly. If it can read one SD card, but not the NAV card, I would consult the dealer you purchased your Mazda from and bring your vehicle in for the service department to take a look at the card and see what the issue is. Hope this helps!

thank you for this video .. please I need to ask about If I am loosing the license file in SD card how to restore ....
I have CX-5 2017. I did what you showed. Everything was OK except it's asking money to update the map. It shows that 2020 -Jan maps are available but I have to pay for that. I do not understand why? Well, I do understand that Mazda wants to make some money but I do not think it's fair. I never updated the software and now when I thought I need it, I am NOT getting free update..........!!! Not fair..........
You are only eligible to update your maps for free within 3 years of owning the vehicle. The nav card recognizes when it was activated and has a 3 year expiration on the free update.

Can someone tell me where the Sd card is located on the 2011 Mazda CX-9? I can’t find it anywhere it’s driving me crazy
@@ParkMazdaAB So it's not a CD but a SD card and it has its own update software on the SD card.
Can I use Apple car play and Mazda navigation ?
the SD GPS card can update to another countries maps??
this option is not for Mazda CX5 - 2016 model
What makes you say that? Are you possibly referring to a CX-5 model outside of Canada? The Canadian 2016 CX-5 is equipped with the Mazda Connect Infotainment System and maps SD card. I've updated for this model personally as a previous owner.
CX3 2016 updated in Aug 2022. Gracias...
Great tutorial. Thanks!
I just purchased a 2016 CX_5. How do I find out what date the maps currently installed are?
At 3:48 of the video, you will see "map version" on the left side of the Mazda popup screen...touch "map version" and it should reveal the current date of the map data on your SD card...hope this helps.
The site looks dodgy, why is there is no certificate?
Not sure about the lack of certificate... but it's a legit site from Mazda. The style of it hasn't been updated in years though, it doesn't match up with the current Mazda branding. Which is why it may look a little off.
what's the location of the backup?
Nice vid but I have cx5 from 2014 and is it possible to change the map location like mine is for Canada but I live in Africa senegal?
Not sure, as this only applies to the Mazda Connect infotainment. The 2014 CX-5 used tom tom if I recall.
I just received the SD Card for my 2018 Mazda CX-9 and while trying to make a ‘backup’ per the Mazda instructions, the following message appears:
“Do you want to scan and fix Secure Storage Device (G)?
There might be a problem with some files on this device. This can happen if you remove the device before all files have been written to it.
> Scan and fix (recommended)
> Continue without scanning
NOT SURE HOW TO PROCEED.
Hello my friend :)
I have a mazda demio 2015 1.5 diesel but there is no option for demio. Can i choose something else?
A demio is a Mazda2, but Mazda hasn't sold the Mazda2 hasn't been sold in North America brand new since 2013 I believe. So it never had an infotainment screen. You'll have to use a Mazda website from a country that sold the Mazda2/Demio for the 2015 model year in order to update the maps. But it will likely only provide an update for that specific region.
hi there. can anyone show me the file tree.. ie when u put sd card into computer it shows where the files are etc. anyone help?
Do I have to buy the Mazda SD card or can you use any?
You need a Mazda GPS SD Card.
Hello, I got a 2019 Mazda3 sport gt last week. I am trying to update the SD card but I cant do it even though I am following your video. I download and install Mazda toolbox and in the step of inserting the SD card it stays there when I put the SD card into my computer. Could you help me with that?
Park Mazda thanks for that!! I’m looking forward for that video
I have the base model mazda cx3 would it work if I buy a navigation sd card from Amazon
Not sure about Amazon, but it will work with a NAV card from Mazda. You cannot simply use a generic SD card from Amazon, if that is what you mean. If you're purchasing a NAV card from amazon and it says it's for a Mazda, we can't guarantee that will work either.
112$ canadian for a 1 time renewal because my 2017 map is expired wow. Thats kind of lame....
I tried to update my navigation SD card and still saids 2019 and not 2020 maps. And everyone on Amazon is asking me the question about it.
Did you purchase a NAV card off amazon? Was it a 3rd party card or did you somehow manage to get a OEM card?
can i use my chromebook to download the maps update?
I don't see why not. As long as you're able to plug the SD card into your chromebook, you should be able to install the update.
The instructions say to click on Mazda Connect, and I can find no such tab on the web site. Is the current web page changed, or where do I find Mazda Connect after clicking on the Owners tab.

Yes, it has to be a Mazda navigation card. Either original with the car, or purchased separately from a Mazda dealer.
I have a 2014 Mazda 6. Will a card from a 2013 Mazda 3 work?
Hi Keith. No, unfortunately it will not work as the NAV card is specific to that car once it drives over a certain distance, I believe it is 100 km.
Thanks So much. 🙏🙏
Chris Schneider yeah I just left it out and now it’s been fine since fuck it I got an iPhone lmao
hi, what to do if it says insufficient space to update the map?
Might need to purchase a new card or reformat the one you have via a mazda service department. I've never come across that issue before unfortunately.
I got this same message!! Can you update via a tablet?
how often should i update the maps?
i have a 2018 Mazda6 gt
You have complimentary map updates for 3 years from the time you purchased the car (if you bought it new). So update as much as you want during that time. After the 3 years there is a fee, so it's up to you at that point.
I was told by Mazda even though my car is leased and under warranty service dept said I have to pay for the update through the site? Is this true?
What is the update fee?

@@adonispoullos1881 No, you need a navigation SD Card from Mazda in order to update the maps for your navigation.
Can you do this for 2013 BT-50?
No I don't believe you can. As I mentioned, you can only do this for 2014 Mazda vehicles and up that have the Mazda Connect Infotainment System. You might have to get a CD-ROM for the older system in the BT-50. And even then, the maps for that year are likely capped out at the 2013 update, as Mazda began to focus on the software for the Mazda Connect. If you maps are out of date previous to 2013, you may still be able to find a CD-ROM or order one from your local Mazda dealer.

@@ParkMazdaABcorrect, thanks for the reply. I basically followed your RUclips video step by step.
