hey! it’s the girl from the rat with the beauty blender. id just like state i very rarely picked him up by the scruff because it can be harmful but my vet told me i may want to do it in situations like that because neptune had a habit of getting violent when things were taken and trying to bite. it was never longer than 2 seconds and very very very rarely. maybe 2 or 3 times his whole life
i used to have a rat (yes only one unfortunately, i was a kid and my parents were ill-informed and i feel bad about it to this day) and i miss it soooo much but i developed such a severe allergy to them while i had her that i couldn't even touch her towards the end of her life and i will be sad about it forever :(

At 3:13 when you commented about the little simiese cutie, me and my boyfriend just got rats and one of them looks just like that. Dumbo ears, the smudge on the nose and the darker shading on the back. When we got her she was all orangey colored but faded to look just like that. So cute.

I get my first two rats tomorrow! (bought them from a local, ethical breeder, just have to pick them up) I'm so excited to bring my girls home! One's black and white (Daisy), and the other's Dark grey (Emma). I completely set up their cage (apart from putting out water/food, of course) days ago, and I've been moving stuff around every day since, trying to get it perfect. I also really overestimated how much space the stuff I bought would fill, and while they do have a decent amount of stuff to climb on and they've got stuff to catch them if they fall from some of the higher up things, but there's still too much empty space to be fully done.

Bob the Builder I’m going off of memory, but I’m almost positive carefresh is safe, as long as it isn’t scented. (Never get any scented bedding/litter, etc, even for other animals such as cats). You could maybe search the internet (google) for safe rat bedding/unsafe rat bedding, which is what I did when I was trying to figure out what kind I wanted to use. It’s been so long now though that I don’t remember everything I read. I also feel like The Rat Guru on RUclips made a video on this topic.

About letting rats outside: I have a garden, and the first thing I train my rats to do outside is how to get back to the house from the garden. That way, if they want to flee and hide themselves, they go straight to the house because they know that this way is safe and there are bushes along the way that are distant enough and not too leafy so that I can watch my rats move around. If I go outside somewhere else, I take my backpack and put it on the floor so that by reflex my rats run to it if they get spooked instead of running away. I always put them on the ground next to my backpack first because it's key that they know how to get back to it. When exploring, rats often go back on their tracks to make sure that know where there safe place is. You must not disturb their path if want them to be able to go back to where you want them to go. I don't think that it is more dangerous to take a rat outside than a cat or a rabbit like some do. You need to know your animal and know how it reacts to being spooked, so that you can predict where it will try to run if anything happens. That takes time but it can be great. Also, make sure that you have no predatory birds in your area, no cats, and no dogs. That is important.

Since 2003 I've had 9 lady rats and 5 boy rats. Not a single solitary time did I ever give a rat a bath. They are constantly grooming themselves and one another. They never smelled or were dirty. It is simply unnecessary and does more harm than good. If they are unable to groom properly due to old age or an injury that might be an exception.

People shouldn’t always believe what their vets or the pet store tell them ☺️ If she was told to do it to give medication she obviously took it a bit too far to do it in non dangerous situations
BananaMilk Ls Not necessarily, but it’s always good to offer them a wheel (of appropriate size) in case they want to use one. Some rats LOVE them, some are interested sometimes, and some will only use them as a place to perch lol. If you do get a wheel, make sure it’s the right size and make sure it’s safe. Wire/mesh wheels are hazards, and the wheels that have a bar in front can be dangerous for rat tails.
Question. For anyone. For younger new rats would began dog food be fine to feed them with a mix of veggies and more stuff? Someone told me that vegan dog food works best.

Do they sell wheels that are 16 or 14 inches? I've only seen 12 in wheels.
Not in regular pet stores unfortunately. You have to get them elsewhere such as tik tak or bucket wheels

If your rats eye is popping out it needs to see a vet, it could result in blindness or loss of the eye if left untreated.

Pets at home is trash, I have a whole video on why I think so. I’ve never been to an America pet store so I can’t compare but they all use rodent mills so I feel the same about any chain pet store like that

This is so cute! I just uploaded two videos of my rats recently! I've seen some but many more of other pets and animals.
Since 2003 I've had 9 lady rats and 5 boy rats. Not a single solitary time did I ever give a rat a bath. They are constantly grooming themselves and one another. They never smelled or were dirty. It is simply unnecessary and does more harm than good. If they are unable to groom properly due to old age or an injury that might be an exception.
The second pair of rats look exactly like mine! One albino, one black hooded.

Emi, the person who picked up their rat by the scruff was told by her vet she could do it not that it was good but that if it had to be done it should be handled like that (that probably didn't make sense)
People shouldn’t always believe what their vets or the pet store tell them ☺️ If she was told to do it to give medication she obviously took it a bit too far to do it in non dangerous situations

BananaMilk Ls Not necessarily, but it’s always good to offer them a wheel (of appropriate size) in case they want to use one. Some rats LOVE them, some are interested sometimes, and some will only use them as a place to perch lol. If you do get a wheel, make sure it’s the right size and make sure it’s safe. Wire/mesh wheels are hazards, and the wheels that have a bar in front can be dangerous for rat tails.

No. Rats have specific nutritional values that need to be met and I really doubt that vegan dog food has the right percentage of protein, fat, etc

And then she had my three babies nim, norbert and norris but norris died suddenly three months ago...😢
Rats carrying larger litters will look bigger, younger rats who are pregnant may also appear bigger 🤷🏻♀️
But she only had three...😂 I think pom (my female rat) was just big and pregnant.
