My Candlekeep players love visiting nearby cities and points of interest. I replaced Meiron with Nashkel, and made Vermeillon up in the mountains nearby. It fit perfectly!
exactly! ive made the same! They have just arrived at Vermeillon and will explore it next session!
Currently burning through all of your videos now, so thankful I found it, some real great insight, and it was nice to hear some of your comments on the Joy of Extradimensional spaces after i ran it , reassured me i ran it well, unfortunately found it after but now i have the rest, especially looking forward to the curse of strahd stuff, thanks for the content!
thank you and no problem! plenty of CoS content up already, and some more still coming soon!
The amount of people pointing out grammar in the comments.... I'm here for tips on a one shot, not an English lesson. Great video and helpful tips/advice. Thanks for your time!
thank you so much!
Thanks a lot for summing it up.I am currently running Candlekeep Mysteries as a campain along side some backstory hooks and your series helped me a lot thanks .
thank you and no problem!
Just finished running this one today. Group loved it, but the end got a little wonky for us. Eventually everything fell into place though. It was the second session in our new "Monster of the Month." campaign I am running. I set them up so they will start to receive "royalty" checks from the newly opened mine.
I actually changed the beginning so the party was in the keep researching something else when they were asked to settle a friendly dispute between the owners of a mining company, at the keep also doing research, on whether or not the place actually existed. Eventually being hired out to prove it, one way or the other.
Awesome stuff, I'm sure that monthly income will be put to good use haha
Useful to watch! Helped a bit with the planning, running this in my main campaign, just changing some of the names up. Only thing I'm struggling on is what to do with the meenlocks if they fail to kill them all. Might just force the confrontation through the caves then, even though that might not be accurate to their behavior.
Their behaviour could be influenced by the creatures they used to be, which would be mining all day long!
About to run this in a few days. Thanks for the tips.
thank you and no problem!
This one is really interesting, and I think I'll use it in my Ravenloft campaign. I think I'll have the town already in the Mists, and will use it as a hook. If the PCs can save the town, they gain the chalet in the Book of the Raven adventure. If they can hold it, they have the chance to become the new leaders.
awesome stuff! this creepy adventure goes great in the domains of dread!
My problem with this adventure is that 'that fear, that paranioa' which is so encouraged here just.. isn't gameplay. It's just the gm reading stuff out. I don't mind it as a way to try and get players immersed in the vibe, but it needs to be there along side *some* sort of challenge, some sort of way to use their skills, judgement, or abilities, doesn't it?
If the meenlocks do absolutely nothing but make a few spooky noises, the players aren't going to be scared of them. And if all they do is search around empty rooms for an hour they're going to get bored, and no amount of spooky fluff text is going to help with that.
it really depends on the kind of group you have. some groups love the suspense, and others want something more. tailor it to your group, maybe if they would get bored of seeding paranoia, perhaps some mechanical implications are in order!
my suggestion is use someone from the players backstory saying something like why did you leave us etc
"At some point they'll learn that they CANNOT pass" 🤣 you have alot more faith in your players then i have in mind
haha sometimes its a hopeful faith!
So any recommendations on what to do if a party member does split off from the group and get captured by the meenlocks how as a dm you might go about running that? What I was thinking was you just tell them that their character has gone missing and then maybe rp something with them in another room as they are being tortured and then have them be discovered in the meenlock boss fight room? I don’t know how fun that will be for them if it happens to early just watching everyone else explore the town.
something I recomend is having backup PCs in a one shot like this! if thats not your style, then perhaps capturing just isnt in the cards here
I love meanlocks , I will even add them to my curse of strahd campaign
One question about them though
So they make sounds and shadows to make themselves creepy, not revealing themselves until they have a chance to single out a pc preferably one with holy tendencies like a paladin or a cleric
But what if the pc rolls high on perception?
Should he notice the mean lock ? How to deal with a high perception roll?
maybe very brief descriptions as they fade into shadow; clicking mandibles, buggy eyes, pincer claws, etc etc!
I like the video format. Short and sweet. I almost stopped listening at " someone who ran this". I point it out because I like the video enough to say grammar mistakes in the first minute are going to turn a lot of people off. Is it fair, I don't know but there is a lot of content out there and yo compete with so every little bit helps. Keep it up the cool reviews
english is hard for all of us haha!
@@NoFunAllowed agree my favorite so far in life was when in Honduras a girl said to me I got so "drank" last weekend. Surprisingly it was technically correct but in the use of the language you would know it is "drunk". Keep up the good content man and thanks for replying.
@@dean8864 thank you and no problem!
Overall this is pretty good, but please stop saying "go ahead and" every five to fifteen seconds. It's so grating!
blame our education system haha!
