    Thanks for the clarification on the conversion process. I was looking to do this upgrade and knew that I needed 302mm caliper mounting brackets and was not sure if that meant I needed larger calipers as well. Makes so much more sense now that we are just allowing for 302mm rotors to now be "pinched" instead. Great work!

    That's such a nice and easy mod! I'm going to do it on my 850. Just got myself a set of 17'' titans, will clear the caliper. Now I just have to find the caliper mounting brackets. After the upgrade I will have to down-size the brakes before every winter, because in my country it is mandatory to have winter tires on, and the set that I have are 15'' (also have a set of columbus which also will become useless).... or I will have to get some perfos wheels for the winter. Thanks!

    I really wanted to do this upgrade when I did my brakes a few months ago. Sadly they wouldn't clear my Columbias and I wasn't going to sand the calipers down to make up space. Thanks for the video!

    It's a good idea to suction out the old fluid out from the top of the master cylinder when changing the fluid. There was some trash and old material from worn seals in the bottom of my master cylinder. You don't want to push any of those particles through the braking system into the anti-lock braking module or into the calipers. I flush the brake system every time I change pads. My master cylinder and calipers are 19 years old and still working well.

      11” rotors = 27.9cm or 279mm
      12” rotors = 30.4cm or 304mm

    Im not too sure about this mod, if the caliper and shoes covered more of the disk then i could see better braking.
    With that bigger disk there is more material passing the shoes per rotation, i would have thought that would have generated more heat, but the center of the disk may take some of that heat away too.
    Its juggling with the variables lol, i hope it is actually better :-D
    The braded brake hoses will make it sharper :-)

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 лет назад +1

      I'm thinking about attaching a temperature sensor to the caliper and monitoring the temperature through the day. Then comparing it with a vehicle that has the stock setup.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 лет назад +1

      Now I have another variable in the system, brake pads that are supposed to run cooler.

      +Robert DIY Good point :-D, well im confused (nothing new) :D

    • @sonicstep
      @sonicstep 7 лет назад

      "With that bigger disc there is more material passing the shoes per rotation" Therefore it should follow that more material will be available to conduct the heat away from the pads. Further, more disc material/surface area will improve convection to the air it passes through, thus minimising brake fade and improving braking consistency under prolonged pressure at appreciable speeds and vehicle carrying loads.
      Further explanation would require a study of molecular physics, concerning heat increases of material structures and their relationship with friction. There are traditional steel brake discs, carbon ceramic brake discs, various pad composite types all offering their various performance pros and cons.
      With reference to my RC model cars, I have used aluminium three piece (for increased pressure over single), steel single piece vented, GRP (glass reinforced plastic composite) discs..
      Do this hobby you learn!
