Very cool Dustin! Have you tried using it for filming in a freshwater lake - rather than the sea? I am wondering if you could see in rivers or lake floors.
Great video Dustin, You are the Man! You really put these things through their paces. I really wasn't thinking about getting one of these until I saw your video but I am seriously considering it now. Hi Dustin did you see those little fish on the fpv screen I'm just wondering I'm thinking about buying and I understand about the scratchy part watching your video cheers for that but trying to find the detail in the fpv screen is it like dji p4 as a reference.

Great video! I bought one of the first Phantoms when it came on the market. No gimbal. I did purchase one later, but didn't install it. Lost interest. Mainly because I wanted to shoot mostly over or near water (and snow) ... and just didn't fancy losing that much investment. But this has certainly rekindled my interest! Here on the island (Newfoundland) we get a lot of icebergs and humpback whales in the spring time and lots of snow during the winter ... and I'd love to have one of these!
A couple of questions: What range can you get with this unit? Did you modify it so you could use the FatShark or did you purchase it with that option? Which version is this, by the way? I think there are four purchase options.

+zircon215 I have not tested range yet but you can always improve it if you need with antennas and boosters. This has a 32ch 5.8ghz VTX so any 5.8ghz setup can tune in. I have a 32 channel aftermarket vrx module in my fatsharks. This is the fisherman auto version.

How does it do at nite? Using the lowest f/stop available & a fast shutter.
The Splashdrone 4 is the current version and it has the antennas external so you don't lose signal like this V3 does when in the water.

Great video! Wondering if you would suggest a SplashDrone or a Mavic Pro for a drone beginner? Want to get something that is relatively easy to fly, but also like the autonomous options that the Mavic has.
+redneck01906 Get this one if you need it to be waterproof. This is a large drone, Mavic is very small. Both made for different purposes :)
Doesn't need to be waterproof. How is the mavic for a beginner though?
+redneck01906 it's possible for a beginner as long as you really take it slow and be very cautious until you get your orientation down. Make sure your in a wide open space and not around people until your are proficient at flying. Also read the manual better than I did :)

Have fun. Don't forget to rinse with freshwater well in your using in saltwater. Also throw a bag of desiccant (those silica moisture absorption bags) into the body when your not using it will help with longevity.

Won't have to worry to much with saltwater here in Chattanooga Tennessee but do have a couple of beach trips planned this year along with a 956 mile pontoon boating trip from Chattanooga to the Gulf of Mexico so looking forward to having the Swellpro document the trip! i bet thats not how you clean every drone! that is very awesome, i never been to the ocean, be nice to have a waterproof drone, the website says you can fly it in rain, be good around here, i wish i had this in august of last year when it flooded, i could have got some great shots! I love all your drone videos

Loved the video of the fish swimming around under water. Though I live next to Lake Erie, fish generally don't come near the surface to where you can see them with that kind of setup. Hope you are able to get some Shark and/or Whale video .. that would be nice. Nice demo .. pretty tough machine! Cheers.

Someone probably already pointed this out but at the end of the flight drone kept dipping because low battery as you heard the beeps. Most drones have trouble holding altitude when battery is low
+Jose Ruiz It is possible and may be a bit more pronounced on low battery. It still does it somewhat at full charge though
Cool drone. Gopro good. What camera are you using to film from goggles? Horrible. Why can't you expect better altitude hold? I think for its price it should be better.
When you said " slam it into the water"....almost fell out of my chair. Salt water and drones....

Definitely sweet drone.
Just a drop of Rain-X on the camera lens then buff it with a lens cloth and the water can't stay on the lens when you're flying.

the fog is because the temp difference. when you locked the go pro you maybe had 80 percent humidity at 28C. Dunked in the water and suddenly the glass is at 16 so the realtive humidity jumps to more than 100 and it condensates! To solve this close the go pro underneath an AC in your car. Cold and dry

QuantuMlapZiz I don't know about half I have a f550 with a sony nex5 gimbal setup and 2 250 quads but I also use the phantom 3 standard because I like the hd downlink but it's mostly used for the smart features and drone deploy

Dustin : Marvelous video! You might consider modding the Splash Drone. Mount two more water sealed antennas on top of the bird. Two up and two down. Clear FPV when looking down in the water would be much cooler. Seeing everything clearly on the monitor would alert you to a shark looking to chomp on the quad. That would definitely alleviate the worry about, reliably, being able to turning the motors off and back on. Motors off while floating around would definitely increase battery endurance, plus it would eliminate the motor sound that might attract unwanted attention from sharks. ;-)

they legit have quick release atachments for this to have a quick release on it, so you bait your hook. open your line bale on your rod, fly over a school of fish and hit a button and it drops your bait into the water, nuts

how long did your battery last?? people who bought the SPLASH 3 they are getting less than 10 minutes!!! they have a new controller with a built in screen and its NOT water resistant at all, only the swellpro SPRY controller is waterproof, the SPLASH and the swift 2 controllers are not waterproof dont get it wet i spoke to the company today,

Eventually I would think the motors or motor bearings would need replacing but everything else seems like it will withstand the salt water for a long time.
