Thanks for what you do mate! One quick question! I have a neighbour whose a bit of an idiot to put it nicely, if I got a visit and shut the door on them I can see him involving himself and maybe telling them I've got a TV in the house (he doesn't know what a game console is). Will that be enough evidence to get them a warrant? Not that I've anything to hide because I don't watch the tv anyway, it's all bollocks.

I would give higher scores where the goon is told to sling their hook or FO from the first moment.
If you abuse them they are likely to call the police, and anything you say could be used as evidence to obtain a search warrant from a judge, you need to be very careful when trying to act like a smart Alec, just no thanks close the door is the best coarse of action.

Over 75 - Had a visit - wife out in front garden at the time - goon by gate, She asked who are you? He said TV Licensing. She said no thank you. Well trained by me.

If the Goon is using his private car for work I hope he has business insurance .
He is checked by a manager for correct insurance before using private car. They are also alerted when the renewal date is due for a recheck of insurance. They also have random checks on driving license, mot and insurance.

@@icdgyixifyinstereo No ....I hate them. I just answered a point raised. To drive their own car for this job the insurance is checked by managers etc. Cant wait for them to turn up on my doorstep.
@@peteradams5857 I suspect you detailed what they are supposed to do. I find myself wondering how many supervisors actually do those checks. Looking at the sort of low rent types they send to bang on doors, I can't imagine the supervisors are all of the highest quality or diligence. They are employed by Crapita after all, a company with a reputation for being more interested in getting the most dosh for the least effort.
@@remittanceman4685 once those idiots start work the details of MOT, Insurance and driving licence are stored in a computer. This then sends out reminders for checks to be done. The supervisors have to sign a legal document saying they have checked these and then enter the details. One supervisor in the south west of England was sacked for saying he checked these documents when in fact he didnt. He is now facing criminal court case after the TV Goon was involved in a serious road crash. He had no insurance on his car for nearly 3 months after his renewal was due.
Upside of this ..............the goon can watch TV for free in prison. 😁😁👍👍

That's really good as no one should feel afraid especially in their own home. Personally I keep them at my door for as long as possible because in my head if I can waste an hour of their time it might save someone else for being harassed, bullied and intimidated.
What I found when I first started getting visited was how hard it was to _not_ identify myself when they asked me if I was Mr Uren. It was just automatic 'Are you such-and-such?'
'Yes.' Is such an easy thing to fall into. Once I'd cracked that one, it was easy. I often start with 'Never mind who I am, Who are you?'
'I'm from TV licensing.'
'NO thanks!' *Bang* (sound of the door closing 😉)
the correct answer to "are you X?" or "Can I speak to X?" is always "who's asking?"

1974 was the year Australia stopped with the TV licence game. Amazing the BBC still puts the UK through such an antiquated model.
There are so many countries still using the TV licence, Ireland and Germany are the worst.

@@daniel1970ification In Ireland a licence is required to own a TV (160 Euro) even a broken one, in Germany every household must have a licence even if they do not have a TV (220 Euro). Some countries need a licence to use the internet and to listen to a radio.
It's because the BBC brings in about 5 billion pounds a year, and 3.8 of that comes from TV licences. So the reason people in the UK still has to deal with +this+ shit more or less boils down to greed.
Hearing America having to pay for tv was strange to hear, but a tv licence that you can get fined for is next level wow. Glad to have Freeview here, there’s some decent shows on it that stands out from the reality tv..

i cancelled our licence in december 2018. in february 2019 there was a knock at the door, upon opening the door the geezer said "hello i'm doing a survey into what channels people watch on tv" i knew immediately it was tv licensing being devious trying to get people to admit to watching live tv. he duly got the door in his face without a word from me. so far no other goons have been back

I think you are wrong when you say that you shouldn’t talk to them. I think you should talk to them as much as possible, you shouldn’t answer any questions but should ask plenty of them. The reason for this is because these goons work on commission and it should be everyone’s right to waste as much of their time as possible. Imagine if everyone they visit in a day kept them talking for half an hour or so with no sale at the end of the day.
I agree if you have the spare time it would be quite funny to keep them at the door for as long as possible
Be careful though or they may come back with the plod and say you were guilty of obstruction

My standard response is “I don’t deal with anyone on my doorstep” and shut the door, polite but firm. I’ve just got rid of my licence, and that lot will be treated the same if they knock. I used to be too nice, but learned my lesson and now I don’t even give them chance to speak, that’s if I bother answering at all.
First video was worth an 8/10. The last audio recording was also decent. Just a bit of interaction before the door shut. Again, a solid 8/10.
Just had another letter arrived, saying we are under investigation. ( that's about the 9 or 10th one ). It's going to be good, knowing the weather is changing, Sat in the house, fire on, warm & dry, watching them at the door. The last one, was knocking for a while, put a letter through the letter box, & just to p*** them off, I shouted, close the gate after you.
Fire on... TV on and curtains closed lol

As our host said, don't interact with them. Even the last seemingly innocuous statement about closing the gate after you will be construed as you having acknowledged who they were and why they were there, if it ever gets to court.

Take away leaflets, mps wanting a vote. There is no law saying, I have to answer door to tv licence goons, or any body else.
I got rid of my licence just over a year ago, Jon - since then, I've had about 6 visits already and around about at least 20 letters of differing standards and variations. At least now they using to "the occupier" on them instead . . . However, I don't think they'll ever give up trying to put a scare into people in to paying money for it every time until something is finally done via the government to bring a complete stop to it all . . .
Sadly if the licence is scrapped unless the bbc becomes a subscription service , it will be funded by stealth tax of some sort , and then even people without tv licences will be paying again and even homes without any form of tv viewing will be feeling the pinch .

August 2020 I tried to contact the TVLA through their website to cancel my licence rather than just stop paying. Couldn't get through so used the complaints procedure. Within a week, they acknowledged my intent and said they would contact me again in about two years to see if my situation has changed. Well, last week an email from them to which I replied nothing had changed and had an email saying ok. No letters, no visists. If you do it properly then it isn't a problem.

@@K-Man76 Hi Keith, I understand your point but unlike the BBC (through a Royal Chater), Amazon, my mobile and ISP, do not have the responsibility to administer the Telecommunications Act 2003. The Law puts the onus on the BBC to, in effect, police the Act and they do so through the TVLA. So in the two and a half years without a licence I've had one email asking for an update on the status quo. It took two minutes of my time to read and reply accordingly. Should I receive any letters I'll just ignore them and if I get a visit then I'll just politely ask who's calling and then politely ask them to leave and close the door.

Oh and a note on door bells, maybe the people on here don't like to have to subscribe to Ring's services, in which case the Eufy Door Bell is better as the video is stored on the local box it is supplied with indoors via WiFi, one off purchase, no monthly fees, I'd have to guess that people who prefer not to watch live TV and pay the BBC might like that option better

It's why I've never bought one of those or the various security cameras on the market. Can't stand when you've got to pay a subscription for storage that can be done locally.
Yes I have a Eufy door bell too, I also like the fact you don't have to pay for storage costs when it's stored on your own base station.
@@paul756uk2 you don't pay for storage with Ring. It's a one off purchase price and then free to use. I think you only need to pay if you have more than one Ring camera though. Good to know there's decent alternatives though.
@@noggintube I know that you get a certain amount of free storage but I thought after that you had to pay. My son's got one though I'm not sure if he pays. I looked at the eufy stuff and it seems pretty good.

Yeah got the letter at a few properties yesterday and say they are coming on the 17th they are going to be busy that day!!! what a load of rubbish these letters are makes me so happy i dont pay or watch live TV

One uses a stamp with faded edges to look like it’s done by hand. The signature in blue matches the other on the bottom of the letter perfectly. There’s another that the envelope is in a hand written font to appear hand delivered but it’s clearly franked by RM.
It's not the BBC though, it's Capita mucking about.
The BBC just needs to be given a funding source like they have in other countries.

I wish one would show up as I don't particularly like being threatened be it by letter or personally. So if someone says that they are visiting my property on XXX I expect them to visit. So when they do actually show up I will enjoy every moment of our confrontation.

I wasnt nervous i found it funny. In the silent moments i was sniggering pointing at giant 30 on my door and i told them nothing. I was off guard its true was about to jump in a shower. It was my first ever visit

I love doing this with internet scammers. I kept one on with a silly story for an hour before rickrolling him over screenshare. Had a good laugh. Mustn't have been the sharpest tool in the shed as they seemed to think they had me.

Can some please tell me why we pay for Sky or Virgin etc, Which includes bbc,itv etc. If we already paying to view these channels surely it's up to these digital cable companies to pay the right amount of licencing rights to supply public. I mean why should we pay twice for channels? If the cost was built into the package there be no need to pay tv licence separate. They seem to make out just because have a tv you need a licence. No you only need a licence if watch bbc etc. We need to stop this rubbish of finding people guilty only because have access to a tv. Just because you could watch certain channels doesn't prove you are.

Remember to advise everyone in your household what to do if they answer the door to one of these guys. Be polite, make it clear you are not interested in talking to them, and shut the door. Don't say things like "I don't need a TV license" or "I don't watch live TV". Tell them NOTHING. They are noting down and using every single interaction they have with you, and in the event that something does go wrong they will use everything against you.
I knew a baby sitter who answered the door, she said she doesn't live there . That's fine, he said I'll just take your details. After that, he explained if the homeowner doesn't buy a license, she'll be fined. The home owner panicked and bought a licence. Everyone in your house has to be on board.
Then 12mths later, you can share your TV licence savings amongst Everyone 🙂

Man I just come here to tell you the truth : the amount of deterioration of quality on TV programs over the past years has been so relentlessly concice that these days I don't even bother with TV and enjoy a quality evening watching the latest news and views on notifications from my channels that I honestly love to follow on RUclips , it's the only way forwards as I often say to friends who also enjoy the you tube platform fuck TV these days is so bad that they would have to Pay Me to watch most of the Trashy Shit on the box , I'm out and significantly advanced leveling up on hear these days to enjoy content and am for the last few years very happy to leave trash TV programs in the dust where they belong !
The Goons should dress up as Jimmy Saville then everyone would buy a TV license. I would buy two just to be sure and I don’t even have a TV.
I like the absence of any effing and jeffing in all of these clips. Everyone was courtious, which was good. You might not agree with the goons (and I don't) but there's no need to bring yourself down to their level. I cringe at clips like that.
The main thing is no TV licenses were issued in the making of these clips. Good effort all round 👍

Surely the goons should know by now that CCTV and Ring doorbells etc are common place now, so they should be acting professionally and politely - as they should be in the first place!!

There's a good view of that handheld device that they use at 1:45. I know that Jon was trying to find out what the device is capable of doing in another of his videos.
Always keep my front door locked, cancelled licence in June not had a visit or any letters yet. Having watched a lot of these goon visit videos the black folder seems to be a theme so will look out for that if I get a visit, I will say exactly what you have advised to say and shut the door.
Just use the T.V to watch DVDs.

Either pay the licence fee or allow them to inspect your installation and verify that you can't and don't watch live television.
Then you can have a less stressful life.

TV licence crawlers are one of the best sources of wind up's around. I always tell them I refuse to buy a licence and then shut the door in their face.

Just got a letter with "INVESTIGATION STARTED" in big letters on the front. The scare mongering they do in the letters would definitely frighten some people. Even if they dont need a TV licence

I got a simular letter put through my college dorm door, which I found odd af cause I actually do have a TV license so getting a letter beign threatened to be fined 1k for not being licensed is weird af and I'm.waiting for the goons tk show up to tell them I am licensed, I have proof I'm.licensed so they can fuck ogf

I’m always amazed how these people think it acceptable to start asking questions without identifying themselves first. If nothing else it’s plain rude. I don’t care too much they are welcome to knock my door but I won’t be talking to some random who opens a conversation by knocking on my door and asking who I am.

I think 10/10 would be to start asking them to tell you about the specific shows that they offer to see if you're interested and then at the end so no thanks; try to keep them there as long as possible.

Good to see that the TV licencing staff are behaving sensibly and taking no thank you for an answer (the last one could have been a bit better).
Does telling them "no thank you" get recorded? Is a no answer visit more likely to cause them a return visit? If they return when someone else answers the door and may give them too much information away.
Scores I'd give: 9, 8 or 10 (depending if they are single occupancy, or if everyone in the house understands how to deal with them), and another 9.
There are alternatives to Ring that record locally (some on the device, which has theft concerns), but the Ring ecosystem is very strong and the subscription becomes very cost effective after 3 or more devices.
Why do the TV licence goons do this job ..shurly they could find more worthwhile jobs that match their IQ...like picking up dog crap out of parks and open spaces

A script is nice but there's the real chance they'll devise a trap but to trap you from refusing to speak to them is inherently much harder as they have nothing to work with.
Be careful even asking them to leave as they will take this as proof you are the owner/tenant of that address.

Surely in your scoring system a perfect 10 should be reserved for those people who keep the Goon on their doorstep for hours without learning anything, the longer he spends with you the less time he has to annoy other people - I suggest trying to convert him to your brand of religion (don't have one, OK make one up), he'll be off quicker than you can say Jehovah's Witness .

No this is a terrible idea. There are loads of RUclips videos of people thinking they are being clever chatting away to the goons. All it takes is a Goon slipping a sneaky yes or no question in somewhere while you chat and you to answer without thinking. Then it's on their body camera and they can grab a warrant.

I have a door-knock strategy that so far has been 100% effective with anyone I don't know or recognise as an identifiable authority figure.
It goes like this:
Knock knock!
I open the door and see clipboard man/woman (they're invariably carrying a clipboard) standing there.
I immediately greet them (in a friendly and conversational manner) thus: "Oh hello. What are you selling?"
Their reply 100% so far is, 'I'm not selling anything."
To which I reply (again in a friendly and conversational manner), " That's great because I'm not buying anything. Good day."
And I close the door. So far no one has ever come back.
Years ago a lady got a phone call from the TV license people asking her if she had a license, she did but there was a problem so the license people said we have to check and she says okay, if you come around this afternoon my husband will be in the license is under the clock on the fireplace. So the license person appears at the door and says to the husband you have a TV licence it’s under the clock on your fireplace would you kindly show it to me and the husband replies my God just how accurate are your licence detectors?
