The actual way the original photographer got this look is shooing on film, grab a film point and shoot, put fiji c200 or kodak gold in it and underexpose it, then recover the exposure when scanning. Honestly, it's super easy you could do it on a disposable if you wanted too. If you know Film you can easily see the fake copies of the look.

I guess it would be film cameras - especially old film cameras - turn on the flash and make sure you're shooting in dark scenery - also you can try disposable cameras - this will be the cheapest way to try ;)
