  • This 2.2 Defender 110 has been around a few independant specialists, trying to fix a really strange fault. We discuss the cars history with its current owner and crack on with some diagnostics, checking live data and monitoring how the car responds. Fitting a new, genuine Land Rover mass air flow sensor certainly improved things, but something still wasn't right.
We eventually identified the main issue, which was caused by a badly written remap! This is quite a journey so grab a cuppa and enjoy.
Alive Tuning Limited have been making the ordinary, extraordinary since 2006, and have bought, owned, tested and developed the engine calibrations and complimentary components on every Land Rover model and diesel engine type from 1999 to 2020. By owning and living with each model, we've been able to really dig in and properly understand the strengths and weaknesses of every engine, whilst fine tuning even the smallest details to produce a range of engine tuning options that are quite frankly, unparalleled.

How much do you charge for a stage 1 on a Puma, like the one in the video.
    Thank you.

Puma remapping is £395+vat. Dyno testing is an option at Alive HQ, and at our dyno equipped dealers.

Frustrating as the whole scenario was, When editing it was decided not to name names. There are clues on who it might have been and if you listen carefully there’s a giveaway clue within the video.
The bottom line is, no matter how “big” or “reputable” a tuner may be, the MOST important aspect you need to consider is their knowledge and experience of your car. If it’s something they genuinely specialise in, then it’ll make the shortlist.
As a specialist in our field, we know exactly how to get the best out of each engine as we’ve actually bought, owned and lived with each engine type in various models, spending countless hours analysing, developing and testing our engine tuning so we understand the limitations.
These “we tune any car” type places are usually pretty dreadful and have rarely put in any development time.
