Thank you for watching my videos! This channel is dedicated to animal education and improving the lives of captive animals.
    Here’s little about me!
My name is Meghan Arriola and I live in Texas with my husband Jaime, where I dedicate my time to taking care of exotic and domesticated animals on my farm. We run a rescue and sanctuary for animals like alpacas, birds and reptiles. I do animal education presentations for groups and schools. Our alpacas also do events where we are able to teach people about these unique animals. I have used service dogs for medical needs for over 10 years and I am an advocate for assistance animals and mental health awareness.
I am an animal educator that brings science related ideas to an audience from around the world by presenting fun and interesting topics in a family friendly way. Animals touch our lives in unique ways everyday as simply being our pets and companions, but how can we make their lives equally as special now that they live in captivity? My RUclips channel and blog explore ways to meet this goal by tackling things like animal behavior, human-animal relationships and veterinary medicine. Animal science is a great way to teach people of all ages that education is fun and nerdy is cool.
My previous animal related work experience includes working in veterinary clinics, private zoos, training horses and volunteer work in wildlife rehabilitation, rescue/foster/adoption programs and therapeutic horsemanship for children with disabilities.
When I am not working with animals, I am working at the health care clinic owned by my husband Jaime and I, where we provide services to low income, minority neighborhoods. We have been on the frontlines fighting covid19. I also have a passion for art and I am an award winning painter and photographer and published author. I am naturally very introverted but I am extroverted about sharing my passions and doing my part to make the world a better place!

I love the shade “for some reason people decide to feed their dog kibble” like not everyone can afford to feed a raw diet everyday.

    • @Okamisou
      @Okamisou 3 года назад +35

Ive calculated it, depending on what you get if you go for on sale meats it can average out about $1.50-$2.00per lb of raw foods where as a decent kibble brands can be around $2.50-3.00
So it breaks even or can be cheaper depending on how you do it. The only sucky part for raw foods is the prep and clean up.

@@Okamisou you also have to calculate the cost for vegetables and others to get the missing nutrients that meat doesn't provide right?

@@671TechReviews it depends which you are doing. Are you doing Barf diet? Also what grocery stores are nearby? I found that aldis have very decently priced veggies and berrys. Especially if you decide to get berrys in the frozen smoothies packets.

No shade. There are many reasons why someone might feed kibble. Convenience, budget, what they are comfortable with, etc and none of them are reasons for you to be offended

If someone saves a dog from the streets or a shelter, I understand that they "dp what they can".
If you buy a dog from a breeder you should feed them the very best they can get which is a Balanced Raw Diet.

Our old dog developed kidney issues due to a poor quality kibble, we didn't know better and trusted the vet until she hit kidney failure (age 15). At that point we switched to a high quality grain free filler free food as well as some more homemade stuff (eggs, vegetables, chicken, turkey and brown rice) to supplement. She lived until 20 but the food change made it so she no longer needed all the meds. Our puppy now has addisons and is incredibly picky food wise. We got her to finally eat a dehydrated raw food after trying a bunch of kibble and wet foods. It's expensive but she's small and a little goes far. We noticed a big change.

Doesn’t chew his feet anymore after being in the grass. His coat is shiny and he doesn’t have dry skin anymore. Simply from hills. Just like diets for humans, dogs are all different as well. What works for one may not work for another. I’m grateful for hills giving me a happy basset. I’ll stick to experience vs someone reading online and then passing it off as original content.

I work at a petstore and LOATH Royal Canine! Pedigree most people know is bad news, but people shelling out $60 a bag feel like their giving them something good. Especially since their vet is pushing it. Pisses me off. I LOVE educating people on good food!

Is there something you can recommend for a Jew puppy? I’ve been looking at the instinct brand kibble with raw boost but it’s impossible to know what’s good and what isn’t. There is so much conflicting information. I use to feed my dog blue Buffalo and she died at 8 years old to sickness so I wanna pick something better this time :(

Blue Buffallo is one of the worst rated dog foods as "expensive as it is".
It has been recalled several times and with many dogs causes either constipation/ diareahh.
If you guys are wanting a GOOD price dog food at a local box chain petstore- Candid and Taste of a Wild is amazing ❤

Edit* to clarify, blue Buffalo is the one with the garlic filler.

Blue buffalo is definitely not good, I work at a boarding kennel and find that the dog hates it and will refuse to eat it until it absolutely has to. If the dog does eat it long term it has a bad coat is constantly shedding overall very dull fur and flakey skin. I have seen 7 dogs so far that is fed this food with the same appearance.

I’ve been doing Instinct chicken recipe for my Amstaff puppy and it’s amazing but it’s so pricey, currently keeping him in there till 6 months until I transition to a freeze dried kibble or 50/50 raw/kibble mix . Btw great Bubs ;P

I’m so glad seeing this video because I feed my dogs taste of the wild and my vet always gives me heck for feeding that rather then science diet which is a brand she stands by. It’s funny though that she also sells that brand in her clinic and not the one I feed🙄😂 I’ve given my dogs science diet in the past but they always ended up having dry skin really bad and my one dogs allergies would act up, but they really do well on taste of the wild so that is what I go with for now. I do wish I could feed them a raw diet but I just simply couldn’t afford to do it properly. I’m not sure if you have ready made a video like this and I just have t seen it, but could you make a video on the expenses of feeding your dogs in a week? Like all the ingredients that you generally use in their weekly meals just so I could get an idea of how much it would be for my two boxadors? I have a 1 & 3 year old boxadors and they are my babies😍 Love your channel keep up the great work!!!!!!

Science diet is sadly not good quality food. They use corn gluten meal which is not fit for human consumption but it's actually a "leftover" after making corn syrup and sweeteners. You can Google all this it's all there.

Not to scare you but ToTW is currently or maybe always was very high in lead, heavy metals and other toxins. The worst offenders usually in all food in general is fish heavy foods and in this case the boar/beef is high in lead more lead then a house in the US someplace. You'll need to look it up on The Truth About Pet Food for more info.
Clean Label Project shows toxin levels but they also say that Ol'roy is good so I think they are a bit biased, but the tests themselves aern't. It's based on a really weird star system, best to just press on the food and see the results.

Have you heard of Stella And Chewy’s?I’ve been researching dog kibble for a few months,And Stella And Chewy’s seems to be the best that I can find for a somewhat reasonable price (Compared to Orijen 😬).They also have a line of kibble with grains, called “Wholesome Grains”,which I appreciate as I prefer dog food with grains.Thinking of switching my dog,but It’s not a super popular food so I still don’t know too much about it.I think I’ll need to do a little more research before I switch.

No food is going to be more filling than the other.
Can add low carb and high water additives to the food like a few cut up green beans to make it more filling-commonly used for dieting dogs to make them feel more full as their kibble amount is decreased.
