Hello everyone, noticed that there was no written recipe for this. But I’m gonna change that right now.
    Ingredients:
    -3lbs carrots
    -1 sweet potato
    -12oz bag of greenbeans
    -1 zucchini
    -3 medium heads of broccoli
    -4lbs protein
    -3/4 teaspoon tumric
    -kale or spinach
-calcium 7 tablespoons~1 tablespoon per pound
-1/2 cup of rice (brown or white)
    Directions:
    1. Peel & cut up carrots & sweet potatoes
    2. Get 2 medium sized pots, place in the carrots & sweet potatoes. Fill the vegetables in the pot with water, then cook on stove over medium heat until soft.
    3. Chop cup your zucchini, shred broccoli & snap greenbeans. Set aside in a bowl.
    4. Cook meat in a large pot over medium heat until the meat is only a bit cooked.
    5. Add tumric & the kale/spinach to the meat & incorporate it in. Add in the bowl of zucchini, broccoli, & greenbeans.
    6. When the carrots & sweet potatoes are soft drain the water from the pots. Mash up the sweet potatoes, then add them to the large pot. Mix in again
    7. Add in the calcium & rice, turn off heat & give a final stir mixing in the ingredients well.
    8. Put food in containers & store in fridge or freezer.
I hope this written recipe helped, thank you for the cool recipe Shelby. We have a little Pomeranian terrier mutt named Tigger, he has been getting sick his whole life & having these episodes. He starts shaking & can barely move, he also throws up. It’s pretty sad to see him go through that & after watching a documentary called “Pet Fooled” our family decided maybe it was a better option for Tigger if we made his own food. I think anyone can make food for their dogs with a little effort, I mean I’m only 15 & I wrote this whole recipe out for you. Also please don’t be afraid to change up the recipe & give different vegetables & meat to your dogs, preferably ones they like. Also miss RUclipsr it would be pretty cool if you could add this recipe to your description or just pin the comment. Thanks for reading & please critique or interpret this recipe anyway you like.

When I got my first dog in the third grade, I expected to buy the kibble but my Mexican family was like no he's a part of the family he eats what we're going to eat. He ended up living off of my grandma's chicken veggie soup his whole life, he completely loved it and I'm proud to say that aside from the annual shots, he never went to the vet for any illness. Even when he was passing of old age, he still looked/acted young and his coat never really lost his color. He couldn't see me graduate but I spent 15 wonderful years next to a super healthy dog. Fast forward half a year after his passing and I was gifted a new puppy. When I took her to the vet at two months, I explained to them that I was feeding her the same like my previous dog and they berated me for doing that, told me to at least give her kibble until 1 year old she she could have a balanced diet growing up. She hated it, even when I would splurge on the high-end kibble. I would mix it with the soup and she wouldn't touch the kibble, only lick around it. Now that the year is up I am trying to get back to looking up recipes like these, we're a couple of weeks in and she cleans the plate now, she loves eating whole stuff 🎉

How much food do you feed your dog and how many times a day? I have two dogs that are about 35lbs each. Thank you for this great video

    • @playwithme30
      @playwithme30 4 года назад +9

Ronnie. If you can feed your dog raw food and not cook anything the better. The video is a good starting off point but it is not a balanced diet. Dogs derive from wolves and wolves pretty much only have a raw diet. The recipe calls for about 5 pounds of veggies/supplements and only 4 pounds of meat. This is not right. Dogs need more meat than that. One of the other problems with this recipe is there are no organs and bones. Livers are extremely nutrient dense. I give my dog all organic and all natural from at the source itself. She doesn't need calcium supplements because she gets ground up bones in her food. I mean, why would you take a synthetic supplement vs the natural source itself? Dogs should have no less than 75% raw meats, bones and organs. Not all dogs can handle raw at first or just in general so you may need to play around with it.
Marion hessek. You just have to play around with different amounts and see what's best for them. My co-workers dog is 75 pounds and mine is 60. However, her dog eats three times the amount my puppy eats. Both dogs are very healthy. It just depends on a few things. At least twice a day but three smaller meals would be better for digestion(eating off the ground helps with them digesting their food too. My puppy eats about a foot off the ground) The same time every day is ideal but this can be hard to work around sometimes.

Since my babies are all seniors, I have to make their food soft, so I puree it with bone broth, organic if I can find it. I also add SamE and Milk Thistle, (per my vet) and little bit of vitamins. I go lite on the vitamins because of their age and the fact that some have poor kidney function. I cook the meat with a little bit of coconut oil. Thank you. Very helpful. I've been feeding my dog a (very expensive) raw commercial dog food, and I would like to switch him to a home prepared option. I will definitely try this! A couple of comments: I wouldn't peel the carrots and sweet potato. There are lots of nutrients in the peeling, and your doggo wouldn't mind the taste at all. Also, instead of using the calcium supplement, you might consider adding a couple eggs to your recipe (cook them in your mixture with the turkey). Then use the egg shells as your calcium. You can grind them in a food processor or blender and then just add them as you do your powder. Egg shells are 40% calcium carbonate, the rest is protein and other beneficial minerals. Thanks again. Sorry for the long reply.

I put them in a baking pan and cook them in the oven for 3-4 minutes at 300 degrees to kill the bacteria then I cool them and grind them in a coffee bean grinder, I only use the grinder for eggshell. You should rinse and dry them before putting in the oven. I also use a fine sieve after I grind them to catch larger pieces and re-grind them. Glad to see someone else makes their own food too!
I’ve been doing something similar for years now. Mines not allergic to their kibble, so I make mine as “wet food”. Mine gets protein (turkey, chicken....) bag of frozen veggies (it does have the sodium that canned veggies usually has), but then I add a filler, rice or lentils. Sometimes I’ll make mine the tomato sauce sometimes not. I’ll add this mix to their kibble, if it doesn’t have the tomato sauce, then I’ll add a little bit of water when I put this with their dry food they like the flavored water that it makes.

Is there a reason you dont add any fruit?
I do almost the same recipe but add uncooked bananas or shredded pineapple as superfruits (sometimes fresh raw seeded cherries and blueberries for inflammation and joint health)and put a whole small sized turkey, bones and all, with yams and kale in the slow cooker overnight. The bones turn to mush and they get the benefit of the marrow. That all goes in the food processor with fruit and grated fresh ginger root. I also sprinkle probiotics/acidophilus/bifidus on each warm meal and occasionally Spirulina.
I have 2 hairless Chinese Cresteds so good nutrition is critical for skin and health. Thx for sharing your routine. Showing how easy it is will hopefully encourage more pet parents to make changes.

I forgot to mention adding the oatmeal that I cook in with the carcass and yams and smash the bones good for the processor just as a precaution for shards.
I will add brown rice if I need to make it last longer until I can make more. White rice is easier to digest but has 0 nutrition value.

    • @7bcoop2
      @7bcoop2 5 лет назад

I need to start adding the bones, especially now that I have an Instant Pot. I add blueberries too, Cami, and an apple. (Never the pits or core-pits are poisoness). I stick my finger in to test taste, but haven't stolen a whole dish for my supper...yet! As someone else commented, my dog eats better than I do...but making his food has inspired me to eat more varieties of veggies myself.

Squanch Wanch nasty comments are not necessary. To each his own! I almost lost my Boxer from a raw diet. She got food poisoning, and the food came from a reputable company. Not saying it happens often, but it does occur.

    • @carolhogg6516
      @carolhogg6516 5 лет назад +2

Squanch Wanch. I do believe many dogs greatly benefit from a raw diet, it’s just that I had a very bad experience . I also had a friend who’s little dog got sick as it couldn’t digest small bone particles in the raw mix and ended up at the vet with blood in the stool. I guess it all comes down to the right supplier. I don’t feed my dog any kibble or treats that come from China. I do occasionally get dry treats that state they are grain free and organic locally made. Organic! That’s another questionable statement, one is never sure if that is in fact correct or not. I only slightly brown my meat and organs, plus I make my own bone broth. We can only try our best in a World that is often full of misrepresentation. 🤗🐕

Wow ! The first homemade food video Ive watched that does not make me cringe and fearful . Key bonus points in my opinion. Very little rice if at all. Portions of protein to veggies. Dogs are carnivores by nature. Their balanced diets are not our balanced diets. No salted canned items including broth. You did not cook the food for hours. You cooked each item separate then combined. My only suggestions is when switching to homemade limit ingredients, especially if allergies are an issue. just like a baby introduce items slowly, keep a journal. Feed limited ingredients for a couple of weeks and watch for issues. If an issue arises see if you have added something new and remove it . Once allergies are triggered it may take months to resolve. You can always go back and try the item again. I have cooked for 3 dogs for over 5 years. all 3 allergic to chicken( this is very common) No sweet potato for 2, 1 no bananas. A journal really helps here. Huge kudos to you girl !

Hey, if you ever run short on your calcium that you buy, you can also take eggshells and rinse them off and dry them. Then grind them into a powder. Put about 1/4 teaspoon into one serving or bowl of food. It is an excellent source of calcium.

Hi Shelby. I started rescuing in 1995. In 2000, Harrigan was diagnosed with bone cancer. I waa devastated. Though he didn't make it and more rescues came, I was convinced: we are what we eat. The perfected diet now comes in light from my new Eastern medicine veterinarian. Cubbie, from the NYCACC, almost died of bladder stones. They can't be passed by males. So I concentrate on healthy bladder and kidneys. Lots of kale, which I was happy to see that you do, and cucumber (no seeds). Turkey, which you also do, or white fish as they are both cold and dogs tend to run hot, not good. Beef is cold but causes stomach upset. Lots of natural herbs such as: bone meal, omega oils, vitamins, minerals, and a bunch of others. I do my meat raw. I know that's hard for some people, so that's a preference. Oh and on day 7, they get no meat, just Greek yogurt, honey, and oatmeal. They need a day of no meat on the raw diet.
Anyway, I think what you do is awesome. Thank you for educating people on how to extend their beloved pets lives.

I agree with you 100% on everything I've seen you cook. I have (by coincidence) been cooking my dog's food with basically the same ingredients. I also include quinoa and white rice. I like to also put in beets and pumpkin. I am doing this because one of my dogs got cancer (Maggie 16years old), and like you, I started researching and reading a bunch. Besides the natural, homemade meals, I give all of them one capsule of Turmeric a day. She was hardly walking before. Now she is even jumping. She is also being treated with Viscum, a daily injection derived from the mistletoe tree, created to treat humans and pets with cancer. After feeding them homemade food, my youngest dog (Nina 13 years) looks and acts like a puppy. I'm just sorry that I did not know this before. It's almost like human food. We know that fast food, processed foods, red meat, can cause cancer. Just like smoking..... So, you smoke and risk getting cancer, or quick and live healthier. The choice is ours, but our pets cannot decide for themselves. We need to provide them with the best we can offer. They are our responsibility and part of our family. Therefore, let's treat them like family.

    Tips from my homecooking:
Cook the carrots for 3 hours before pureeing. After 3 hours they release something that is good for the stomach and digestional system of your dog!
Also use a slow feeder bowl, for the fast eating. We have one for our dog and it works wonders! They have little designs in them that makes it harder to get the food. Fast eating can result in stomach aches!

I have 3 dogs. One of my dogs a female Chihuahua has a sensitive stomach too. I tried and spent so much money trying to figure out what food was best. I went from feeding Iams to Science Diet. My vet recommended Supreme Source which they ate for awhile, until the food sensitivity got worse as she aged and now my vet recommended Taste of the Wild lamb and rice; grain free, which all my dogs eat now. I love my pets and I want to make sure they keep eating quality food. My Chihuahua is 8 years old now and her stomach may change again so I'm preparing myself for when I may need to start making her food. Thanks for the video.

New subbie here. I ran across your channel while researching homemade foods for my furr child. lol Today is June 29, 2019 and I was startled while reading an article outlining that the pet food that I give my dog, Acana is number 1 with supposedly causing heart disease. I immediately grew worried and started researching homemade foods. I do feed my dog organic chicken mixed in with his dried dog food. He loves it, but I believe I want to do ground turkey as well. He's a 4 year old Teddy Bear, mix of Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu. Your channel is helping me make a very important decision for his dietary needs moving forward. Thank you!

JadeFoxx That is exactly what my Paisley is a mix of. She is 11 months old. I also have a Chorkie that is three years old. I have been making their wet food for about two months. I do add Iams kibble in their breakfast. Cooking it in the slow cooker/crockpot is wonderful.

@Elizabeth Porter Mine turned his nose up at the ground turkey. Lol He's an extremely picky eater and certain raw food diets he will not eat. He isn't one for veggies or fruit, so I combine organic chicken breasts with his new food and he loves it. He does not like change at first though lol

Oh my gosh, she is such a sweetheart! And I’m with you on the “puppy talk”. 😆
This is almost exactly how I used to feed my old dog over a decade ago and he did fantastic! He was 125 pounds though so I added this mixture to his RX kibble (he was allergic to life) and in only a couple of months, he looked and acted like a different dog. No more itchy skin, no more ear infections, no more yeasty paws, no more gooey eyes. His coat shined a blue/black in the sun and he had so much good energy. Everyone could tell he was finally comfortable and happy ❤️
My dog now has struggled with allergies since we moved away from Hawaii last year, so we’re gonna start with home cooked food him now. He’s 100 pounds sooooo...it’s gonna be expensive again but totally worth it ❤️
    Thanks for posting this 👍🏽👍🏽

I loved watching this! Thank you for taking time to explain some things you discovered during your research. I was very surprised to hear the staining around the eyes was from the dyes in kibble. Wow. Your doggie is precious. :)

Also the staining is from comes from not enough enzymes in the gut. That's why fresh foods are better and give the dog a probiotic and probiotic with enzymes and the staining will go away.

I'm so going to try this as our older mini poodle is coughing, shedding, itching...I feel so bad and the vet put her on prednisone. Some improvement but I don't want that to be a lifelong thing. Seems we've tried everything else, poor girl. Thanks much for this awesome video! Well done!

Common Sources of Fats and Oils for Dogs
Common sources of omega-3 fatty acids are fish oils (herring, salmon, etc.) and flaxseed and canola oils. Commonly used omega-6 fatty acid sources include pork fat, chicken fat (or any poultry fat), safflower and sunflower oils, as well as corn and soybean oils (vegetable oils).Oct 21, 2011

Liver is a must also other offals , instead of putting that much vegetable liver and hearts kidneys etc must be added for it to be perfect recipe. Dogs dont have the same digestion like humans not necessery to give so much veggies especially the ones that could cause gas

I mix some omega 3 fish oil (a pump or so) and some probiotic/prebiotic/enzyme powder (I use Bernies Perfect Poop) on my lil doggies food. I make a recipe like this but put chicken liver and kidneys and a bone broth on top. I make them treats with coconut oil, blueberries, pumpkin, apple, oats, and yogurt etc. I can make an incredible dog cake with a peanut butter/yogurt frosting. Usually though I just give em some carrots and apples or watermelon or pineapple
