Not really. Scott was a 62-38 dog entering the hand, he only had 3 outs to the A. Eastgate was way ahead.
The people acting like it's a bad beat, don't know poker. They got it all-in preflop, Montgomery was way behind, he spiked a 3 outer and a 2 outer, but then Eastgate's 1 outer ended him.
      River justice.

I think he did play well, but you’re right, he did run really well too. Most people that win it have a fair amount of luck go their way (Gold 06, Yang 07, Cada 09, Duhamel 10). It’s not often that people run bad and manage to come back and win. I remember Greg Merson losing with KK vs AK pretty late in the game, and he still came back to win, but other than that I don’t recall many times around that era where someone lost a big all in but still won the title. I think Eastgate deserved his title more than the 2 people who won directly before and the 2 people who won directly after him.

    yall might call eastgate lucky,
but tbh most of this final table was also pretty bad play by his opponents:
    1. montgomery moving all in pre flop with A3 was a little rushed
    2. schwartz bluffing all in with just ace high was very bad considering the stack he still had
    3. the worst of all... phillips coming in to the final table as chip leader, then proceeding to shove on the flop with just 10high and a gutshot, and then saying "i couldnt keep folding, had to do something." i mean bro you just punted away everything and call this "had to do something"
really the only one the played well and just got unlucky was demidov
