Hi guys, just came across your channel and this is a great video and has helped a lot. I've got one large panel I'm looking at fitting down the centre of the van so would require me to build cross beams with the unistrut. I've been looking at the Mule van mushroom adapters but seem quite pricey, are the etsy ones a good alternative?
HI, It's great to see someone has figured out to provide a low-cost solution to something that could prove to be very expensive it you bought the after-market supplier products. One question though; where did you get the right angle brackets that attach the solar panel itself to the unistrut?
Hi Guys Love the channel and we are learning a lot whilst converting our van. Would you honestly say the brackets from Etsy work well and are worth the money. It's a minefield out there and it gets a bit overfacing. Kind regards Jonny
Hi Johnny we think they are worth the money we have had them on for around 18months and 12000 miles now and they are still as good as the day we put them on. It can be done with Unistrut or similar but we couldn’t justify the time.
How have the mounting brackets held up since you constructed it about a year ago? We're thinking of a similar design for our roof rack - surfboards and solar panels built around 2x air vents. Thanks for the video - very helpful!
Just found your channel. Amazing job! Been trying to workout my solar panel fitment for ages. This is amazing and the way you show and explain is great. Can I ask where you got all the corner fitments for joining the unistut at the corners and the ones for across? Will be watching your other videos tomorrow. 😊
@Our.van.adventures Sorry for late reply. Honestly you have solved me a v sore head with this info and video. I have been going back and forward trying to decide what to do with the roof rack and your video has made the decision for me. My van is the H3 version so not a lot on the market when it comes to low profile roof rack and your version hits the right buttons for me. I'm off to order the parts and thanks again. 😊
Hi both, so happy i came across this video as im currently wanting to create my own for My Boxer conversion starting this year. Do you mind if i ask what depth, width etc rails you used? And if possible where you thought was best to pick them up from? Many thanks
@our.van.adventures thanks for the info! Just finished making homemade brackets for our relay, so we can proceed with the frame now! Thanks for your help
@@our.van.adventures do you have a link to the black spray paint you used please ? and was it water or oil cellulose based paint ? as i bought some paint from tool station advertised as metal primer only to find out it was water based and crap
Love that, such a simple straightforward solution for what I thought was going to be more complicated. Thanks guys!
Excellent vid. Looks far better than fabricating the brackets out of uni strut. Been playing on mind forever , this one....👍
Thanks, we were the same it is just a neater solution 👍🏼

Hi thanks for the comment the 90 brackets are just unistrut corner brackets

Hi guys, great videos. What length M8 bolts did you use on your UniStrut Rack please ?
Hi Trev think they were 25mm long 👍
@@our.van.adventures thank you, I ordered the Esty footings and set up the same roof rack system, absolutely perfect. Thanks again 👍🏻

They are still solid, would still recommend them 👍
Hi what l shape and t brackets did you use thanks
They are just the standard two hole per side brackets for the L and T’s and the solar panels are held on with single hole 90’s.
How much clearance do you have under your Unistrut in the centre of your roof at the highest point of the camber please ??
I will measure it on the weekend and get back to you 😀

Thank you! All of the Unistrut and parts were from direct channel, the corner ones are flat 90 degree plates and the centre ones are tee plates 👍

We used 40x20 Unistrut, we used 4m long ones for the sides and I think the cross bits were around 160cm 👍
@@our.van.adventures Thanks for the info!
@@our.van.adventures could I ask where you sourced the roof brackets from and what they are called
@@markcoates4887 they were from Etsy they are made by a company in turkey but they came within a week 👍

What dimension strut did you guys use. Great video BTW! 👍
Thanks we used 21x41 light duty to keep the weight down 👍
@@our.van.adventures thank you!!! 😁
Where do you get those brackets that go on to those mushrooms on the van and those lengths of tubing thanks
The brackets are linked in the description and the rest is just Unistrut.
Hi! Great video! Cab I ask, did you use 1.5mm or 2.5mm channel?
Hi Gav it is all 1.5 light duty to try and keep the weight down 👍

What effect on MPG did this setup have?
Not sure on the effect as we didn’t drive much before fitting it, but our camper fully loaded with the roof rack does about 27 mpg on average.
@@our.van.adventures that's amazing! I get like 15mpg on a full size roof rack...
What size panels did you guys use?
We used the 200w renogy ones 👍
@our.van.adventures thankyou!👍🏻
Hi Please could you let me know where you got the long black rails
They are 4m Unistrut channel from direct channel Uk, I then sprayed them black.
