I think the worst thing about this is that a show centered on grown up versions of the Powerpuff Girls isn't a bad idea in and of itself. It just that the CW took the idea in the most lazy, uninspired direction possible.
And the idea of using superheroes as a metaphor for child stars and show parents is also an interesting angle. But the script just seems so mean-spirited.
Thing is we already had that idea done better. Back in the day there was this MMO called Fusionfall that took place in a slightly more "grown up" rendition of a Cartoon Network shared universe. Among the NPC's in the game were teenage versions of the Powerpuff Girls. And honestly the games depiction of them was pretty good

The CW show script feels like it is made by Hollywood executives that don't know that kids live action shows like power rangers is popular. Meanwhile, Japan made a live action Sailor Moon show that is more mature while still catering to the show's intended audience of children and Sailor Moon fans. Toei also produced Powerpuff Girls Z.

I remember when the script leaked, I was convinced it had to be fake until they started copyright striking people sharing it, my thoughts were "oh no". I'm pretty sure the show was canceled due to the backlash, they realized there was no way to salvage this
I'm surprised they didn't make Henrietta Buttercup's obsessive rich ex girlfriend who desperately wanted to be married into the family so she can be claimed as the 4th Powerpuff Girl.
You’ve got your Cartoon Network show’s mixed up you meant princess Henrietta is the candy hunter who was friends then enemies then friends again with number 5 from codename kids next door
at least somebody ended making some slight balance to that with that fan film that I think came out a year or so after that movie came out. I was loosely familiar with the show via people in the Channel Awesome reviewer circles. But hadn't watched any myself. But I remember enjoying the fan film. I thought the Misfits looked kind of cool in the post credits of the 2015 movie. I don't think the rest of the movie will really be remembered. I think the only way that movie can be brought back up again is if somebody who was young when they saw it remembers it and kind of if going back through memories of their younger years and goes through it. Maybe seeing stuff they liked that made them happy or something and then maybe seeing stuff they didn't like and now see with slightly older eyes why certain parts might not've been good as they remember. And possibly after that maybe making one of those youtube essays on it for a particular topic or theme within that movie or maybe dissecting the movie and using parts they find to make potential memes or tikotok videos or something as far of some kind of Nostalgia cycle.
While I dislike the idea of Utonium being a show-dad since it's character assassination, the idea of using grown up former kid superheroes as a metaphor for the issues many child stars face and the problem with show-parents, over.merchandising and similar stuff is an interesting idea. I don't like it as a Powerpuff-girls adaptation though. And while I am tired of seeing "evil Superman", I think it would've been better if they went the Brightburn route instead of just using the IP of the PPG.But, sadly, studios don't dare to bet on anything that isn't an established IP. Also if the script was better because here they just seemed to tackle the subject very haphazardly.
This is the first time of me hearing what they were planning with the professor. Couldn't even have done a sports parent cliche instead- it wouldn't have been the professor we know and love, but at least him pushing them to be their best and not realizing he's pushing too hard would at least make more sense. I also didn't realize the girls were fifteen in the pilot. I thought they were college aged: starting to branch into their own people, exploring what they want to do in the future, etc. It's like they made the wrong choice for anything Powerpuff Girls related
@@skootergirl22 I think only Buttercup got a race swap. I know that's an issue for people, but I often don't mind so long as the writing is good enough to make it work or is just plan good
Is true. Bubbles and Buttercup's problems seem more logical for someone in his 20s that for a teenager... specially if they were going to have the same character flaws 10 years later. It would make more sense to have Bubble's alcoholism and Buttercup's chronic infidelity start as consequence of the villain's death, instead of being problems that were already taking a toll on the team when it happened
@@helenn6551Chloe Bennett is half Chinese... yes, the CW maed the smart one Asian, the angry one Black and left the dumb one White; because they're beyond lazy
I think the most interesting part about this was they seemed to be making it more “progressive” in the worst way. “We are making one of them black” “Oh, blossom?” “Of course not, she is the main character. We are doing the angry aggressive one.” “Well that sounds problematic.” “It’s ok, we have a lesbian.” “Who?” “The angry aggressive one.”
And if it was Blossom, it would be yet another ginger replaced by a black person. Bubbles is the only "safe" option out of the 3 if they really wanted to race swap one of them.
@@kou7191 Yeah. As I said earlier, I'm not against making one of the girls black, but it feels like they didn't really think it through. Making Buttercup the black one only reinforces the aggressive black woman stereotype.
I am completely against race, gender and sexuality swapping in any and all media. If you’re not gonna turn Storm or Black Panther white then you shouldn’t do it to the white characters. If you’re so fragile that they only way you can relate to characters is they’re a certain color then don’t watch it
The only faith I had in this project was with the casting especially Dove Cameron as Bubbles. But after I read the script, I realized even the most talented actors in the world couldn’t make this garbage work
@@Megafreakx3 When some fans caught wind of the script leak, they did damage control by making sure it never got out of development hell and that the pilot never saw the light of day...
Hell, this crossover with the series Worm did a better job mixing the PPGs with gritty stuff, man. It's called Town and Out in Brockton Bay or something, if you're interested in finding it.
The show would have worked as a high school drama if they actually sat down and crafted a good and interesting narrative. A Parallel narrative about the powerpuff girls in High school that have left their superhero days and want to be normal teenagers and are caught in a chain of events that push them back into being superheroes. It would have been an interesting balance and mix of superhero high school flick but this time the girls are trying to juggle a normal life with the superheroics.
Yeah, you know what, i'll would rather watch that than this. Like the idea of the Powerpuff Girls being high school students where they all just wanted to be normal teenagers as they must balancing their life as both superheroines and ordinary high school students would've been so interesting to see and be played with. Or heck, they could've have them be college students too, i guess.
Honestly the thing I was comparing this to in my mind would be the Venture Brothers via the whole "Child hero grows up traumatized and psychologically damaged from their constant adventures and battles and becomes a jaded asshole an adult" angle. Bubbles and Buttercup both having toxic stress relief habits and Blossom straight up having anxiety attacks gives hints of this potential. Thought it doesn't seem like they quite hit the parody nail on the head if that was what they were going for.
I'm just glad it's canceled. My version would be Bubbles is the sweet airhead popular with many friends, Blossom is the arrogant leader who believes she's always right, which causes tension in the sisterhood team Buttercup is the tomboy that believes she can super hero solo and doesn't need her sisters anymore
I find the premise of superheros as stand ins for traumatized child actors interesting. I think it would have worked better as its own franchise instead of an established IP.
It feels like someone deliberately leaked the script to save everyone from the catastrophe w/c is the live itself. Whoever you are, the people of townsville & the generation who grew up w/ ppg thank you.
I remember reading the script and to me, the most heinous part of it was when Ms. Bellum, who was supposed to be the girls' mother figure and the sole voice of reason in this show, heard the girls venting their trauma and telling her they would rather go to her with their problems because they trust her more than their own father, and then excused his abusive behavior and insisted, "No, he really does love you girls, I swear!" He raised three daughters who all grew up to be train wrecks, one of them is an alcoholic who pawned her engagement ring for freaking drug money, and one of them has literal PTSD at the thought of just going home, because he viewed his kids as a meal ticket instead of his children. He does not love them and Ms. Bellum of all people should have been able to see that.
I remember this, thank God it was cancelled. Probably would of killed the PPG's reputation. Also, didn't like the script throwing shade at the original cartoon. Hate to think what they would of done to "Him," or Fuzzy Lumpkins.
It's kinda like mature, r-rated films like RoboCop, the Toxic Avenger, Rambo and some others get adapting as friendly-family saturday morning cartoons while actually friendly-family cartoons like PowerPuff Girls, Scooby-Doo and some others got adapt as adult shows which are claim to be "mature", but is just made for shock value for the sack of shock value.
So basically if the Powerpuff Girls were the Umbrella Academy. I will admit, the Professor losing his money by investing in fidget spinners got a legit laugh out of me.
I mean, it really could have had a spark to it. Here’s how I would have done it: *First, the casting.* Blossom is played by a natural redhead (we need more of that representation these days for fuck’s sake), Bubbles is played by someone who looks like who they casted for this (not gonna lie, she looked perfect for Bubbles regardless of the shit), and Buttercup is played by someone whose ethnicity is Korean/Japanese/etc. The Professor is played by someone who’s Jewish, Ms. Bellum is played by someone with Irish heritage, Mr. Mayor’s played by a little person (don’t look at me like that, they need roles too), the preschool teacher I can never remember the name of is Latina, and multiple other roles are played by other diverse people, but they actually resemble the source. There’s even new characters to include other ethnicities that aren’t mentioned in what I’ve listed. *Next, the story.* The girls are in high school or their last year of middle school; pretty much an older age than in the cartoon, but not too old to call them ‘girls’. Pretty much an age where it’s not taking advantage of child actors since adults that look younger can be casted in teenager roles. After an incident happened years ago when they were younger, things went horribly wrong during a fight with one of the villains, which caused more casualties and destruction than the villain was causing on his/her own. This made the citizens rise up to force the girls to stop all hero work and they instead create their own elite force to combat the villains. They were hated so much that they had to change their own names and hair in order to not be recognized. At their home, however, they can be themselves and address each other by their actual names. They have to live somewhere else, however, because their own home was constantly being vandalized and The Professor feared for the girls’ already fragile mental health. Blossom feels like everything is her fault and constantly apologizes, even for minor things and things that genuinely aren’t things to apologize for. Bubbles has night terrors and sometimes cries in the middle of the night, as she has reoccurring nightmares of the incident. Buttercup is prone to fits of rage and gets extremely upset whenever someone even remotely repeats what they’re saying over and over. They live in a ramshackle house they all built together in the forest while their old house is routinely trashed despite them not living there anymore. The main reason why the house isn’t exactly the best is because the girls now seldom use their powers regularly out of fear that they would destroy something on accident. Yet despite their concerns, they still use their powers to protect The Professor whenever he’s in danger in the wilderness... Which is a lot since he’s not much of a woodsman. He’s not the only one that they protect either. Because they still have a drive to help people in need, they save others who get in trouble in the woods. However, they quickly fly away before the people they save can see them. (If anyone wants to see the rest, let me know! I don’t want this to be too long when nobody actually cares-)
For some reason which I can’t explain. I also imagined a live action Buttercup was Asian. Even as a kid. Aside from her black hair, I was raised up during times with stuff from Cartoon Network. Ben 10 and all the works. I’ve seen appearances of female Asian character types that look like cool punkish types. I forgot the name of this, but kind of similar to GoGo Tomago from the 2014 Big Hero 6 animated film. I think a few female characters from Older Power Rangers series fit this bill too. Too little me, these types always look so cool!
@NaquanGreen-zt4gr Oh, thanks! I actually went to town on making my own episode/fanfic after writing that. I’ll show you the first part of the episode I had in mind to replace the dumpster fire. *The first episode:* The girls are getting groceries and different supplies in a Target-like Superstore. The girls’ 16th birthday is coming up (the day of it being the first airing of the PPG cartoon, but not the year) and hints imply that they don’t make much money (“You can get a treat, but be sure not to get anything on brand, girls! Cheaper means we can get more for what we have!”). However, when they go off, The Professor sneaks away himself for something. Bubbles wanders over to the pastry area and sees a donut of her cartoon self, which she smiles at and is thinking about getting. However, a younger kid asks to get one first. When he’s given it and he takes a bite, Bubbles sees that it was filled to the brim with cherry jelly, which makes her eyes widen as she pieces together the intentions of it. Everything cuts to slow motion as there’s jelly on the kid’s face and there’s a close up of the large bite into the eye... Buttercup goes over to take a look in electrical appliance aisle after she chose her treat in order to pass the time (there’s a scream in the background, which is Bubbles, but Buttercup can’t really hear her due to the sound). When she goes by the TVs, it’s turned to a channel that’s a sort of talk show and in it, the host (which seems to resemble Him slightly, but not enough to make it completely obvious) and the guest are making really awful jabs at the Powerpuff Girls. The moment when they start talking about The Professor, however, she throws the nearest TV to the ground and completely destroys it with her strength... Right in front of some nerdy employees. One of them takes his walkie-talkie and is about to call security, but the other one just eases his hand down because they really don’t want to possibly die. Finally, Blossom was looking around in the clothes section when she heard Bubbles scream, then a loud crash. The series of events sounds to her like her sister is in trouble, so she starts to run to the direction of where the crash was... Only for someone to run right into her with a shopping cart with one of those toy cars on the front. This prompts Blossom to panic and start apologizing profusely... But unfortunately, it’s one of *those* people (“You brat! How dare you do that! Look at what you did! You hit my cart and made my baby scared!” as she points to a 5 year old kid, who’s still turning the wheel back and forth and doesn’t seem to give a shit). The Professor hears everything as he waits by the checkout area and sighs. Calmly, he pushes his own cart and begins to get the girls. He finds Buttercup first, who found a place to hide in one of the clothes racks in case security was called on her. Next, he finds Blossom still dealing with the screeching lady and points out that he’s finding his children, so she should work on finding hers rather than yelling at a teenager. The woman looks into the toy car to see that his kid just up and left during the confrontation. Last, he finds Bubbles, who was in the toy aisle and had surrounded herself with various stuffed animals. He kneels down, gives her a big hug, and starts putting away the toys. Finally, they all check out and go to their car (which looks pretty worse for wear) and they start to drive back to their house. Just before the girls start to apologize for making a scene, The Professor cuts them off and tells them that store didn’t need anymore money anyway, especially from a family with three perfect little girls. This statement makes Buttercup and Bubbles smile a little, but Blossom feels like it’s her fault that the mom lost sight of where her kid was and that she shouldn’t have been so rash. She then begins self deprecating herself, which makes The Professor look extremely concerned... Then after a few seconds, he gives the girls a goofy smile and tells them that while they were leaving, the four of them went through a time rift and that it was now their birthday! But it’ll only last for the rest of the day and after time goes back to normal tomorrow, their birthday will have already happened. The girls get that this is a really corny attempt at making them feel better about what happened, and they start to laugh and even Blossom starts to cheer up a little as everyone starts to play along. Once they get home, The Professor makes the cake (it’s not exactly baking show perfect, but it has that homey birthday feel to it) and serves each of them a slice. The birthday song is sung, and just when the girls think their birthday is complete, The Professor gives all three of them gifts that they genuinely are surprised to get. Bubbles gets a really nice sketchbook and some art supplies since she seems to be developing a love for art (Bob Ross poster optional). Buttercup gets a pair of rollerblades and a helmet since she never lost her tomboy spirit and is interested in derby skating along with other sports. Finally, Blossom gets books in advanced studies, as The Professor saw that she was interested in higher education (that’s the only thing that I’ll admit that the show got right about her adult self). The three can’t help but use their powers to fly into The Professor to give him a huge hug, telling him that he really didn’t have to give them gifts like these. The Professor, however, doubles down and says that everyone deserves to be what they want regardless of everything that happens. After this, they all have the time rift birthday party and the instance at not-Target is completely forgotten. *End of the first part of the episode!*
Not to mention that in the CW reboot, Professor Utonium isn't a good dad like how he was in the 1998 classic series. After hearing Blockbuster Buster describe the CW reboot script, Professor Utonium really should take notes from Fred Flintstone on how to be a good father.
@TheBlockbusterBuster Can you do a video on the legend about the Orsen Wells passion film based on the old school (and my number 1 superhero) superhero that inspired Batman, THE SHADOW. I know that this film was something that Orsen (who happened to be one of The Shadow's voice actors on the Radio show of the character) was to star in this film and everything was all ready to go but suddenly it got canned or perhaps the legend of how we almost got an The Shadow animated series but suddenly it too got canceled?
"Powerpuff" was the CW's failed attempt at a live-action adult reimagining of the hit Cartoon Network animated series, "The Powerpuff Girls", which was originally created by Craig McCracken!
If this was their convoluted approach to Mojo Jojo, or the Rowdyruff Boys, then it really makes you wonder how far this show would have gone with a villain like Him.
I honestly don't even understand why they would need to make the Rowdy Ruff Boys normal guys. Mojo creating them to replicate the creation of the Powerpuff Girls, but then not being able to control them seems like it would fit well into this setting still. They could even have them retire and start a bar together to reflect how they handled being super powered children differently than the girls going in a "the heroes grew up traumatized but the villains learned from their past mistakes and grew up mentally healthy" angle.
Best guess: He would have been a misunderstood villain who was rejected by society because he was gay or transgender and it was ‘society’ and ‘straight men’ who were to blame.
All they have to do to make the CW and Hollywood profitable is blacklist the writers of these terrible shows and movies and give more opportunities to the writers who make successful properties. You know, base everything on merit. We'll get rid of all these "daddy issues" writers and start getting shows and movies without obvious self-inserts.
Powerpuff girls show could've worked especially in a dark light if it was still in the spirit of the og show. Even riverdale is different from archie comics yet at least it has the excuse of being adapted in different lights in the comics.
Have Toei make a japanese live action Powerpuff Girls. For some reason, network executives don't know that live action hero shows for kids are a thing. They made a Sailor Moon tokusatsu show and it is basically a fun girl show but with live action drama elements that make the story and characters interesting without having to desperately placate to gross adults.
Erod, you should at one point cover Sony's original plans for the Amazing Spider-Man film universe. Sinister Six, Amazing Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man vs Amazing Spider-Man, and even Aunt May movies were all planned.

The 2016 Power Puff Girls wasn't the first reboot, that honor goes to Power Puff Girls Z. It was an anime reboot way back in 2006 that was sorta supported by WB which had some representation in the than CN MMO Fusion Fall but it was sadly never released in the US.
What REALLY annoyed me about this whole thing is that the idea of telling a story where the girls are grown up and navigating adulthood is actually not a bad idea. It could be really interesting, just Powerpuff decided to try and do it in the WORST way possible. There are few kernels of good ideas here, the girls no longer being heroes, having moved on with their lives, maybe because superheroes just weren't needed anymore, Blossom working at a science lab, going to Miss Bellum for advice as she was one of the few female role models the girls had (I think just her and their teacher) and Buttercup having relationship/commitment issues are great ideas and have good potential for story and character arcs there. But the making it edgy/gritty is where EVERYTHING falls apart. Just off the top of my head, some ideas as to how this could have been better: 1. Instead of washed up child celebrity, Bubbles is still the happy, upbeat, person she was. Maybe working for some charity organization that helps animals, as loving the cute little critters was a big thing with her 2. Professor should have been the 100% loving, caring, and supportive father he always was and its his birthday or something that brings the girls back home. Or, if you want to do something with a bit more mystery to it, he goes missing and the girls come home to find there dad. 3. Sure the new mayor secretly being a villain works, I like that idea. Don't make him Mojo's son, make him a minion of Mojo, one who is being controlled from the shadows. Circle back to previous point, he is the one who kidnapped the professor, maybe to try and have him create new powered people loyal to Mojo, or to bring the girls back because of some other evil plot 4. Make it animated! While I have no issue with a live action version in general, making it an animated series is better, as lets be honest, a live action Mojo, or Gangrene Gang, or Him, would would look kinda silly in live action.
Honestly, I'm glad that the CW reboot got canceled. The Powerpuff Girls SHOULD be wholesome, clean, & suitable for all ages to watch, which is EXACTLY what the 1998 classic series is, just like The Flintstones.
I'm relived this didn't happen. But I kind of have morbid curiosity for what it looked like. When I heard this was first announced ages ago i was way more optimistic and wanted to give the creators a chance. But as stuff was trickling out in small bits I kind of found a lot of what they were saying about it really hard to believe becasue it was so dumb and going the complete wrong direction. Like the image of some people online described as their Party City type dresses. In my mind I assumed those weren't their official outfits becasue those were costumes they were wearing to a costume party or something. And their actual outfits would show up later in the episode and would make a little more sense and be better looking...at least in a CW sense of better. I really wanted this to work. It's too bad this came out so badly.
I know people that were certain it wasn't "that bad." Remember how they wanted to NUKE that script from the world. Lets just say some cursed items never die and are still spread. Now they do believe just how bad it can get.
I would rather watch Adrienne Palicki as a murderous dominatrix with a red, white, and blue color scheme a second time than ever see the CW Powerpuff Girls. Or that Tom Swift that i didn't know until now even existed.
This might lead to something far worse. An adultified Totally Spies. Since the shows both have similar heroes, an auburn haired leader and strategist (Blossom and Sam), a blonde haired girly girl (Bubbles and Clover), and a dark haired tomboy (Buttercup and Alex). Maybe replacing the Mojo character with Terrence and have him changed to a fellow scientist with his twin brother, Jerry, make the creator of the insects Mandy, and make Tim Scam the Republican mayor of Beverly Hills. And people say that Totally Spies was a fetish fuel show (A claim that's pretty dubious at best considering that most of the examples are just weird coincidences.), imagine a live action show based on it that actually has content that is completely unsuitable for children, has the characters become bastardized, and feels like a Ren & Simply Adult Party Cartoon style reboot of a mostly light-hearted show. I just hope that Warner Bros. doesn't attempt rework this dropped pilot into something like that.
Not everything needs to have a gritty reboot we have stuff like like the Austin power movie Kamen Rider 555 and the James Bond movies in the Daniel Craig's stuff and John wick
I remember hearing about this and seeing the images/short video clips leaked and yeah, it had "this sucks" written all over it. Never heard about the leaked script but DAMN!!!! Further proof that "Drake" is a name used for hacks.
There's elements of this I will say I like but ask "Why in the hell is this connected to the original property?". I mean the idea of commenting on how ludicrous the success and marketing of the original show was via having the father be a show-dad? Sounds interesting. The problem to me seems to be that they chose to edge-up the original show instead of creating their own property.
This is probably the fastest I've seen a legends of fandoms video. Not seeing a video getting posted mind you, just seeing this topic on here being talked about.
The only question I have is if the mayor had access to mind controlling bugs, why didn't he just make the people vote for him instead of staging a riot?
It's like they tried to make another Riverdale, taking a kids story and making it edgy. But people don't watch Riverdale for the edgy update, they do it because you never know what wild bullshit (rocketeer cult leaders, serial killer genes, defeating the devil with a milkshake made with the tears of the Virgin Mary) the writers are gonna come up with next. And yeah, "mature" is the wrong word. This feels like a teenager's first dark fic where they throw in things they know are "adult" (alcoholism, sex, drugs) but with zero understanding or ability to handle those themes.
If ERod is looking for recommendations for future Legends of Fandom episodes, I suggest he go into detail on the originally planned sequels to Zack Snyder's Justice League. With The Flash now bringing the DCEU to a close this year, it seems like the ideal time to do it.
Eventually, if they ever make another live action powerpuff Girls theme, I would want to stay realistic, but true to the first original series, not the 2016 reboot. My fan cast for the mayor is Danny DeVito
Velma is a terrible adult parody of Scooby-Doo, but this Powerpuff script sounds even worse. But at least this idea was shut down and cancelled, but Velma sadly is gonna have a second season.
Yes because getting a bunch of creepy crawleys close to teenage girls much less close enough to penetrate their ears and control their brains works just as well as lighting fire crackers under water, Also weren't there 2 episodes of the animated show that depicts Bubbles' fear of insects?
They were going to make Mojo jojo a black guy. IF you don't know in the Cartoon Mojo jojo was a literal monkey. Do I need to say what is wrong with this ?
When I watch these, I can't help thinking about things where we did get something that can be viewed, though usually only because it was leaked. I'm thinking things like the pilots for Generation X, Power Pack, and three different Wonder Woman shows ("Who's Afraid of Diana Prince?", the 1974 pilot with Cathy Lee Crosby, and the 2011 pilot with Adrianne Palicki).
You know that this show could’ve worked had it not used the power puff girls name. It could’ve been three artificially created girls who have superpowers and went the Boys tv show territory.
Tbh I'm glad this show is gone; because in this timeline we've got another powerpuff girls cartoon tv series being worked on by the creator himself! No evidence on the series as of now beyond word of mouth, but it's far FAR more hopeful considering this live-action series is cancelled and the 2016 series won't be the last powerpuff girls series we see. I'd be even more excited if dexter's lab joined in, but I get why genndy didn't want to make "yet another remake" of the show. Still I should count my blessings, a new powerpuff girls series! Plus a pre-school targetted foster's home! Oh and a new futurama series and Genndy made his "Unicorn : Warriors Eternal" so it's far better than the era of CNReel . *shivvers in disgust*

I remember when the script leaked, I was convinced it had to be fake until they started copyright striking people sharing it, my thoughts were "oh no". I'm pretty sure the show was canceled due to the backlash, they realized there was no way to salvage this
It was actually only officially canned post cw being sold
I'm surprised they didn't make Henrietta Buttercup's obsessive rich ex girlfriend who desperately wanted to be married into the family so she can be claimed as the 4th Powerpuff Girl.
I think you mean Princess Morbucks
You’ve got your Cartoon Network show’s mixed up you meant princess Henrietta is the candy hunter who was friends then enemies then friends again with number 5 from codename kids next door
You have to admit, it's a deep cut for a mistake.
If this actually did get made, if would have been up there with Jem and the holograms (2015) as one of they worst adaptations ever made.
I didn't hate that movie, it just shouldn't have been called Jem and the Holograms.
at least somebody ended making some slight balance to that with that fan film that I think came out a year or so after that movie came out.
Albeit as many comments have already pointed out, it’s already been done it’s called the Venture Bros
This not only give Mindy's Velma a run for her money, but also twerking at the haters with She-Hulk right about now In comparison to this!
Oh god Don't mention the twerking from She hulk episode 3.
We're they also race changing as well?
Why the hell are they 15?!?!?!?!?!?!
“We are making one of them black”
“Oh, blossom?”
“Of course not, she is the main character. We are doing the angry aggressive one.”
“Well that sounds problematic.”
“It’s ok, we have a lesbian.”
“Who?”
“The angry aggressive one.”
Yeah. I'm not against making one of the girls black or a lesbian, but why did they choose the most aggressive one to be the black one?
And if it was Blossom, it would be yet another ginger replaced by a black person. Bubbles is the only "safe" option out of the 3 if they really wanted to race swap one of them.
@@kou7191 Yeah. As I said earlier, I'm not against making one of the girls black, but it feels like they didn't really think it through. Making Buttercup the black one only reinforces the aggressive black woman stereotype.
@@benbarnett5743why do you think?
I am completely against race, gender and sexuality swapping in any and all media. If you’re not gonna turn Storm or Black Panther white then you shouldn’t do it to the white characters. If you’re so fragile that they only way you can relate to characters is they’re a certain color then don’t watch it
The only faith I had in this project was with the casting especially Dove Cameron as Bubbles. But after I read the script, I realized even the most talented actors in the world couldn’t make this garbage work
Hey, Chloe Bennet as Blossom was great casting, too!
Yea, I'm sure she would enjoy playing bubbles
And I’m sure the actress chosen for Buttercup would’ve done service
She'll be doing her best with a trash screenplay that makes her character look so dumb and nothing like the animated character at all.
Dude, it's Dove Cameron.
I'll take Tommy Wissou over her.
My three childhood favorites in a CW filter? Boy am i glad they canned this before it became a dumpster fire
it was a dumpster fire when the script was leaked, tbh
@@Megafreakx3 When some fans caught wind of the script leak, they did damage control by making sure it never got out of development hell and that the pilot never saw the light of day...
The less said of this show the better just give us something in line with the original series and I'm good.
I'm still wondering why they thought they could do a better job than Venture Bros. Or The Umbrella Academy.
Hell, this crossover with the series Worm did a better job mixing the PPGs with gritty stuff, man. It's called Town and Out in Brockton Bay or something, if you're interested in finding it.
Narcism and greed
Umbrella Academy became woke garbage.
At least the creators The Venture Brothers like what the show jokes about.
@@louisduarte8763 I know. They deconstruct and joke about everything but there's a lot of fun and heart to it. Really hope they get to do that movie.
I’d watch that
So glad to see this mess done and dusted and stuff like Nimona escaping the same fate.
Since Craig McCracken also plans to revive the original PPG series, I’d like to see The Powerpuff Girls settle the score with The Rowdyruff Boys.
Bro in My humble opinion the rowdyruff boys got hoed twice by some Bullshit
Honestly the thing I was comparing this to in my mind would be the Venture Brothers via the whole "Child hero grows up traumatized and psychologically damaged from their constant adventures and battles and becomes a jaded asshole an adult" angle. Bubbles and Buttercup both having toxic stress relief habits and Blossom straight up having anxiety attacks gives hints of this potential. Thought it doesn't seem like they quite hit the parody nail on the head if that was what they were going for.
Agreed. Lord knows something like Venture Bros is like surgery but CW's Powerpuff Girls would've used a baseball bat or a jackhammer as their tools.
Johnny quest much.
@@Dim4323 I am not sure I understand your comment. Did you think I was unaware that the Venture Bros. parodies Johnny Quest?
Velma had the same situation
@@skootergirl22 And it was made by people who hate cartoons in general based on how much they pretty much bit the hand that feeds too many times.
I knew this script was bad, but I didn’t except it to be so…tomalley incorherent
Bellum, who was supposed to be the girls' mother figure and the sole voice of reason in this show, heard the girls venting their trauma and telling her they would rather go to her with their problems because they trust her more than their own father, and then excused his abusive behavior and insisted, "No, he really does love you girls, I swear!"
He raised three daughters who all grew up to be train wrecks, one of them is an alcoholic who pawned her engagement ring for freaking drug money, and one of them has literal PTSD at the thought of just going home, because he viewed his kids as a meal ticket instead of his children. He does not love them and Ms. Bellum of all people should have been able to see that.

how so?
That quote becomes more true every day
I remember this, thank God it was cancelled.
Here’s how I would have done it:
*First, the casting.*
Blossom is played by a natural redhead (we need more of that representation these days for fuck’s sake), Bubbles is played by someone who looks like who they casted for this (not gonna lie, she looked perfect for Bubbles regardless of the shit), and Buttercup is played by someone whose ethnicity is Korean/Japanese/etc.
*Next, the story.*
The girls are in high school
or their last year of middle school; pretty much an older age than in the cartoon, but not too old to call them ‘girls’.
Ha.. elite force.
I'd rather watch that terrible show over this in a world where it came out
@MetaGiga
I would like to hear more of your ideas.
@MetaGiga
Your idea sounds good.
@NaquanGreen-zt4gr Oh, thanks! I actually went to town on making my own episode/fanfic after writing that. I’ll show you the first part of the episode I had in mind to replace the dumpster fire.
*The first episode:*
The girls are getting groceries and different supplies in a Target-like Superstore.
At first I had hopes for this Powerpuff Girls reboot, then you show me how much of stab on the heart this is.
Not to mention that in the CW reboot, Professor Utonium isn't a good dad like how he was in the 1998 classic series. After hearing Blockbuster Buster describe the CW reboot script, Professor Utonium really should take notes from Fred Flintstone on how to be a good father.
If HBO had done it I would been happy but not cw or Netflix
The 1998 classic series is right up there with The Flintstones as 1 of Hanna-Barbera's BEST shows.
Thanks Google
We know,Brian stringham. The video is right there. You don’t have to emphasize it.
Yea the reboot wasn't directed by him even the anime had him involved
Placeholder comment: Good thing everyone involved has already moved to other projects. Yes, I'm very relieved this thing didn't happen.
Also, if they're going to have Bubbles flirt with one of them, wouldn't it make more sense for it to be Boomer instead of Butch?
Best guess: He would have been a misunderstood villain who was rejected by society because he was gay or transgender and it was ‘society’ and ‘straight men’ who were to blame.
Powerpuff always sounded like it was a project that had a few nuggets of potential, but all that was ignored by people who didn't understand the show.
I always assumed they got the darker tone from Archie Horror.
Wow I wasn't ready for that. If they ever make a live action version, they need to team up with the OGs to come up with a middle ground.
@heroicgangster9981 I have seen the live action version of Sailor Moon. Yeah, it was cheesy, but that was the whole point.
Bonus points for the Tick reference.
Erod, you should at one point cover Sony's original plans for the Amazing Spider-Man film universe. Sinister Six, Amazing Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man vs Amazing Spider-Man, and even Aunt May movies were all planned.
"Aunt May Movies" for real? I like that character, but a whole movie?
@@gruthakhul100 rumors said that it was only 1 film uncovering her past as a spy, sally fields denied these rumors saying something like "what? Aunt may movie? no, that would be crazy, no one ever said anything about an aunt may film"

The most tragic part? It was written by Oscar-winning Juno scribe Diablo Cody... :(
The 2016 Power Puff Girls wasn't the first reboot, that honor goes to Power Puff Girls Z. It was an anime reboot way back in 2006 that was sorta supported by WB which had some representation in the than CN MMO Fusion Fall but it was sadly never released in the US.
The Writer did all the P-Girls dirty, but seems like they REALLY hated Bubbles for some reason, lol. 😅
Definitely should’ve started them off as actual teenagers not the overly sexualized teenagers but actually teens to pick up where the carton left off
1:29-1:33 didn’t TMNT 2003 have more than six seasons too?
Extremely relieved that it didn't happen, but very glad to hear your take on it!
Anyone else feel like buttercup's characteristics felt very stereotype 😅
Nah I literally got that from the moment he said “Sex addicted lesbian”
Just off the top of my head, some ideas as to how this could have been better:
1. Instead of washed up child celebrity, Bubbles is still the happy, upbeat, person she was. Maybe working for some charity organization that helps animals, as loving the cute little critters was a big thing with her
Circle back to previous point, he is the one who kidnapped the professor, maybe to try and have him create new powered people loyal to Mojo, or to bring the girls back because of some other evil plot
4. Make it animated! While I have no issue with a live action version in general, making it an animated series is better, as lets be honest, a live action Mojo, or Gangrene Gang, or Him, would would look kinda silly in live action.
And once again, fans can come up with better ideas than Hollywood.. .
@@juliagoodwin9510 Aww, thank you.
Honestly, I'm glad that the CW reboot got canceled. The Powerpuff Girls SHOULD be wholesome, clean, & suitable for all ages to watch, which is EXACTLY what the 1998 classic series is, just like The Flintstones.
Please do Wolfgang Petersen’s Batman vs Superman from 2002-2004. The script has leaked so you can check it out
We dodged the reboot bullet on that one
I know people that were certain it wasn't "that bad."
Remember how they wanted to NUKE that script from the world. Lets just say some cursed items never die and are still spread.
Now they do believe just how bad it can get.
I could totally imagine had this show happened Madelaine Petsch would’ve been cast to play Princess Morbucks because of her work on Riverdale
I admit as the person who requested this particular legend of fandom; I would be been bile fascinated by this destined trainwreck
This will become Lost Media for good..................until someone tries to revive it afew Years Later
haven’t looked this up in a while but id love to find out that there’s an unaired pilot out there that has been leaked.
Thank goodness the fandom stopped this from happening.
So glad that series never happened and a big thanks to whoever leaked the script.
I would rather watch Adrienne Palicki as a murderous dominatrix with a red, white, and blue color scheme a second time than ever see the CW Powerpuff Girls. Or that Tom Swift that i didn't know until now even existed.
I kind of want to see where it would have gone
I hope the duo that proudly worked on the script learn from their mistakes
I was dead on staring to just the thumbnail until the memories came back, glad we are living in the good timeline where this show just quietly died.
It will be another generic secret agent show
I'd watch a fetish of totally spies tbh
I remember hearing about this and seeing the images/short video clips leaked and yeah, it had "this sucks" written all over it. Never heard about the leaked script but DAMN!!!! Further proof that "Drake" is a name used for hacks.
I still remember when the script for this thing leaked 2 years ago 😂
Does anyone remember "The PowerSlut Girls" sketch from MAD TV? This show would've basically been that and then some. 😂
I didn't realize there was so much to this pilot i just remember the oft quoted line "blossom wake up or ill release your nudes"
PPGZ was the last Powerpuff show, there hasn't been anything else, NONE
This is probably the fastest I've seen a legends of fandoms video. Not seeing a video getting posted mind you, just seeing this topic on here being talked about.
First Loud House, Fairly Odd Parents and now this?!?
What's next? *A live action Adventure Time and Regular Show?!?*
10:19 Was that a teaser of things to come? If not, we need more awful scripts like this to get the Blockbuster Buster out of retirement! :D
This one thing I was wondering on your next Legend of Fandom what was the script and the premise with Jack Black as the Green Lantern?
I was the one who suggested it in email and I can’t wait!!!!
1:40 We just gonna forget the anime being a thing?
the anime was good, the live action wasn't
Im happy that it got cancelled, however I REALLY want to watch the shot pilot. Somebody leak it!
Do David S Goyer’s flash movie next please
If ERod is looking for recommendations for future Legends of Fandom episodes, I suggest he go into detail on the originally planned sequels to Zack Snyder's Justice League. With The Flash now bringing the DCEU to a close this year, it seems like the ideal time to do it.
I'm glad to know this shit was canceled. Cause that show was a slap in the face both the creators and the fans.
I wouldn't mind a show regarding a coming of age story of the PPF girls and if its done well it wouldn't be so bad.
Not only is the script inept but the writing itself. A quick summary does not reveal the full cringe.
But yea, great vid. I dig the extra context.
So it’s safe to say what ever was filmed of this show is lost media lol
This was so close to happening too! Its like hearing about the cuban missile crisis for the first time.
Eventually, if they ever make another live action powerpuff Girls theme, I would want to stay realistic, but true to the first original series, not the 2016 reboot.
My fan cast for the mayor is Danny DeVito
Atleast the fandubs of this pilot tearing it apart, making more inapropirote jokes between the already awful jokes
Are some priceless content
Velma is a terrible adult parody of Scooby-Doo, but this Powerpuff script sounds even worse. But at least this idea was shut down and cancelled, but Velma sadly is gonna have a second season.
I blame the hate-watchers.
Make a video on John Carpenter's the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake that was planned in the early 90's.
I loved this video. I think you could take ur content to the next level by making the audio less echoey
Yeaahhh this script has lots of sick stereotypes
When I watch these, I can't help thinking about things where we did get something that can be viewed, though usually only because it was leaked. I'm thinking things like the pilots for Generation X, Power Pack, and three different Wonder Woman shows ("Who's Afraid of Diana Prince?", the 1974 pilot with Cathy Lee Crosby, and the 2011 pilot with Adrianne Palicki).
You know that this show could’ve worked had it not used the power puff girls name. It could’ve been three artificially created girls who have superpowers and went the Boys tv show territory.
I really wanted to see it even tho it got canceled 😮
The MadTV sketches (from both the FOX and CN series) parodying the show was a much better take on the concept.
