Pep, you have such a gift with words. Your description of Wood Cut was incredible. I've wondered for some time now what you do professionally largely because of your amazing way with words. Always beyond impressive.
I've been diving into this house the last couple months and I've been thoroughly impressed for the most part... I have Night Flyer and it's a love. I have and love Cafe V and Bay Rum. I found the Blackbird nicer then you did lol... Ellen Covey has made a fan out of me. Ill certainly be looking further into the house. Thanks for this feature Pep. Its deserved ✌
Yes! Loved Dev 2 but my favorite was Dev 1. Starts a little bubblegummy with the resins but turns smoky and animalic on me. Like a dark presence looming over the sweetness. Liking this review format, Pep!
I love The Dev series too! My favorites are Dev 1 and Dev 4 but I do also love Dev 2, I bought full bottles of those three. They all make me think of catacombs under a castle that houses ancient scrolls, snuffed candles, incense, and redolent ingredients for magic potions.
@@Action_Slacks lovely, right? For someone who could not and has no plans of acquiring Sahara Noir, they say Dev 4 is not so far off. Overall, they keep me from buying more gothic-themed scents so my wallet loves them 😂
I really enjoy Olympic Orchids, have tried a few, love dev 4 has a pretty straight forward labdanum incense bomb (very dark), dev 1 also love it, ballets rouge a stunning full on red rose with chypre nuances, woodcut I also really like reminds me of arso by profumum roma but more wearable (but indeed is a bit too focused on oak and doesn't change much, but I do love oak so I don't mind much), tropical of capricorn is also pretty good, olympic rainforest a beautiful woody green foresty smell. Definitely a house I want to discover more, one thing I do notice is they change a lot in the first 15min then they have a very slow progression almost linear (not a bad thing just a remark)
My favorites from Olympic Orchids are Bat/Night Flyer, Dev 1, 2, and 4, Red Cattleya, and Olympic Amber. Olympic Amber has that fresh cut wood smell, a la Woodcut, but then melts into a sweet, resinous amber.
Love Nightflyer-tropical drink in a cave. I find that the cave balances the sweet fruit and makes it refreshing and cooling. Interesting is that Woodcut to me was like freshly cut trees when you go to woods and trees have just been cut down. Love the smell but would prefer my house smelled like that, not me. Blackbird was like cough sweets on me. Salamanca I also did not enjoy. Vert was very green and did not work on my skin. I also tried Golden Catleya (old fashioned kind of floral boudoir), African Orchid (sweet floral heady) and Tropics of Capricorn was also floral heady, did not last as long on me. I also had DEV 1 I think (was not 2) which was interesting but did not say buy me. The Nightflyer was a clear winner and one I bought.
Hi Pep I have a few from this house ,blind buys but I gotta say I like what I got big time.Tropic of Capricorn is a beautiful scent,Golden Cattleya is awesome,Dev 1 also great and yeah I did go for based on notes Salamanca ,yep on first sniffs it was a ohh Christ moment, however after going back and forth over a long period of time I find myself wearing it on alone time and kinda into it in a weird Lalique encre noir with a vengeance, sort of vibe after a day working on leather tanning and creosote fence painting haha and on the public transportation home people give ya dagger looks and move seats still I like this weird smell what can I say oh yeah never wear it in public folks you will be shunned for sure a great social distancing scent in these troubled times 👍
I love Dev 2 and Olympic Amber (which I find more woody than ambery) and love and own Mardi Gras because I just had to, as I love the concept behind it. Such a beautiful composition that develops for hours... and some days I smell more honey, some other days I smell corn, maybe sometimes incense, and always a lot of civet... It never gets boring 😜I also find Tropic of Capricorn very beautiful but way too challenging.
I have nightflyer , and I do need to try the rest of the line but I've also got Carosello and Mardi gras. I could see you falling for Mardi gras the way I did 😍 it's utterly divine
Blackbird doesnt work on me either, it gets animalic, but I've smelled it on another person & its great. I've got Woodcut and just know what you mean about one note, theres some subtle weed like facets lurking in there to & burned sugar, I love it because it like a wood working room for me, lots of fresh chopped woods. Nightflyer is my winner though! Have the Dev series samples to, I like 1,2 & 4 the best theres a 5th called Lil which is another character from the book that series is based on.
Yup, Blackbird . Well, at least you didn't blind buy a bottle like I did. Didn't like Woodcut . Everyone loves it . Not me. I'm at a lumber shop. No thanks . Her Olympic Amber must have been created right after Woodcut. It's wood , and it's strong. Takes awhile before I like it. I've sample others .Dev 2 was nice , but her chocolates and coffee are nice. I took out some sample boxes recently , and Olympic Orchid's is in one of them. One coffee that is in that box is Sebastian's Espresso . I'm mentioning it because I got samples at half off, plus a bottle for $40. Not bad. I used to mix Olympics chocolate and coffee with Sebastian's . Same box as Olympics I see a sample from DSH . Chataigines du Bois. Nutty woody. i don't need to own it, but she has one, I don't remember it now, II would have to go back into my account to see if it still shows as a purchase, but yes. I was surprised by it. It didn't feel like an indie . It was more like ultra nice . Smooth with floral depth. Oh, here's Just Filthy by Dame. I like it . Not sure if anyone else around me would. Oh , I wish I had bought a bottle of Monsieur Musk by Houbigant before Dana Holdings took it over. I only have a sample of it. It's in one of the boxes. Nice 70's soap on a rope smell . I remember loving them when I was a kid in the latter 70's Oh, Dames has a leather one that has that appeal . Monsieur Musk is better though. Here's Swiss Arabian's The Orient oil. Umm, woody with a murky floral in the opening . Takes too long for the sweet side . Just got some samples fro So Advant Garde . Three Nishane's .B-612 is nice . Wish it projected longer. I got a 30% off code . Just might. I have way waayyy to many samples .Going to be doing a USA giveaway soon on Basenotes. Not going to try and sell them. I've got bottles I'm going to giveaway to. I can't really sell them . I'd be mad if I bought them. Christ I have over 50 samples from Swiss Arabian I haven't even opened yet. I got them over a year ago. The Olympics etc are from 2015 . Anyway, thanks for the review.
Great 📹 and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and the rest of the house and have a blessed day

Oops, I meant Norma Kamali Incense, not Sahara Noir! Getting my discontinued ambers mixed up. Good day to you!
I love Dev 2. I cannot wait to sample more from the house.
Awesome review. Thanks
Thanks Pep! This was helpful!

I prefer multiple reviews in a single video, thanks.
