How to adjust drum brakes

  • Quick and easy way to adjust your drum brakes. If you have a different philosophy, let me know in the comment section
    1)you want to adjust the shoes outward as much as possible as to make contact with the drums
    2) then you want to retract the shoes 3 to 4 clicks and test fit the drums again.
    Repeat the process until you’re satisfied with the contact point

    There's a small hole behind the drum that access the adjuster with a pic screwdriver works pretty good if u don't want to completely take them apart

    Adjust the star adjuster with a brake spoon thru the hole in the back plate or do a series of hard stop in reverse if applicable.

  • @MrLaydownsally
    @MrLaydownsally 28 дней назад +1

    1) slacken handbrake
    2) adjust both drums until just dragging , then back off one complete turn each time
    3) drums back on then press brake pedal 10 times
    4) adjust hand brake cable to 5 clicks to lock the rear wheels.
    I thank you , peace and love ❤

    They're self adjusting, you can literally just pump the brakes a bunch till its tight. They're designed to automatically adjust outward to account for pad wear

      That's awesome! I've noticed that backing off 3 clicks works on my cars but I'm sure that all depends on the run outs on brake components. It's kinda like "season to taste" so adjust until you like the braking point.

    Hey do you happen to know if when installing new shoes the turns for adjusting are the same on each axle or for example right wheel adjust with 4 turns and left wheel with 2 turns?

    • @thecarchak
      @thecarchak  11 месяцев назад +3

      No, it should be the same amount unless the shoes are wearing unevenly. back the adjuster all the way in (fully retracted) then put the rotor on. Then expand the adjuster out until it touches the inner walls of the rotor, at this point you should not be able to spin the rotor (make sure both wheels are off the ground if you're working on a rear wheel drive car). Now back the adjuster about 3 turns/click and should should be able to spin the rotor again.

    Just an FYI for all you dump mechanic workshop owners lol.
    At my workshop we don't resurface brakes disc Rotors wanna know why mate?
    Because one they're a big waste of time and takes too much time to lath the surface I'm talking about hours and that's your car hoist that you're wasting for a bigger job that actually makes you money mate.
    Why pay $50 to resurface a fked up disc Rotors when i can buy a cheap brand new one for $60 and put it on take the customers money and they can be on their way so i can start working on the next car waiting in line mate ain't nobody got time for that waiting 2 hours to resurface and Lath Machine a Disc Rotors lmao buy that time i would have serviced 5 cars already and made more money than a $50 dollars 2 hours resurface jobs man you people & your managers don't know how to run a proper buisness buddy time is money 🤦‍♂️🙄

      Well *mate* over here in the US, many automotive repair shops have moved away from turning disc rotors and drum rotors because for 1 it's a liability thing and 2 it takes too much time, so yeah we already have the "time is money" figured out. Lmao. We've had it figured out for 260 years since we are the biggest country that runs and is built off of capitalism. Lmao. Man's forgetting that we separated from Great Britain and we took that "time is money" concept along with us to this great continent when we got fed up with King George III and his fvcking tyranny called "Royalty" Lmao. That and we were tired of drinking your tea and getting crooked teeth. Lmao.😂🙄🤦‍♂️
