  • Narrated and executive produced by Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris and directed by Andrew Jenks, BILLION DOLLAR BABIES is a feature-length documentary that captures the incredible true story of the Cabbage Patch Kids, leaving nothing untouched, including the fundamental dispute over who originated the idea. From the marketing genius of the “hospital” in an idyllic North Georgian town where children “adopted” the dolls and solemnly pledged to love and care for them, to the subsequent business deal that gave rise to utter retail pandemonium, the film takes viewers on the wild ride through the Cabbage Patch Kids’ highs, lows and undeniable legacy.
    Coming to Theaters Black Friday.

This should have been a Netflix or Prime release. Literally NOONE is going to pay to watch this in a Theater.

Legit looks good. I remember the madness, even though I was a kid then.

I totally missed the opportunity to watch this documentary movie. Is there any chance it will go on other streaming platforms? My mom got me 3 cpk total & I still have them. She also bought me a 25th anniversary doll - the last gift she gave me before she died.

I remember it was the marketing campaign that drove consumers crazy. The pretense was that there were “No two alike”, which I always thought a little suspicious being that the face of every doll was the exact same mold, so the only variables they had to play with were skin tone, hair style, hair color, and eye color. It had to be a fraud.

Parenting gone wrong. If a child didn’t feel loved without a Cabbage Patch Kid, there’s something wrong with the parenting.

How do we know if our picture we sent in will be in the end credits? Would we have gotten an email saying it was chosen? I just got the ‘thank you for sharing’ on the website.

I was a little kid back then and I always thought they were stupid. I never wanted one.

The film, true to the doll it portrays, is only playing in a very select few locations. I wonder if there will be lineups and riots for people trying to secure tickets? ;)

Flamingo I think the Cabbage Patch Phenomenon of the 1983 Christmas 🎄 Season basically started the current “Black Friday” tradition we have 40 plus years later. While you are correct that “BF” goes back to the mid 19th Century, the CBP mania began the modern era of Department Stores, Shopping Malls, & also in recent years online through (Amazon, etc) being an event on the day after Thanksgiving in America since 1983.
