Vinny not going to the joustus house to play the card game tutorial, and then trying to figure out what to do was so funny to me. Especially after watching others videos on the game
I'm sure if they tried to make a 64 style game it wouldn't have the jank, I mean the point of Shovel Knight was that it's way more polished then any NES game
Yes, thank you. I was waiting for Vinny to justify the possibility of a Shovel Knight 64 by saying something like that -- just because you mimic a style doesn't mean you have to be a slave to that generation's common limitations. Instead he sorta just dug himself (and the chat) into a hole, lol
But can you do it without allowing people to use a second analog stick? It's one thing to make a good 2D game with only four buttons, but people kind of demand manually controllable cameras nowadays no matter how good you _think_ your automatic camera is.
@@stevethepocket Who's to say that Yacht Club Games would restrict themselves to only one analog stick? Again, just because they mimic a style doesn't mean they have to be a slave to that generation's common limitations. Example: Shovel knight uses more colors, extra sound channels, and lets you map your special move to a 3rd face button. I wouldn't be surprised if they give the option to use a second analog (that's to say if they even make a gameplay style that needs it).
So far my favorite of these has been Plague of Shadows. Even though it reused levels the movement was extremely fun, as were the items. I also really like the characters in it, and it's fun how some of them are leading a kind of double life (like Mona).
Nah, it seems very soft compared to others and its gameplay is not very entertaining, it's fine, but it's a bit slow, and it's a pain to control the character, I feel that many bomb improvements are useless, Specter's is much simpler but It has a more unique and fun mechanics with a wide variety of levels, music, and items. Frankly Plague of shadows is the only one I would give as a 7, the rest I have from 9 up.
A hated Plague Of Shadows at first, I thought the gameplay was ass, but oh boy was I wrong!! At some point it clicked and I was fucking loving it, the story, the characters, testing all the different bomb combinations, everything. It ended up being my favourite Shovel Knight campaign, the ending left a silly smile on my face and everything
@@MetalMockingjay I know, I just like looking too deeply into these things. Also, Shovel Knight NPCs usually _do_ have _some_ sort of animation. Even King Knight's Mom has an animation for making the pie.
@@Palo_din What's even more infuriating is he didn't even go to the tutorial at first, and in his first match, somehow caused the enemy to get a gem sweep. I have never seen that before in my whole time of playing and it's almost impossible for me to comprehend how a single person could screw up so badly that they would put themself in that position.
I think there might have been a disconnect in that Shovel Knight 64 bit. Trolls aside I think Vinny meant an n64 inspired game ala Hat in Time while chat took it to mean a game made specifically to emulate the n64 style from aesthetics to gameplay. I do think Vinny is a little biased on how well that era of games hold up though.
The good 3D platformers of that era hold up. People go back and play them for 10 minutes and decide they're horribly outdated because the controls feel weird by not following modern standards, but that's easy to fix. Or just get used to. I actually played Tooie for the first time after Yooka Laylee and Hat in Time, and honestly it does many things better. I think the n64 ram limitations led to more creativity in level design than the "just make the levels really huge and you're good" ethos of recent 3D platformers. Although some of the Tooie levels are still pretty big. Wish they'd release the hd version on pc.
Honestly in my opinion the N64 game that aged the best is definitely Paper Mario. The game still looks and sounds nice, plays well, and overall holds up today.
@Cave Johnson ive had this account since the dawn of youtube lol so of course it would look like a 12 year old wrote it.... cause I was young when I made it XD and I really don't feel like changing it........ plus its the pen name I go by for my art....... so I mean.... its kinda just going to stay with me until I die...
King Knight stole the show for me in a way I did not expect, sure he had the best theme song and most over the top battle with the razor confetti fanfare. But the whole schtick with him and his mom and his sweet lil rats, gold, solid bullion. I was soft on the arrival of this leg of the series, but with his playstyle and themeing hes hands down the best of the 4.
22:55 This can happen to any controller. Any piece of soft plastic actually, when the plastic starts to rot, the chemicals in it break down and make a weird oily film. I had the exact same thing happen to a switch pro controller which I had only owned for less than a year, and unfortunately the residue seemed have leaked into the inside of the controller and ruined it. Supposedly it’s got something to do with how the plastic is stored, but nobody seems to know what exactly triggers it.
is that a knockoff exclusive to use that plastic? i have a ps3 for about 10+ years now with its stock controller and after a while with no use it is still solid and charges no problem, so is it a plastic used for knockoffs or probably those with rubber grips? do those grips contribute to the rot? i'm genuinely interested
@@vooshmoozik6185 I've had this happen with a Microsoft wireless mouse, with both the grips on the sides as well as the mousewheel. I think it's correlated with how often you use the equipment as well.
@@DiamondPunk That's rubber, though. The pads on the Steam Controller are hard plastic. I'm betting what Vinny got was lubricant seeping out of the rumble motor.
I honestly have a hard time understanding why they didn't make this a sequel instead of another prequel. Could have been the story of King Knight trying to reclaim his status by creating his own kingdom, and using the card game as one of the ways to gain money and fame. And since it's often mentioned, I think it could have had a Wario Land ending too, where your money decides how big his kingdom will be in the end.
15:56 That is, quintessentially, what shovel knight is to begin with. People forget that the 8 bit era was FULL of rough design, jilted controls and- maybe not bad camera specifically, but interface problems. Even Megaman 2, which is revered to everyone, had the awkward slide at the end of landing from a jump, awkward item functionality, e-tanks being lost on game over and that one god damn fortress turret boss. Point is: Shovel Knight dodges all that sort of stuff, and manages to do it with an extra coat of polish. I'd expect an N64 style sequel to do the same.
I don't understand why people have such a big problem with the turret boss when other levels in MM2 had you use certain items and MM 3 had a level entirely based on using the rush jet and if you run out of energy you're forced to kill yourself over and over until you game over. It's the same design flaw, so what exactly about the turret boss is worse?
@@intestinalclouds-kfpobitua5342 The problem with MM3's Rushjet level was incredibly easy to bypass as you could jump up and down on Rushjet to prevent it from draining in that game. I do think Nintendo was onto something with the face button placement. You can look at a prompt for X or Y on screen and immediately know which direction to move your thumb, unlike every other controller where you have to memorize which letter/color/symbol is which.
It's not that great. You can hear the rumble motors more than feel them. I haven't looked at any teardowns, but I'm betting this is because they put the clicky mechanism between the pads and the rumblers, dampening their effect. For comparison, I loved the haptic feedback in Apple's Mighty Mouse (which they had at the editing lab in college), which simulated a tiny trackball for 2D scrolling. I didn't even know it wasn't a real ball until years later, it was so good. And that worked because the button (singular, because Apple) is basically on the underside, with the whole rest of the mouse clicking down. honestly, king knight's stage theme is way too good for the first boss (yes I know you have an encounter with black knight before him, but you know what I mean) of the game.
I just watched the match after the tutorial joustus, and the computer actually made a mistake that cost it the game, it could’ve pushed the row up to win instead of just itself, that surprised me just cause I’m used to card game ai being good and detecting those things quickly, it may have ended in a draw but it could’ve won
...Now im just imagining something more Megaman like where Mr Hat steals the helmets of each knight he beats and 'copies' an attack of theirs to use when swapping hats

honestly, king knight's stage theme is way too good for the first boss (yes I know you have an encounter with black knight before him, but you know what I mean) of the game.
Specter Knight is here! 29:17
Does this also include the 3DS Version?
On December 10th.
King Knight plays in a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament
I just watched the match after the tutorial joustus, and the computer actually made a mistake that cost it the game, it could’ve pushed the row up to win instead of just itself, that surprised me just cause I’m used to card game ai being good and detecting those things quickly, it may have ended in a draw but it could’ve won
Bit sad nobody mentioned Rocket Robot on Wheels in chat.
Of course Vin would play first against Cardia and tie.
Did he get an early copy?
Yeah that's what I was thinking when I saw his stream notification.
It's not out until December 10.
A steam code
He did and basically was told to not stream any mega spoilers
He emailed back and asked if the first 2 hours was ok and Yacht Club said yeah
SPEEN the game.
Oh shit it's coming out? Well Wii U, you get to be a game console again...
Banjo Kazooie is wonderful
You know what now that we have this when will we get a Mr hat campaign I want it to happen
...Now im just imagining something more Megaman like where Mr Hat steals the helmets of each knight he beats and 'copies' an attack of theirs to use when swapping hats
So that litterally mean that the baz destructed his own home !
Wow !
Chat member is right! Banjo Kazooie has terrible camera and bad controls. Now Superman 64, thats a game with good camera and tight controls.
"I wouldnt mind see them take on a zelda game" welp...whos exited for mina?
