the lost art of serve and volleying. Cressy has mad skills at the net and is so enjoyable to watch.
Unfortunately Nadal will eat him alive at baseline
And nice return
@@raoulhery I don't know. At 6'6" with a net game, and Rafa just coming back, he can prove to be a challenge. I'm sure Rafa will view him as a challenge.
yeah!! I like his style, serve and volley it's a great weapon if u know how to use it!!
@@raoulhery don’t count with that
nadal didn´t look at his very best here, but it´s impressive how he managed to get out of difficult situations thanks to his tactics and exquisite touch. i hope he wins the title so he can have a confidence boost prior to AO
It's understandable that he's not at his best. The guy hasn't played competitively for more than half a season for all practical purposes. Let's hope he finds his groove at the AO.
Great players win tight matches without being at their best - Rafa is a perfect example .
He’s been sick too
He is in fabulous form after being out for almost 6 months ..
He will win the final vs. Cressey a serve and valleyer. Big guy with long reach though. It will be tough but Nadal will out play him.
My man Cressy stepping up big time. What a promising 2022 for the tennis fans! So many new stars to shine.
why dont you find a girlfried ? fascist supporter :D
Grigor fan here, but I am highly impressed by Cressy! Hope it breaks in top 50 this year!!
Cressy is a very good server and volleyer . And his backhand returns are pretty good as well ! A very challenging opponent for 2022 ! I hope he keeps improving his rhythm and finishing at least at top 20
Damn, Cressy has improved since I used to watch him on the challenger tour where he almost had no backhand, and was very weak in rallies compared to now.
so true 👍
Couple of really good backhands in the vid
Ruusuvuori's forehand is very similar to the forehand of Jannik Sinner. Nadal won but it was closer than the score might suggest.
The score was close
More like Alex de minaur's
I like to call him Sinner Zero-Calories™️
Yeah..with 30/40 km less
Yeah I can see the Sinner similarity.. a modern, almost zero takeback power forehand
One of the dying breed, serve and volley.
Nice to see him shine again.
Technically an abandoned one since the courts got slower but I do want a serve and volleyer that can strive and reach Top 10.
Serve and volley by Cressy is amazing!! Will be rooting for him in the future
Yeah like young karlovic
Congratulations to the young Ruusuvori who showed talent and lost because of small details at the decisive points
Just saw Cressy in Eckental Challenger Nov. 2021 against Masur... big moment right now!
Cressy takes me back to the 80's......boy.....how much did I miss that serve & volley game....such a beauty.....
Should be an interesting final, wonder how Nadal will handle a serve and volley player
Yes he won’t that guy is the cryptonite of Nadal , who at this day is on his 40 % of power and going down
@@Santi-792 I must agree. If Nadal isn’t aggressive with his Returns (which he naturally isn’t) this will be a huge L.
He's been there, Done that!
It's worth pointing out that I don't think Nadal has ever last to a serve and volley player at least since he turned 18. Remember him playing against Andy Roddick trying serve and volley at the 08 US Open? It was a blood bath.
Reminds me of Dustin Brown on grass
This is not the Nadal at his best. But still this is the fighter Nadal that we need right now. The 2nd set was amazing. Nadal fought through a tough Roussari who was starting to feel comfortable facing Nadal.
He hasn’t had the best prep. Had covid last week
Ruusuvuori* Roussari is a first time imo
It looked like Ruusuvori wanted Rafa to hit that forehand down the line on the penultimate point of the highlights, but Rafa kept denying him the shot. That was pretty interesting.
He will be best with few more shots of steroids coctails.
@@Rocky-sn6fl He can't take steroids. It would only weaken the congenital issue in his foot.
Nadal cressy for the final ! Two completly opposite style ! The one coming to the net agaisnt the one passing everyone coming to the net
Lol
Interesting matchup
Wow spoiler wkwk
summed up brilliantly
I can't imagine Cressy will stand much of a chance with such a one-dimensional game. Don't get me wrong, he seems to have improved a ton since even a few months ago. But against Nadal? Yeeesh
ruusuvuoir is such a good player, really hope he can do better on AO!
Yes, Ruusuvori is an exciting young player to watch - I hope he has a good year.
So good to see Rafa back and looking healthy 🔥
Another final to start the year 💪
I must wonder if his strength is back from contracting Covid19. He should have flattened a lot of the forehands but I didn't see that. He was also a step slower than we know him to be. Cressy will be a challenge.
@@andyroo9381 Any player at 35 1/2 years old is a step slower, that's what age does to your body. And Rafa has had so many injuries throughout his career. Besides Rafa and Novak, how many players older than 34 are in the Top 20? Answer : zero! (Roger is still there because the rankings were frozen, but he'll be out very soon. Bautista-Agut ist 33).
Wait till his vaccine kicks in...
@@DavidSmith-ip6tk still waiting, clown
@@Olly_2024_ yes I was a little facetious but you must have noticed the amount of sports stars and those in the public eye dropping dead...mysteriously.
Rafa is a sight for sore eyes, even when not playing his best!😍🥺
You got that right!
cressy looking like a 1990's player and i love it
I love the serve and volley tennis 🤩
Serve and Volley!! Yes! Finally an antidote to the endless grinders.
Rafa movement has been increase a little bit, good preparation for the slam
I hope he is just holding back a little and an ao he will play better
Agreed. Also is pessi finished or penaldo finished?
Watching Cressy: back to the 90s
What an artist!
Many tennis pro players are more or less at the same level but what makes different champs like Nadal from others is their mental strength in moments that matter
Did I fall asleep and wake up in 1992? Wow , its soooo good to see serve and volley again. Is like Tennis took a Red Bull.
A lot of serve and volley. Great game.
Cressy is going to be lethal when the Tour moves to grass courts in a few months.
Cressy hasn't played much on the main pro tour. Presumably he's been playing in the challengers. He's 6'6" and covers the net very well. His backhand is not much but he defends well with it. It's very hard these days to come to the net as much as he does so he's a longshot to do well for long on the main tour.
I like his attitude, calm and focused
I thought his backhand return of serve was amazing! Dimitrov should not have kept going to that side on 2nd serves.
I don’t think it’s a long shot. He’s proven to be successful at the pro level - finaling is not easy (Also nearly beat PCB at USO)
@@sportsallday5991 Not nearly, he did beat PCB
@@sportsallday5991 There have been very few 'pure' S&V players with long spells in the top 100 in the last 10 years. I can only think of Mischa Zverev.
Looking forward to Cressy at the AO and especially Wimbledon. Nice to see a good serve and volley player.
If Rafa wins another Slam this year it could be one of the greatest comebacks from injury
Not really he's done it soo many times, it's just another day in the office for the greatest tennis player of all time
@@ghsense2626 He aint the goat
@@defeatist3463 He is the goat on clay
@@wdog22 Yes
@@defeatist3463 He is the goat, not only on clay but in general
Cressy is one of my new favorite players on tour to watch and just seems like an overall cool guy
As a rafa fan, i know that at this age and his situation right now is very hard to competitive for a gs:(. But im still happy watchin him play his tennis until he retire...
Are you from india??
@@rishbahpandey8697 nope
@@phamdat9669 which country??
@@rishbahpandey8697 Viet Nam bro
It’s just fun to have the variety and see an up and coming player who is different. He has big holes in the game to work on. Medvedev is 6’ 6” and he’s amazing from the baseline, so Cressy can move up if he puts in the work
Cressy is good serve and volley player. Nice to see
Being from Finland its nice to see Emil do this well. Hopefully he has a great year! And Cressy WOW 👍👍. I thought serve-volley was dead. Boy I miss the times of McEnroe, Becker, Edberg, Sampras, Goran, even Roger when he was young....
Been following Cressy in the second half of last season in the challenger circuit. He reached a ton of finals but only to be beaten by some German in the final. It was kind of a jinx. Was afraid if it would affect his career. But now this is really impressive and am glad he is doing well. Hope he can get into the AO too if not already.
cressy is bringing back a playing style that was thought to be extinct, quite exciting
I saw Cressy playing college tennis and he had the exact same serve and volley strategy that he has now.
You are from USA??
Lots of former college players are doing very well on the ATP circuit. You have Giron, McDonald and Cressy that played at UCLA, Norrie at TCU, Koefer at Tulane, Salisburry at Memphis......and the list goes on .....it shows you how tough D1 college tennis is......
But all it's doing is producing a bunch of decent players, no top 10 material yet.
@@kieranrankie203 There have been plenty of players that made it to the top 10 that played college tennis, and to play competitive in the ATP tour you have to be a great player anyway, that was the point if the comment ….. get it now ?
As far as I know, there are several players from college tennis who broke into top 10 such as Kevin Anderson, John Isner or Jack Sock... However, they are not Grand Slam favorite. In the Big 3 era, the last American who won Grand Slam is Andy Roddick in 2003. I guess American tennis need other players like Agassi or Sampras.
@@thanhphongbui577 the point was that College D1 tennis is very high level, to make it in to the top 100 ATP you have to be really good and there are several ex college players that are in the top 100.....Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are at another level.
@@TheSportsPROgram No need to get salty.
Quality highlights 👍
I remember when Cressy was known as the loudest player on your (Luke Allen video). Looks like he's matured now. Good for him
I remember watching cressy on college tennis and now he’s playing against Nadal in the final🔥
Rare serve and volley all the way thrugh by cressy, nadal hard fight ahead the final
Rafael Nadal is the purest glory of tennis
Ruusuvuori has a very impressive game...
Bravo Maxime! Bring it in the final!
The new variations to rafas game is incredible. Serve and volley, drop shots, harder serving, etc
Cressy is a time traveler from the early 90's wow
Reminded me Edberg at times, Cressy well deserved win.
Watch out. Rafa’s sting on his forehand seems to be back after the long break. He had gotten to a point where his backhand had become his best shot, and by a distance. The forehand had become too loopy. But geez that thing seems to be right back to his best. Early days though, let’s see.
Yaa pretty ominous signs
For his opponents
With Cressy entering the Top 100 (he's now no. 75), the USA have 13 players in the Top 100, but none in the Top 20 (Fritz is no. 22).
He is amazing athlet so happy to see him again in Australian 💕Love Nadal 💕🎾
cressy's inside out backhand was on fire huh? literally running around forehand opportunities to hit it haha.
Another match that I couldn’t watch even I paid for it. Thanks tennis tv great service!!!
Never heard of the Finn. He looks to be one of the new and up and coming generation with great potential.
Wow, kudos to the big man. Wouldn't have predicted that one! Can't imagine he'll pose much of a threat to Nadal, though.
I wouldn't be so sure about that, if Cressy can keep his nerve he'll pose a big threat
should be a cakewalk for Nadal !
@@tvo006 Didn't end up being a cakewalk, but he still won of course. Cressy was impressive the way he hung in there!
@@sumeursault Cressy does have a beatiful game, but i cant see him hurting Nadal without having a decent backhand. I think Nadal really wanted to play a longer match rather than just keeping it business and going to his backhand.
Im sorry for Dimitrov, great player. But i love Cressy, he reminds me about a tennis buried in the past. Greetings from Rome Italy
Rafa's forehand doesn't have the penetration it once had. His shots are barely landing over the service box.
Really sets him up on HC's. He's lost that devastating forehands which used to push people 4m behind the baseline.
He's making it easy for opponents to attack him.
I m pretty sure he will win Australian Open if he doesn't meet Novak. Federer fan here
@@gotimlol5318 Pretty sure? I wouldn't hold such high expectations.
@@kieranrankie203 it's not high expectation when he reached 5 finals and winning one .He deserved atleast one more Australia trophy
Truly amazing to see Nadal return to the court post operation and make it to the finals of this tournament!
Dimitrov is good at saving break and set points, but he's SO BAD when he has those himself. Sort of frustrating, but oh well! He saved a bunch of break points and 3 MPs today, but could not finish the tiebreak from 6-3 up.
Yeah choked so bad
He always chokes when he's expected to win. I've been calling him Dimichoke for years.
Same old story with Dimitrov. I knew this would happen. I just knew it. He generally crumbles when under pressure. We've seen it time and time again.
@@philipcross8121 and the match against Botic Zandschulp one day before? Saving 2 match points, one of those by wrong footing him and coming from 2/5 down in the third set?
I know he lost many matches under pressure but also won some.
In my opinion, it looks like he move faster than he moved at AO 2021.Agree?
Faster I don't know but better definitely yes
noo he was sperb at ao 2021 just tsisipas went to god mode and nadal couldnt cope
@@sahanwaragoda597 Untrue! It's well known he was struggling against backpain during the match against the greek. That cost him the victory
@@Ky-fm8ho I thought Rafa said during the match the back pain wasn’t too bad. I’m pretty sure nadal was tired and unable to keep up his level
@@Ky-fm8ho Nope, there were fitness issues, he simply got tired after the 3rd set. 😁 Hopefully this year he is ready for best of 5, especially in the perspective of RG
Seeing more netplay overall these days. Struff is a lot of serve and volley, for example. A welcome development.
As a U.S citizen, Happy to see some American talent in the Finals!!!!
Cressy is from France lol
@@alvinli5268 Lol, Thank you Alvin for destroying what little hope for US tennis I had left!!
@@josemiguelhurtado4624 still French, chicano. You should brush up on your own English by the way, wouldn't want to have you deported
@@josemiguelhurtado4624 bro I’m American too, and Cressy probably has dual citizenship but the man has spent most of his life playing for france
Nadal needs this tournament win for his own confidence and boost into the Australian Open. It is still a slower Nadal and less powerful but he still has the tenacity to win over Cressy. BTW, Cressy was impressive and will be a true contender for this title. I don't see this being an easy match for either to win. My hopes are for Nadal.
I don't like how Cressy kept on serve and volleying almost every time I really thought that Dimitrov would win but Cressy had a very good volley🎾🎾🎾 also his serve. It was a very cool match
Was expecting a Nadal-Dimitrov summit clash. Anyway, Cressy Serve and volley are too good.
I thought time of players like Goran Ivanisevic or Patrick Rafter is away. But no… here comes Maxim Kressy! Well done!
Serve and volley 😍
Short of weapons for Dmitrov against Cressy's powerful serve and volley
Nice to se some serve and volley
I don't understand why is Nadal like secretly the best volleyer of all time?
reminds me of when ruusuvuori beat zverev in the Miami open 😎👍
Remember this ruusuvuori , Alcaraz and sinner are the next big 3
Such a shame Dimitrov lost
No surprise
He always loses once he starts gathering hype and expectation.
Vamos!!!!!
At least Cressy isn't going "WUUU AHHHHH" on every single shot like he was at UCLA. The last thing the ATP needs is Sonego 2.0
Cressy’s old school s&v almost a lost art. Devestating when it works. I’m sure the likes of Sampras, Becker, Macenroe, Cash, Newcombe, etc would have enjoyed this display. Will be interesting to see how he holds up against Nadal’s brutal bh and fh top spin angles and diving balls.
I watched the match today brother Rafael. I would like to see you soon hopefully after Monday.
Cressy has beautiful volley
Go bruins! Great job!
Serve and Volleying yes. Go Cressy get on a run for the AO2022.
Cressy plays and moves great!
Cressy hitting serve and volley points like nobody's business
Great Emil Ruusuvuori 👍😘🤗🌞
Rafa looks better and better every match. I think it could be enough for AO. Lets see tomorrow final it will tell a lot. If he can win it, he will be able to go deep in AO.
bravo
Cressy's playing style a little bit looks like KArlovic, for me. Especially his backhand slice and his serve.
Gran juego del finés Rosuvori. Nadal ganó pero defendiéndose mucho.
Buen duelo de aprendizaje / vuelta para ambos
The point in 2:12 is just amazing!
This guy Cressy is impressive.
Robin: Holy topspin, Batman!
I'm glad Nadal won so he can have one more match to tune up for the Australian Open. So far, his movement looks great, almost at 100%.
Looks slower than young nadal.
@@mattfoley4128 but fire and passion still the same
That point which earned Rafa a break point at 6-5, I was thinking - Yeah. I don't think Rafa is going to give him that forehand down the line, just so he could counter with his own forehand down the line. Rafa is only going to give it once he has that big enough opening where it's near impossible for him to smack it back. Sure enough, Rafa kept him at bay and as a result, Ruusovori exposed himself.
Is it the rod Laver Arena ?
This is like G League of Tennis.
LETS GO BRUINS!!
Congratulations Rafa 🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A serve and volley player beating a baseline basher in a hard court? Are we in 1997?
Dimitrov is a baseline basher? Basher?
is this tournament being played at the same venue as the AO?
Bernard tomic is the 🐐
Why do you say that? Everybody knows it already
A lot of these new hard hitting guys have the tomas berdych problem, hit a good ball but on the move side to side, low balls and a lack of variety in shorts will hit them long term
Rafa really struggles to close out matches these days. It's really strange seeing it from him of all people.
He's been struggling for a year already... But that's the post pandemic Rafa, we need to get used to it 😁 it's still important to win titles even without playing super well
Great from Ruusuvuori eventhough!
