@@jayr.marchant9101 such a great amp for the price, I think they punch above their weight and are only let down by their reputation (which isn’t really relevant for the new IV model)

I recently bought a mk4 after a lot of deliberation about whether to get a marshall or not. But the Fender clean tone persuaded me. I also saw the That Pedal Show episode and decided to change the valves. I went with a 12AY7 in V1, left the 12AX7 in V2 and put a 5751 in V3, which has a bit more power than a 12AT7. I decided against the AT because there were a few people on forums who had reason to believe that they werent really compatible for some reason (bigger power draw or something) and could cause damage long term. Its a bit confusing as the George Benson model has an AT in V1 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for the comment! I've heard good reviews of people trying the 5751 in the V1 position which only has a minor gain reduction but smooths out some of the harshness of the amp, and in V3 where it acts as a solid phase inverter. The PI tube doesn't really constitute much effect on the sound but more the feel of the amp however it's on the minor side. Glad you like the 12AY7 in V1, I think it sounds a lot more like a vintage Fender amp and is clean for days!

@jameslovie yes, I forgot to add that the drive/more drive channels sound a lot nicer now. They're more overdrive than distortion now. I have an Amptweaker Big Rock Pro for distortion when I need it anyway. Also, the hair trigger clean volume thing has gone, but there's still plenty of volume. I think somewhere around 3.5 keeps up with our drummer 👍🏼. Nice playing by the way

It is a great amp but will need work e.g., filter caps, diodes, tubes, etc. Fender went really cheap. The IV is mostly unchanged from previous generations said a pro. tech in another video who has worked on all of them over decades.

@@MOAB-UT yes, they are all produced in high volume and have some poor design choices with regards to how close some components are to the PCB board. I think most Fender amps have issues you’d find with mass production, only way to get around that would be a hand wired amp.

@davidmackie-d1j I studied EE too son. Not just electronics. I also studied at an Ivy. Stick to testing what I design using your multimeter. Everything I said was true. We can go deep down the circuit rabbit hole if you think you can keep up. They share some things but they are NOT the same amps. The layout and parts are cheaper and not having 6l6V's on the power amp does make a difference.
