- In this video we're going to review the three options for setting up a Firefighter VRS (Versatile Rescue System) with and without a lanyard. The second video will demonstrate how the different setup options impact baling off a pitched roof.
Love the videos man
Love your guys setups. We don't have rescue belts at all in Australia not even got belt loops on our turnouts. No VRS for us as well, I don't know why but like all fireys we make the best of what we do have.
Bro, we need to work on making leather helmet chin straps STANDARD in the fire service. Spend the extra $30 on them for your guys, they’ll feel cooler and look cooler and that’s what over 60% of this job is if we’re being honest.
Is the “cobra belt” the new preferred belt vs. a harness? (I have a fdny harness and have just been waiting to purchase a kit for it)
Hello John - Thanks for your question! Deciding on either an escape belt or seat harness really comes down to 3 considerations: Comfort, turnout gear design and budget. Belts are less comfortable than seat harnesses but can have 2 options of use - Wearing one over your coat or installing one in the belt loops of your turnout gear pants (if they are designed with loops) - Wearing and LOADING an escape belt around your waist is the least comfortable - Wearing one at hip level in your pants is more comfortable and wearing a seat harness is the most comfortable. Escape belts have a wide range of design and price points; Our Cobra Belts cost us about $60 to make, but the average belt ranges from $70 - $100. Seat harnesses range from $150 on the low end to $250 on the higher end. I made a homemade seat harness video many years ago for those on a budget: Here's the link - ruclips.net/video/r7OoDhfDo6U/видео.html
