I need a neighbour like you, i like to strip down radios like these when a problem occurs but that's all i do, i know nothing about electronic or soldering or how to test, but I've managed to fix my pure siesta once by buying a 2nd hand one from ebay and swapping the little power board multi coloured mini connecter that took the power supply and micro usb and fixed it, felt proud too as a novice!
If you dip the braided wick into solid flux paste (the sort that comes in make-up type dispensers as opposed to the liquid stuff) and press it down with the soldering iron so that the flux melts and runs up into the braid you'll find the wicking process works really well.
What a coincidence, i just thougt about ordering such a device today. This looks very similar to a radio offered under the brand Technisat Digitradio 51, but instead of a metall antenna rod as seen on your device it seems to come with a simple antenna-wire instead.
with breaks like this I usually expose the broken trace, make a loop out of capacitor leg, remove all the old solder, put the loop over the jack leg, bend the excess of the loop to follow the trace then finally cover the trace, pad, loop and jack leg with a good solid joint of fresh solder. This kind of fault comes up constantly with Megadrive model II, PC Engine, Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear and pretty much most gadgets with barrel connectors but those are the worst culprits.
I watched the video as soon as I could. I didn't know how to write a reaction to it. The video is from a series repair during tea breaks. So. If I could find such a defect at all, a flowering tea tree would grow in my cup of tea in that time.
hi vince, these tips rejuvenate products shall be used when the sponge or if the copper curls are not working, do not abuse of it and do not breath its fumes !!
Vince. I have a request. I own a harmony one remote. They are a advanced remote control for pretty much everything but there's several videos online trying to fix the problem with the charging dock. None of the videos online "fix" the problem. I'm sure you can fix it and I'm sure it would also generate tons of views as well because it's a commen problem with these. I have one and I would love to get it working and I'm sure thousands of other people would love to get theirs working as well. Thanks for all the inspirational videos.
I think the voice came out of the radio. At least it sounded like that with headphones on. And the voice just stopped as soon as the Radio Screen turned off too
I think that you must change your soldering iron or attach the new soldering tip on that one....if you repairing electronic component like on this video.
When you discover the crack first it is very noticable that the fracture in the PCB extends further than that and there are cracks in the adjacent traces.
I had the right idea, intermittent, maybe a break in the solder and something moving. I would not have found break in trace. Need to learn multimeter. Thanks
The solder fix is not going to hold up well. With time and wiggling, it's going to break again. A more long term solution would be to bridge the connection with an inch or so of flexible wire soldered at each end. That way it would be able to withstand the inevitable tiny movement of the connector just fine.
Have you fixed a Breville sandwich toastie maker ? mind keeps blowing the RCD and puts the house in darkness its brand new and 3rd replacement as it has a 5 year warranty Must be a common fault on this landfill electronics Wish I had bought a cheap chinese make than a branded product
Soldering tip for you. Apply heat from the Iron onto the copper pad to heat it up BEFORE applying solder. Let the copper pad melt the solder so you will get a better joint. I suggest watching a video about it by the veteran Electronics expert and RUclipsr BligClive: ruclips.net/video/aIab66EgfHM/видео.html
I really enjoy the Trying to fix series. I'll always let all the ads run the full length to show my support.
You are getting quicker and quicker at these little finds! Very impressive!!!

I thought the same.
Keep the fixes coming Vince! I love watching your videos. Thank you for your hard work and effort you put into your videos.
It's great to see how you have gotten so much better at diagnosis over all of your videos. Good job bud.

Took me longer to make the tea than the video... just means I get to watch it twice.
Lol
Awesome video. 👍
Thanks Vince your keeping me sane through this lockdown, great work

That's good advice! I was going to suggest the same - extend out further with a wire or something.
Stone the crows Vince you really do have a keen eye.
love your tea time fixes
Great fix
Another enjoyable fix 😊, keep up the good vids 👍🏻
Hi, this quick 'tea break fix' video shows the repair of a John Lewis DAB radio with a strange no power fault.
Sit back and enjoy.
I watched the video as soon as I could. I didn't know how to write a reaction to it. The video is from a series repair during tea breaks. So. If I could find such a defect at all, a flowering tea tree would grow in my cup of tea in that time.
Great vid

@My Mate VINCE nice repair
Nice repair =D That was more or less the same issue I had with that DAB radio!
Here in America, a tea break now means something completely different
Nice job dude
Another good job. Now fix DAB itself, which is a terrible mess.

Tea break fix for you. Hours of getting nowhere for me then chucking it in the bin. A little knowledge eh! Great fault finding👌
what solder do you use?
Good spotting with the crack
Great, super, interesting!
My guest even before watching this Whole video first. This clock radio problems probably just needed re soldering or changing the A/c power cable.
Vince please make your videos atleast 10 minutes long so you get more ad revenue from them. I’d gladly watch more ads for this content!
A heavy component having broken solder joint is my guess. OOOH. YES. BAREL JACKS. XD
I think that you must change your soldering iron or attach the new soldering tip on that one....if you repairing electronic component like on this video.

Thank you!
This was cool.
I don't drink tea, only coffee, is it alright if i still watch?
Was just thinking the same ☕

Disturbing start.. who is this mymatevince fellow and what happened to Vince from mymatevince.com :D
A lot of John Lewis items seem to be badly put together & always failing & faulty
