  • Cocoa Butter Banana bars - I'm soaping at 30% water. I mix my lye water around a 1:1 Ratio. Using a little more water to ensure the lye is fully dissolved. My Cocoa butter is 25%, to ensure a slight cocoa smell when bars are fully cured. I add the purée to the oils and make sure the banana is fully mixed up, with no large chunks. I made tall and skinny bars and 2" round mini bars with 5lb batch.
    RECIPE 5lbs oil
25% cocoa butter, 20% Coconut Oil, 10% Lard, 40% Olive Oil, 5% Caster Oil.
Water as percent of the oil weight is 30%
Melt the Cocoa Butter, Coconut oil, and lard. Measure out 330 grams of distilled water, 314 Grams of lye. Mix in a well ventilated area. Once the hard oils and butters are melted, add the olive oil and caster. For the Purée, measure out 350g of banana. I use frozen bananas, and they do need to thaw. Purée them and add them to your melted oils. Once everything is around 90 degrees F, add your lye water. Pour into your molds. Keep an eye on these, they will get hot and fully gel. If you are in a cold climate like myself, I cover the mold and also used the oven to fully gel.

I recently made a banana soap, and my husband loves it! However, it is a little overpowering. I can only take so much of the smell. If you love bananas, you will definitely enjoy these bars😊😊

Do you have to let them gel? or can I keep them lighter with putting it in the fridge?
