Hi! You were wondering some differences for the Japanese version. The story writing for the most part is the same minus a few key character interaction dialogues which isn't major enough to really warrant explaining,.A few weapons and few character/spell name changes due to phonetics Cure Cur2/3/4 were Cure / Cura / Curda / Curga. Fire Fir2 etc was Fire, Fira, Firda, Rub was "Death", XXXX was "Kill", "Nuke" was "Flare" and "Saber" was "Temper". "Slain...." was "Dead..." when a character was downed and the place they were revived was a church instead of a clinic marked with an extended cross atop the building instead of a heart above the door. Kary was named Marilith (マリリス), Garland was Ga-rando(ガ一ランド), Lich was Rishichi(リシチ) and a plethora of enemy name changes too long to list here. One important monster change was the "Eye" which had its entire sprite changed because it looked exactly like a classic D&D Beholder and was even called ビホルダー (Beholder). The ending was not as long-winded as the American release so it seemed there was some extra dialogue added. The four fiends were called the "Chaos four" and I am sure there's more I am not remembering off the top of my head, I will need to go back and play my FC copy and take some notes. I hope this helps answer some questions! Excellent guide video by the way! I really enjoy your work.

These videos are extremely well done. This is the best video guide to Final Fantasy that exists, I think. In fact, it's so good that I'm kind of worried about you... this couldn't have been easy to make, and there's obviously a ton of editing and research, and even more gameplay behind these two videos. But, there's still Dragon Warriors II, III *and* IV out there, all games at least as long as this one. What I'm saying is, please take care of yourself? Don't burn yourself out. Again though, great job!
I have a feeling a lot of people watched this for the nostalgia, but I'm a bit younger than the typical NES crowd and don't have any so I actually used this guide as intended. I just want to thank you for all the work you put in. I loved the running gags (the item shop's strict 1 item policy, the troll infestation, UCan's attitude, etc.) and your similar turns of phrase ("and we meet again our old friends the........". Listening to you made me realise you're a very intelligent person. Anyway I just wanted to thank you as you really helped me. I don't think I would have had the patience to beat this if it wasn't for these videos. Thanks and best of luck in 2023.
Early Castle of Ordeals (and grinding the Zombie Dragons, my prefered grind spot), and un-equipping weapons on the Black Belt........both rocked my world back then. Still can feel the effect of those discoveries even now.
WarMech is one of those enemies that shows up when you're woefully underpowered (lv 40 average with a Kn RW WW BW) but won't show up at all if you're overpowered (lv 50 average with Ma (x2) WW BW.) Might have been a change they did on the GBA version, so maybe?
Just beat the Final Fantasy remake on a Game Boy Advance emulator, all thanks to your guide. The recommended party and secret lvl-up area made the game a breeze. But the final boss was incredibly difficult. Anyway, love the videos. You're the man.
This game has been one of my favorites since I was a kid .... still play it to this day .... I always challenged myself by playing and beating the game with crazy party combos like 4 White Mages or 4 Black Mages or 2 Fighters and 2 Thiefs or 4 Black Belts .... so many memories
I like how you incorporate the Nintendo power guide and stats and other strategies on the screen with the game play. Going to need to take time to watch Part 2 in segments. I've never really been into RPGs, but I can appreciate the work that goes into them. These games take a lot of patience, appreciation, and interest to play. Like I said, I've had a hard time getting into this genre of gaming. I think the last RPG I ever completed was Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. I tried Final Fantasy VII back in the day, but kept getting stuck at the same point and couldn't figure out how to advance. Kudos for putting in the time and effort on these videos. 👏🏻
When I was a kid, I used to try different kinds of parties. One party was 4 blackbelts! Of course, I had to gain a crazy number of levels, but I can remember doing upwards to 1500 damage to Chaos. Another favourite was either 4 fighters or 4 black mages. A lot of fun because of the mixture of party members. Brilliant game!
use Black Belt, Knight, Red Mage, White Mage. Unstoppable. I completed the game, Twin Galaxies rules style with that party No reset, no team death, no game stopping. Through it in one go. Not running. Slaying everything
What if I told you, the biggest hidden gem on the NES is Guardian Legend? I am notorious now for positing this every week until it happens!!! Final Fantasy is one of my favorite games on the NES and your video as always is outstanding.
What's up guardian legend guy! I've seen all your posts and agree with you 100% Its an amazing game and would love to see it covered. I have a retro console so as soon as he covers it, imma play it again!
I once made an RPG Maker game that followed the Light Warriors after they returned to the future, but, the world they returned to never needed Light Warriors, as such no one knew them. Also, the Black Mage was corrupted in the battle of Chaos and became the villain of the new story :)
I once did an All Monks run, thinking that it'd be super tough. Actually, it was kinda like the super-secret easy mode of the game! No weapons, no magic, just fists of fury and a crap ton of potions. Even when I got the Masamune, my guys were still dealing more damage WITHOUT IT!!! 🤯 Chaos went down like a chump! Been meaning to attempt All White Mages and All Black Mages runs, just to see which would be tougher. Actually starting to think an All Thieves run would be the toughest, since you only have crap weapons at the start of the game, and no magic until the class change. Lemme know what crazy stunts you guys have done. 👍
@@TopsideCrisis346, I would say the 4 WM party is harder by far. Much harder, I'd say. The reason is 2 fold: offensive magic access, and weapons access. Black Mages get access to the Silver Knife, before their promotion, and that's not a bad weapon to work with. Additionally, they get access to the Catclaw, which can do decent melee damage. As for magic access, one spell that they do get access to is Warp, which lets you travel back to the previous dungeon level. In theory, a person could use the Warp spell multiple times to exit out of the Temple Of Fiends Revisted, after going back to the past. I will mention though: Fighting Lich in the past will be a pain in the ass, due to Nuke, and the lack of HP progression for the class.
Thanks a lot, man. I just finished this gem tonight. Never had the guts to face it since the remaster collection on ps1, and now, as I write this message, I can't help but smile as I hear the credit song. I think this victory, as much on nostalgia and memories of false difficulty, is not mine alone, but ours as you gave me the needed push. Cheers, as I hope you'll keep on helping the youngster in us face their challenges with a smile.
My one bit of advice, when clearing a group of enemies out, and you have 2 or less remaining, I'd personally use the Heal staff to help top off some party members, saving a few heal potions (as well as time) in the post fight recovery phase.
One thing I can say about pixel, is is it just me, or is it easier than previous versions? I mean, Astos is the only one who tried an instant death spell, and it missed.
@@PhoenixAlaris93 with the Q button and auto battle it seemed that I was naturally over leveled since I fought way more and almost never ran away. So it would seem much easier being over leveled.
Only at 1:42:00, but two things: When buying the bottle, you can actually land your airship on top of the caravan. This is the only desert tile you can land the airship on. As far as the tomb in the Japanese version, it says "Here lies Link". An obvious nod to The Legend of Zelda. I have no idea why they changed it from Link to Erdrick for the US version. In all subsequent ports of the game, it has been reverted back to the original "Here lies Link".
I know who Erdrick is. My point was that in every other iteration of the game, the tombstone referenced Link. Only in the original NES port does it reference Erdrick. I am unsure of why that is.

I'm pretty sure that Darryl, the mermaid's friend, is referencing Daryl Hannah, the actress that played the mermaid Madison in Splash. (released in 1984)
One tip you didn't mention in the video, when you get to the end of the ice cave. In a lot of versions of FF1, the Eye boss can be repeatedly killed for extremely fast XP. Once you beat it, just walk 1 space off the boss tile and then back onto it, and the encounter will start again. Since the eye is fairly easy to kill in a single round, this can be a great way to grind levels if you want to become stupidly overpowered.
@@gilessaint-loup2426 There's no rule saying you can't come back to the ice cave after you get the airship. You don't have to do the grinding the first time you show up, and it's an extremely fast and safe way to level up.
Excellent playthrough!! Tremendously informative and nostalgic! I also really appreciate all the detailed editing, where you show the relevant town or enemy etc. data in the moment of where you are. Looks like a lot of effort, and it paid off totally!
Greetings from Japan! :) Daryl is a refrence to Daryl Hannah, the actress who played a Mermaid in the movie Splash. Nice play through some differences to the JP version, notable being all the monsters in the Japanese version had Dungeons and Dragons names for the monsters they represented.. As far as the tomb Stone I remember Link was mentioned as "link, rest in peace" if I remember correctly translated. and the Tomb said Loto who is I think Erdricks name in Japan. It's been a few years since I played through it so I may be remembering it wrond and I was younger but I think that was what it was.
Another great video. Thank you for entertaining us. I think you missed a reference when talking to the mermaids. The mermaid named Daryl is a reference to Daryl Hanna, the actress who played the mermaid in the Tom Hanks 80s movie Splash
Nice Job! I played along with you on the pixel remaster! After seeing your care of this game I can't wait for your coverage of FF6! I often get to the world of ruin, putz about trying to do stuff not sure where to go and what to do, then loose interest and never end up finishing the game. This game reminded me of that game and exactly why I need this channel for some games!
I started replaying this game on my retro console as soon as you posted last week, and binge played all week. I'm at the sea shrine now and my whole party is at level 31 lol
I found the heal staff and also the heal helmets to be far more valuable than any other magic casting item. By the nature of melee you have unlimited damage but with no way to refill magic outside of towns and 99 max potions heal items are the only source of, albeit grindy, infinite HP for long dives exploring the last dungeon ect
It's a viable if tedious strategy to conserve healing magic and heal potions - good to have as an option in the final dungeon if you get a few really bad battles (gas dragons) that could chew through a ton of your potions and leave you vulnerable toward the end. Harder to keep open slots with characters who use a lot of armor. I usually pair with the wizard staff to confuse the last 1-2 enemies and get a few free rounds of healing in.
@@ChumblesMumbles good strategy Mumbles, I usually weaken the last enemy, then have everyone NOT using healing items, go into defense mode so they just block damage until everyone's back to near full before finishing the poor wretch off. Slow? Yes, but its quite the life saver when you run into weaker enemies that don't have 1 hit kill moves or something nasty.
My dad loved this game so much he purchased a dozen copies and numbered them to try a ton of parties at the same time. He said 4 thieves was hard early, but 4 white wizards was way slower in the late game. He probably has them all tucked away somewhere.
1:34:43 The mermaid Daryl is most likely a reference to the movie _Splash_ where Daryl Hannah played a mermaid who magically acquires a pretty good set of legs. Also, the young woman with the dancer sprite who is so proud of her legs in the town of Onrac is the missing mermaid being spoken of. 🧜♀️

This is frickin awesome man! 3hrs and 30 mins of content! This is like 2 movies! And that's not even including part 1! Im going to make a playlist just for these 2 vids and watch em on loop!
I didn't expect you to go straight into part 2. I was expecting a couple of other games first but I'll take an immediate two part release for one of my favorite NES games. Though this does raise the question if you'll cover the other less well known RPG's that were released, especially the ones that have official translations on the Nintendo store now. I hear you can actually play the NES version of FF2 now. Just make sure I get a notification when you do Sweet Home. Love that game and it's spiritual successor on the SNES Demon of Laplace.
I love that you include pics straight from the strategy guide. I don't think I've seen those since I was like 13 so it's a trip seeing them decades later
I remember grabbing the life spell with a white wizard and coming back to farm the eye for EXP in the ice cave, very quick kills and by that point you had a ton of strength so the chances of it actually killing anyone before it dies were very low.
My second fav grinding spot. The Eye is great. Once you can get out of cave alive easily. heh (I had a long term grind run on the Eye that was erased from existance by a squad of Sorcerer. They literally *rubbed* hours of effort out of existence. ugh)
I believe this is technically the "best" grinding spot to max out your characters due to how quickly you can trigger and win the encounter. At least it was that way on the NES if you wanted a party of all 50s
Not sure if anyone has pointed this out but In the Castle of Ordeal when if you go for the Heal Staff you do not have to hit the guarded space with the Nightmare enemies as you can step one more space to the left and down avoiding the guarded space by one step.
Having never played this on any of the various iterations, this playthrough was indeed a ride. Thanks for uploading this, great work. I felt like I was playing as I watched.
Odd thing (Very odd good thing). I'm not gonna lie but your lack of a perfect microphone really helps with making these videos feel like those old school "Game players" VHS tapes I used to watch all the time as a kid. Really takes me back every time lol. Keep up the great content! I'm a big fan!
Awesome! Your vids have inspired yet another playthrough of FF1 on my Wii VC. Love your stuff! Small thing: you do not have to rematch the Nitemares in the Castle of Ordeal if you get the Heal Staff. You can actually move around the space, despite it appearing that you can't. ;)
I can't believe I've watched almost 7 hours of Final Fantasy walk-through. Mind you, I played this game when it was new and have played it every few years since. I last played the redone version on my iPad a few years ago. The nostalgia I have for this game is epic. Also, narrator, whoever you are, you sound like a nerd after my own heart, with a great narrating voice. I love the nerdy references. I was going to mention the Darryl reference, but others have already chimed in mentioning it's a reference to the movie Splash.
Been watching this channel for over a year and have enjoyed all the videos however the playthrough of FF has been even better somehow. Thanks for all the hard work!
You only have to fight those Nitemares on the trap tile once. After picking up the Heal Staff, you can avoid them and their trap tile by walking on the tile just one up from them and go around them.
Im new to your channel, but youve covered 2 of my absolute FAVORITES! Zelda and Final Fantasy! The nostalgia is wonderful! I still remembered the route thru there!🤯 FANTASTIC WORK! THANK YOU!
Oh by the way, when one of the mermaids says her name is Daryl, it is a reference to the movie "Splash" where Daryl Hannah plays a mermaid with Tom Hanks
Something that always stood out to me with the ending was the mention of Jane and Sara, the Queen of Corneria and the Princess you rescued at the very beginning. It had me thinking that maybe, after their grand adventure, the Light Warriors went back to Corneria and settled down to live there as an honored part of the community. Maybe one of them even married the princess.
@@Prodmullefc Also the door in the room of the Waterfall Cave where you get the Cube is locked by the mystic key, this is an easy message to see if you simply stand on the inside of the room at the door, then go into the menu, and when you leave the menu you will be facing the door so that you can press the A button to see the message... It is my theory (just a guess more then likely) that many of the doors in the game after the canal is made are actually set up to be locked by the mystic key.. I have no actual proof of this but it is just my own guess.. Either that or when the game was programmed certain doors long after you already have the mystic key were flagged as being "locked" in the games code by some error...

And your coverage, pre-game and through game, flawless as always. Esp loved your use of the Nintendo Power "chapters" and art. Reeally fun watch. You rock, sir!
The Heal Helmet casts a stronger Heal than the Staff. Also in the Waterfall Cave at 2:22:30, you go on for quite some time about Perilisks, when they're actually Coctrices 😛 Love your videos though. I've seen them all, and when I'm finished watching them, I play them to help me sleep. Your calm and clear presentation is relaxing.
In castle ordeals, you can walk to the left to avoid the Nitemare spiked square after getting the Heal Staff. You also can avoid the MudGol fight for the Zeus Gauntlet if you don't mind getting it on the next floor. One of the "empty" chests is actually tied to the Zeus G chest, so opening one will make the other empty.
Also, the Caravan that sells the BOTTLE fairy is the only desert square that the airship can land on. That way, you only need two steps in order to buy the BOTTLE. Less chance of a fight.
I've watched some bits of randomizer tournaments of this game, and a few TAS shenanigans, but I think this and your last video were the first where I actually learned anything at all about this game. I'm still just amazed that they fit this all into 144Kb, especially considering my first FF game was VII which came in at 1,317Mb and has about the same amount of gameplay in it. You did a phenomenal job covering this one, and so thoroughly too. Bravo!
Bravo, sir. Bravo. A very well-done two-parter. You've made me want to go back and play the game again. This time via the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster~
In the sea shrine, there is mention of a mermaid named Darryl who leaves the sea. This is a 80s pop reference to Darryl Hannah who plays a mermaid in the movie Splash with Tom Hanks.
Thank you so much for guiding me through this and finally allowing me to cross final fantasy off my list of incomplete games! Your guide was invaluable!
Their name in Japanese were Mind Flayer and Illithid, which had to be changed for both character limitation and legal issues. In the Dawn of Souls remake, they keep their D&D accurate names and seemingly just get away with it or quietly paid to use the rights without it being advertised anywhere.
Almost every enemy in FF1 is lifted from AD&D. The eye enemies were originally beholders, but Squaresoft redid the graphics to avoid getting sued as well as some name changes, but most name changes were a result of limited text space.
Final Fantasy 1 is basically a D&D licensed game minus the license. Exhibit A: Bahamut and his friendly dragons (all yellow sprites, in keeping with Gold Dragons being the friendlies in D&D) vs. Tiamat and her evil chromatic dragons coming in various colors.
Bro the mermaid named Daryl is a reference to Daryl Hanna and the 80s movie Splash, which started her and Tom Hanks. I'm sure someone else has already said this.

The iocane powder reference was brilliant, especially since Final Fantasy 1 and the Princess Bride both came out in 1987.
All these years and I never realized you could get to castle ordeals early with the canoe. That just blew my mind.
It’s very worthwhile to do so as well. Ice sword for your fighter, and the Zeus gauntlet really help in the ice cave.
Early Castle of Ordeals (and grinding the Zombie Dragons, my prefered grind spot), and un-equipping weapons on the Black Belt........both rocked my world back then. Still can feel the effect of those discoveries even now.
I pretty much always complete the game in this order, caste of ordeals and ice cave before volcano
@@andrewmoluf4299 I usually do volcano last. There really isn’t anything in it that’s useful in later parts of the game.
@@sickofitall8486 Usually my strat too unless I have more than 1 ninja. Knight is a little too op so I rarely use it in my groups
Daryl is a reference to Daryl Hannah from "Splash!"
You actually found warmech pretty quickly. When I was playing this game back as a kid it took me almost an hour.
WarMech is one of those enemies that shows up when you're woefully underpowered (lv 40 average with a Kn RW WW BW) but won't show up at all if you're overpowered (lv 50 average with Ma (x2) WW BW.) Might have been a change they did on the GBA version, so maybe?
@@NotABot55 It's a straight 3/64 chance. Naturally that means bad luck is involved.
I use to farm warmechs for levels, but I ran with a useless priest lol.
@@erich6860 Did you also have a NUKE obsessed wizard and a knight that couldn't hit water if they fell into the ocean?
@@NotABot55 I like swords.
I was stuck in a bit of a rut last week, and having the Final Fantasy upload being a real highlight so am so thankful for this!
3+ hours that's a behemoth of an upload. Thank you! always great to see a new episode!

I was trying to think of where you might have gotten lost in ff7. The game pretty much always tells you what to do next.

3 B.Belts/Masters and a Red Mage is one of the least expensive and most overpowered parties I've played.
@@thegreen8172 I will have to try that one!
4x white mage is better than you would think too, 4x thief is pretty bad though lol
use Black Belt, Knight, Red Mage, White Mage.
Unstoppable. I completed the game, Twin Galaxies rules style with that party
No reset, no team death, no game stopping. Through it in one go. Not running. Slaying everything
What if I told you, the biggest hidden gem on the NES is Guardian Legend? I am notorious now for positing this every week until it happens!!! Final Fantasy is one of my favorite games on the NES and your video as always is outstanding.
Keep posting it
Guardian legend is so bad. Like power glove bad
What's up guardian legend guy! I've seen all your posts and agree with you 100% Its an amazing game and would love to see it covered. I have a retro console so as soon as he covers it, imma play it again!
Favorite nes game since I was 5
Agreed! I love guardian legend 👍🏼
I once made an RPG Maker game that followed the Light Warriors after they returned to the future, but, the world they returned to never needed Light Warriors, as such no one knew them. Also, the Black Mage was corrupted in the battle of Chaos and became the villain of the new story :)
I'm running a D&D campaign in which the party basically goes through FF1. The future they're gonna return to however...
Got a link to it?
I would love to play that D&D game! Or even DM it! Got any notes , maps or anything else?
Funny you should say that, as I made a RPG Maker game about the Light Warriors coming together before they showed up outside Corneria!
This is impressive. Thanks for putting all of the graphics and maps in. We can tell that you put so much love into your work.
You inspired me to replay this game with my own challenge run: one red mage and 3 white mages. I call it the pimp run.
I've done that run before. Not easy to pull off.
I called it "The Godfather Run", after the WWE wrestler 'The Godfather'.
I used to do the same thing all the time. Saved a lot of potions and spell slots on my WM/WW
He does say that.
I bought the pixel remaster because of this series and beat it on the same weekend! Thank you for the excellent experience!
I really want it on Playstation, so I guess I have to wait a bit longer. :)
It is easier in my opinion I gained like 4 lvls in the marsh cave
Only at 1:42:00, but two things:
When buying the bottle, you can actually land your airship on top of the caravan.
I believe Erdrick was a legendary hero in Dragon Quest.
Erdrick was the protag in Dragon Qu st/Warrior, which was their main competition, before square just up and "fuck it" merged with Enix
I know who Erdrick is. My point was that in every other iteration of the game, the tombstone referenced Link. Only in the original NES port does it reference Erdrick. I am unsure of why that is.
@@davidhanz497 my only theory is that it was a subtle jab at Enix telling them they were gonna get 86ed by the new guy in town.

I'm pretty sure that Darryl, the mermaid's friend, is referencing Daryl Hannah, the actress that played the mermaid Madison in Splash. (released in 1984)
Absolutely rushed here to post it, but after a year I'm laughably late.
Darryl is a reference to the movie "Splash" about a mermaid who grew legs and moved to New York. It starred Daryl Hannah.
The "Darryl" that the mermaid mentioned was a reference to the movie Splash with Darryl Hannah.
I was wondering if you'd go after Castle of Ordeals and the Airship before the Fire Cave. You didn't disappoint, lad. 😎👍
i love these comments. I'm seeing a lot of people mention doing things that I do too haha
I can’t tell you how much I’ve been looking forward to this!!
Risky move since it can cast Rub

Greetings from Japan! :)
Daryl is a refrence to Daryl Hannah, the actress who played a Mermaid in the movie Splash.

Can't wait! Been watching episode 1 all day. Thanks so much for your great work!
I really like how the guy whose one purpose in life is to beat things to death with his fists is named Beat.

Indeed, the heal staff and 2 heal helms on a weakened last enemy before you finish it off ensures you can keep going around in near full health.
It's an effective strategy to use, especially if you don't select a white mage.
That's awesome! A party of 4 dads would probably be a fun run, too.
Two weeks over 50 hours turned into two awesome videos. Well done.
16:50 to 17:10. An Iocane Powder/Princess Bride reference in a FF game? Inconceivable!

The mermaid Daryl is most likely a reference to the movie _Splash_ where Daryl Hannah played a mermaid who magically acquires a pretty good set of legs.
Also, the young woman with the dancer sprite who is so proud of her legs in the town of Onrac is the missing mermaid being spoken of. 🧜♀️
Coming here after watching the world record of the Any% No Reset/No RNG Manipulation speedrun haha...UCBVG should have gotten Gyre to be a special guest on this episode, that dude knows EVERYTHING about this game.
The Darryl name for the Mermaid is a reference to Daryl Hannah and Splash
Well after watching 3.5 hours of final fantasy ... my RUclips feed is now full of final fantasy videos. You have single handedly changed my recommendations
Outstanding job narrating your dog's playthrough of this classic:)
The mermaid "Daryll" is a nod to Daryll Hannah, who played a mermaid in the movie 'Splash' back in the day. :-) Nice little tribute/Easter egg!
I always thought that the Darryl reference was to Daryl Hannah in the movie Splash.
They literally *rubbed* hours of effort out of existence. ugh)
i usually grind to level 50 on the penninsula before i even get the ship (im insane).

Yeah I thought that, there is that gap.
Im new to your channel, but youve covered 2 of my absolute FAVORITES! Zelda and Final Fantasy! The nostalgia is wonderful! Wish i knew about that the 2 square lvl spot when i was younger😅 I hunted those ogres!😂😂 and then used the "hall of giants" to grind xp. I had it all fogured up when i was 10; 'how many battles i could do, how much gil id make, the cost for houses to save walking back. I still remembered the route thru there!🤯 FANTASTIC WORK! THANK YOU!
I went Fighter, Red Mage (pimp, as you mentioned😅), White Mage, Black Mage for my very first run thru.
I love how thorough you are with your guides, some of the best old school gaming content.
Holy carp. I did NOT know you could goto the castle of ordeals early like that!
Fun fact:
The "reverse C" room at 1:32:00 with 20 gold is locked by the Mystic Key.
The Light Warriors just robbed one of the mermaids of their allowance.
Wait so if you stand in front of it and press A will the game actually tell you that?
@@reloadpsi Yup. Even when you have the Mystic Key, if you stand in front of a Mystic Key locked door and press A, it'll give the same message.
dude, I've always wondered if there were any doors like that. thanks for the fun trivia, it just makes me wonder why it's locked now.
This is an awesome series of 2 parts sir! Mega thanks to you for hitting up one of the most awesomest looooong games in exietence, and letting us enjoy it in back to back weeks (without leaving us hanging). Strongly appreciate it! And your coverage, pre-game and through game, flawless as always. Esp loved your use of the Nintendo Power "chapters" and art. Reeally fun watch. You rock, sir!
The Heal Helmet casts a stronger Heal than the Staff. Also in the Waterfall Cave at 2:22:30, you go on for quite some time about Perilisks, when they're actually Coctrices 😛
Love your videos though.
So glad you made this. It was a definite high point from my childhood!
Guess I know what I’ll fall asleep listening to tonight. It is what it is, Clash at Demonhead is normally the go to
I've watched some bits of randomizer tournaments of this game, and a few TAS shenanigans, but I think this and your last video were the first where I actually learned anything at all about this game. I'm still just amazed that they fit this all into 144Kb, especially considering my first FF game was VII which came in at 1,317Mb and has about the same amount of gameplay in it.
You did a phenomenal job covering this one, and so thoroughly too. Bravo!
The mermaid named Darryl was about Darryl Hannah who was in the movie Splash! She was a mermaid who grew legs. Pretty good 80s movie.
Pretty sure the “Darryl” thing was a reference to “Splash” with Daryl Hannah.
Bravo, sir.
If I recall correctly, you can land the airship right on the caravan space... you could have saved like 1 minute off this three-hour masterpiece!
I was looking through the comments to see if anyone else pointed this out
Thank you so much for guiding me through this and finally allowing me to cross final fantasy off my list of incomplete games! Your guide was invaluable!
The mermaid named Daryl. I'm thinking that is an easter egg about Daryl Hannah who played a mermaid in the movie "Splash" in 1984.
Regarding the mermaid named Darryl, there was an 80's movie called Splash that has a main character who is a mermaid played by... Daryl Hannah
I suspect Darryl is an allusion to Darryl Hanna who starred in a movie in the 80's as a mermaid who grew legs when she got dry.
Man, the slightly late video had me worried lol, hope all is well with you. Love all of your stuff-
The Wizards and Sorcerers look dead on like Mind Flayers/Illithid from D&D. Specifically from the 1st edition .
They're actually called Mind Flayers in japanese and later games. I think they're actually supposed to be the same monster.
After watching more, i'm 100% convinced that was a mind flayer. Straight up mentioned Marilith as inspiration for another monster.
You covered everything there is to cover in Final Fantasy! Nicely done! While your team was created to be practical, I have seen crazy challenge runs where people beat the game with teams like 4 White Mages.
