Digital Amp modeling is getting craaazy good! I still do want to own a real amp one day though lol. What do you guys think about the FM9 vs the Neural plugin?
Braddah I just stumbled upon your channel and I loved the tour blogs. Always wanted to see videos like that especially from local musicians. The behind the scenes are awesome loved it more behind the scenes stuff please. Aloha 🤙🏽
Thank you bro!! I’m glad you like the vlogs!! That’s the exact reason why I make them, because its the kind of videos I would’ve wanted to watch when I was starting out
@@JoshNamba yeah brah awesome hope to see more. I’m so used to the regular luaus just show up plug in and unplu when pau it’s unreal how much work you guys do on tour. Love the VLOGS ALOHA 🤙🏽
Bro could you please make a video on The Fractal Audio Fm9 and Line 6 Helix and let us know what differences do you feel between the two units. In terms of Amp and effects quality tone feel dynamic response etc 🙏🏻
The Fractal audio definately had more depth and weight to it, And also was clearer. Neural dsp is a great plugin. I would totally use it if I didnt had Fractal wirh me in the studio in terms of recording. But in terms of Depth, definition, Dynamic response power amp clarity and tonefeel. I would use Fractal audio all the way🙌🙌 Undoubtedly!!!
In this demo, Fractal has a fuller clean tone but the Arch has a more controlled frequency response with distortion. They both sound great honestly. With a little shaping, any modeler wins 🏆 😎 But dayum the FM9 is just beautiful 🤩
Badass playing and setup. Love that Suhr! I'm a big fan of the Neural DSP plugins, especially the new Petrucci one, but the FM9 does sound very alive and I've always preferred real amps to modeling because of those subtle nuances. Would you say the FM9 has a similar response to that of a real valve amp? Liked and subbed!
Yes the plugin sounds great but the fractal can be way more versatile plus more IR as you can use more effects and I believe a bit higher quality but fractal all the way but good call on everything nicely done good demonstration
You didn´t say anything about the FM9 waitlist haha! by the way, Im on that waitlist since october 2021 and still haven't heard when the next batch will be available. If anyone has any info, please share. Cheers!
does the fm9 feel better to play compared to the neural dsp plugin? I've had people tell me that fractal overall feels much more like a real amp compared to anything out there! Plz let me know!
Both sound very good. For my ears the fractal is more expressive and full. However I don’t think you can go wrong with anything these days. The technology is amazing and I doubt any listener of your music will question what you’re playing through. Lol. Great video! I’m biased to fractal because it’s what I use. Lol.
Great playing Josh. Question please- When did you get on the FM9 list? I was on by day 2 but still no FM9. They said maybe this year. DAY2! Making customers wait ~1 year is ridiculous IMO. Line6 and Neural can deliver in a week- they also use semi-conductors. I liked the FM9 for the reasons you stated. It has that magic. Also, easy to switch using the footswitches. Far more versatile. That said, the Neural plug-in's are my favorite plug-ins. They sound great and for many can be a cost effective solution for casual playing.
@@JoshNamba Thanks I bet you're glad to have it. I feel like many others have gotten there's ahead of me though they assured me that wasn't the case clearly it is. Is. I'm getting impatient at this point one year is ridiculous I literally signed up within hours of it becoming available
@@MOAB-UT lots of other companies use semi conductors and that’s the issue Fractal has. Line 6 etc are much bigger companies with significantly larger buying power, and whenever Fractal are allocated a shipment they are essentially being outbid. It’s very difficult for them as obviously they want the FM9 to sell like hot cakes, but there’s nothing they can can do until supply gets back to normal. I don’t work for Fractal btw, no affiliation at all. I’m on the waitlist since sep 2021.
@@samwilcockmusic Good points Sam. Something is up- not sure it is just that simple but maybe. I highly suspect Cliff & Co. are going to announce an AxeFXIV this year or next, then magically, you watch, the FM9 will be readily available. I very accurately predicted the FM9 so I am good at guessing timelines with FAS. At $1,600, they can afford to buy semi-conductors. These parts are not expensive. I was an EE major. We had them in buckets for pennies. This is a business driven decision IMO. I have been on the list since Day2- still nothing...meanwhile, others have gotten theirs who got on after me. I heard from them last month- they said there is no ETA. I then asked for a discount on the available AFX but they said no. I essentially told them a year wait is stupid and don't release a product you know you don't have. I don't think he liked that.
The Fm9 has more harmonic content. The Neural sounds good but is more flat less full and alive. Yes in a mix situation you're not gonna notice this thing very much but playing is more of a subjective thing and a sensitive musician needs to feel certain things under the fingers. Anyway great video. 👍
Tone different. I prefer Fractal here, but I have preferred Neural in another video... Quality wise, I don't see a clear winner between the two. However, when it comes to live playing, I'd avoid having a laptop on stage.
Fractal wins all day for me, I've owned the FM3 for a yr and a half now myself and imo in your demo the fm9 sounds fuller and like there's more body to the tone if that makes sense. Both sound great but the fractal sounds a bit better and more rich imo.
@@JoshNambaya, it’s a great time to be alive for us musicians, there’s so many great options for gear it’s hard not to have option paralysis at times 😂
Hey everyone! Links to download the presets for the FM9 and Archetype Plini are available in the description box. Enjoy!

came to see the comparison, stayed for the music and your playing style. Now "Reunion" is one of my favs on Spotify. :)
Man thank you so much!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
You know what sounded really good in this video? Your playing.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Good call on the fractal man they're still the kings they had it figured out over a decade ago I still use the axe 2 and love it !
Can’t go wrong with Fractal!!
Agree, Still using the Axe Ultra
@@Bigirondoug nice that's good to hear glad to see the ultras are still alive!
Why FM3 was not recorderd in stereo delays like neural?

To my ears, the fractal sounds a lot better, tone is more rich and full. The plugin sounded more flat and boxy to me. Killer playing man 🤘🏼
Thanks Bryan!
great comparison, thanks this was very helpful

Hey thanks man! I think real amps still are the best- but the FM9 is the closest I’ve ever felt to the feel and response of a real tube amp
Can you please share your FM9 preset for the lucky few of us that got our hands on one?
Sure! Just uploaded it to Axe Change. Will put the link in the description box!

The fractal is the closest modeler to feeling like a real amp that I’ve tried

My thoughts exactly!
Fm9 wins for me, but the tone on the Neural is crazy for the price

They both sound great but Fractal is the winner here.
Fractal all day!
The resonance of the guitar came through with the dsp🎸🔊🎶

Thanks! Yes I agree- I think both are usable and sound great in a mix context. But fractal definitely feels better
Great demo Josh, I've been ha Fractal man for about 5 years now and use an Axe-Fx III, feel free to check some of my video's out. Subbed!
FM9. I like it much more than the plugin. More harmonics content.

Fractal for cleans, saturation Ach. Plini is more realistic, more defined middle range !!
The Arch. Plini definitely has a special midrange thing going on!
@@JoshNamba That's what I mean, and the reason I prefer it over the Fractal's overdrive !!
The neural DSP is cool.

@@Theability83 so true!
Fm9 is darker,I like it more for my personal taste
FM9" Much more articulate, punches through a lot better.
FM9 has more body and depth than the Neural plugin
Yes I think so too!
Fractal by a large margin...plugin doesn't even compare.
