I bought a dovetail saw and a sash saw of his maybe five or six years ago. I thought about picking up one or two others from him, but the wait times kept increasing every time I checked back (rightfully so, as he did beautiful work). The last time I looked at his site I saw that he had shut down production because of his health issues, but I just sort of naturally assumed that he would recover and maybe be back to with within a few years. The only words I exchanged with the man were asking about the wait time for my order, and then letting him know that they were beautiful pieces when I finally got them, but this still hit me pretty hard. I don't know that any of his family will see this comment, and I know it won't make the loss any easier, but he was truly a special man whose impact in the woodworking community will be felt for a long, long time.

Seeing Jon Stewart trying to get justice for those exposed to burn pits before a Congress that does fuck all... They should be doing SO much more for veterans than they currently are.😓

Yeah. It took 20 years to get a bill passed during this administration to help vets exposed to toxic smoke. Only because the presidents son died from this exact same way too. Sad as fuck how i have seen my friends pass away not only infront of my eyes but all around me for years afterwards. I wish nothing more than having never signed up.

Look at the voting records. All 11 senators voting against the bill when it passed are Republican. The entire opposition of this bill was from Republicans. Look at the voting records for anything that helps people instead of corporations and you'll see a trend
Both sides are absolutely not the same and it's time people stopped repeating that lie.

However, border policy has only gotten tighter during this term. You are able look this up. It is verifiable, and the reason why it still isnt good enough, is because the chamber of commerce craves cheap disposable labor. Immigrants are being thrown to the wolves just like politicians did with me and my friends. Fight the right problems, not some family trying to save their life.

I own a custom 5 saw set he built me dovetail, carcass, tenon, bench top, and halfback. I think of him and our phone conversations every time I’m in the shop. They don’t each get used everyday and sometimes I turn to a different saw L-N or PAX depending on the specific need and how the saws are set up, but just the sight of them reminds me of how kind, honest, and poised he always was with me. I knew his last operations officer pretty well as we had both worked together in other units concerning some of the same matters; he said of Erik that he was a stellar Marine and a fine man. My time spent with him after we had both left the Corps behind us was enjoyable and therapeutic at once. We both live is areas where there are nearly no Marines and it was always uplifting to share some time with someone who spoke the same language and held the same understanding of men, the nation, and the world as it actually is; not what the powers want people to believe it is. Thanks Rex for the kind words 🫡

Erik, we as a country and as vets are fighting to get at least some semblence of justice for those who were exposed to deadly chemicals and burn pits in post 9/11 service, as well as vietnam and the gulf war. Its gonna be a long fight to get everybody the help they need. I wish Erik's family the best, and would ask everybody to be vocal about support for the PACT act, as it'll help countless veterans live a long and happy life after what theyve sacrificed.

I don't know how Rex knows, but I talked to Erik about a year ago. He was stationed overseas in Afghanistan on a base that was adjacent to an Afghan landfill. It is common practice for them to burn the trash - no matter what is in it. The smoke was black and acrid, and Erik and his comrades were "down-winders" of constant exposure to that. Erik indicated that he felt that was the root of his cancer. Hard to tell, but it's plausible.
