Silver + Oxygen = Paraffnium. This one is HUGE, because Paraffinium is probably one of the worst basic minerals to try to mine manually (many times you see a node pop on the scanner, you go there, and it's 90% dirt with a few sprinkles of Paraffinium). sometimes you can find it on stations or pilots, but easiest thing I think is to just refine it from Silver and Oxygen. Also, I'm sure many people know, but the h2->Jelly->h2 doesn't work anymore, they nerfed that since the video. It's ok tho, pilots sell Jelly often enough that you can still get way more h2 than you could possibly need. Just find any rank 3 economy star and land on the station and check the pilots. Just 1 pilot selling it will have 150+ which is almost 5,000 h2 and it will only cost about 50k units.

This happened a long time ago when I first got the game on Steam, but somebody dropped me a 10 stack of this strange resource at complete random.
I had no idea what it was for and was even hessitant to pick it up but I did anyways (for reasons I don't remember) and found out that the resource had an extremely high sell value. Sold all of it at a mark up, got myself as decent of a cargo hauler as I could, and just went traveling.
Now I have an S Class living ship, an A Class Sentinel Interceptor, and a B Class Capitol Freighter (Haven't found an A or S yet.) I still have that old Cargo Hauler though, I couldn't bear to get rid of it since it was the first ship I had ever got. It reminds me of that person's genuine generosity, so I keep it.

For the minerals, etc once I have the recipe for power I just setup a string of single room bases as I explore the galaxy. A decent amount of time you can get both a mineral and a gas within acceptable range of a power source. Over time, when i visit them I bolster their output/storage so just about every one I have a full stack of 9999 or more that I can portal to and collect every 24hrs. And as I get the engine upgrades to visit red, green and blue stars, things like Activated Indium get added as well.
Those recipes though are very hand early on until you can establish your base/portal network.

You'll never want for Chromatic Metal, Sodium, Oxygen or DiHydrogen ever again. The bare exposed zones with the 3 types of rock are good to check first, then the scattered/broken under layer rock found everywhere else. I can usually find at least one world per system with these easy materials. Exotic and lifeless worlds are prime examples.

The refiners shown are from an old base, the footage was taken a few days ago, you used to be able to place them that closely.
You still can via glitch building however, I'd recommend @Beeblebum for videos on how to glitch build, look for his latest coverage of it, it has changed a lot over the years.
In case you're concerned about glitch building being exploitive, at least in the aesthetic sense, it is supported by hello games with sharing many bases made with the techniques, though using it to increase resource gain via more refiners etc is on the line, many bases exist with that advantage that were built without glitches

Ive been playing A LOT in vr recently and I have left stuff in my base refiners for real time hours system hopping and doing random things. So far nothing's disappeared yet on current update. EDIT: Ishould specify i am playing the PC version from Steam.

one of my main issues with this game is... once you get all those resources, what are you gonna use them for? it's very much pointless.

Craft industrial goods for a massive payout and then use the cash for collecting & upgrading ships & multitools.

If you refine pure ferrite gives you magnetic ferrite, why you spend platinum and ferrite dust if you have to spend pure ferrite too? The same exactly thing is about chromatic metal! You need to refine only copper to get chromatic metal, why you spend silver and gold with it? The same thing with cadmium! Needs only cadmium to get chromatic metal!!!

It all comes down to return on investment. For the first example. It takes 2 pure ferrite to get 1 magnetic ferrite OR you can spend 1 platinum, 1 pure ferrite, and 1 ferrite to get 12 magnetic ferrite. When you start needing large amounts of resources it comes in handy using these other resources that you may have a farm for so that they are essentially free for you.
In general an oxygen farm really helps for most things since they nerfed how accessible it is to get oxygen. The silver, gold, and platinum are handy resource multipliers so you don't have to wait around so much for pilots to actually have what you want. Although for me the bigger issue is they only have small stocks and I usually want a lot more so I don't have to bother with it for a while.

amazing there is no recipe book in this game. HG does so much right with this game, but far too much wrong.

If it is UI/UX, you can bet it is done wrong. If it is style and atmosphere, it is most liekly done right.

300B would take a very long time as I've only been able to process 2000 Tainted Metal every 15 minutes in a Large Refiner and I still haven't figured out how to do the do with Quicksilver

This is no longer accurate adding oxygen to certain things does not actually increase the amount you get back from it now it will change whatever you're getting or give you a different output
