This is a stunning achievement to have watched. I clicked on this video thinking I would hang for 5 or 10 minutes, I ended up watching the whole damn thing! I was just amazed at the skill you've achieved with this game. A 120 star speedrun is really where the skillset lies. This was beautiful.
The only part of this game I could speed run as a kid was the room with the piano in it.. Terror was a good motivator

never realized until now that the sound effect for collecting red coins in the original japanese version doesn't get pitched up higher with every coin, it just stays the same. weird!

That means that on average, he got one star every 49 seconds. Thats crazy if you think about it.

Honestly, first time I watched a world record holder play 120 stars and it is jaw dropping the level of skill that a human can attain in this game. To be able to do this pace and skill level consistently for nearly 100 minutes is just mind boggling. It scares me to think how much this person has practiced to achieve this ability...
yea it's like in anything for real, if you want to become good at forging, painting, drawing, modeling, swimming, tennis boxing poker etc etc it takes years and years of practice and dedication.... and failures lol

24:50 to 25:07 has to be one of, if not the SMOOTHEST star in the game. That's why this game is perfect for speedrunning

I know you told a joke but that's what gaming used to be. You had to figure everything out by yourself unless you bought a guide. Every new milestone (star in Super Mario 64's case) was celebrated. Today's gaming means the moment a game is released somebody is streaming until they beat it, new next day there's a walkthrough. Not as satisfying as it used to be
