This video is OBVIOUSLY wrong. Toad in the Basement is an incredibly hard star that tests your morality, patience, and philosophy on life as a whole!

I feel the same way when looking at all the Shrine puzzles in Breath of the Wild
NoobSlayerAdvanced at least that game there are many ways to do things because the devs have you elemental tools. They had to know that people would do things the unintended way. In Mario 64 I think it was just an early 3d game and they underestimated player’s skill. Now in odyssey, they know this and put coins in hard to reach places for all skilled players

@@octi4684 why? any casual person can do it with ease and in fact i when i first played the game 15+ years ago remember doing that star by accident doing that. Like hidden teleports to stars should be counted as intended as the devs did put that there knowing casuals would explore

Are you going to do ranking all 150 stars in SM64DS 3 or 4 months later?
If so, TTMs 100 coin star is one of the hardest, because after collection a bunch (around 50) from the slide, you can no longer go back to the rest of the level, so i had to collect all of them in the main level (there's barely enough), a lot of them are very tedious requiring you beat all of the enimies and use Mario's wing cap to collect some in the sky.
If i were to do it, it would basically a list of which stars get harder with the DS's controls and which stars are broken by just playing as luigi.
Tbh I believe the BBH switch star is the hardest,the timer is veeeeery short : it was the last star i grabbed

Every Star with an easy-to-learn unintended strategy:
105. Shoot into the Wild Blue: There are very easy wall jumps you can make to do this cannonless.
103. Chip Off Whomp’s Block: This is Super Mario 64. You can ground pound through his body as he’s falling.
96. Shocking Arrow Lifts!: NB mentioned this, but you can just long jump to the star with no skill required.
94. Get a Hand: Entering this stage with time stopped and climbing to a certain point gives you a clear shot to long jump to the star.
91. Peach’s Slide Under 21 Seconds: This also applies to the normal version of this star. With proper movement and momentum, you can ricochet off some walls to fall to the end of the slide to finish in 13-14 seconds.
88. Blast Away the Wall: This is a completely unintentional speedrun strategy that takes a little time to get used to, but you can do the cannonless glitch pretty consistently with some practice.
83. Fall Onto the Caged Island: This can be done owlless either with precise wall jumps, or by long jumping from the top of the fortress, which I find to be more consistent.
81. Mysterious Mountainside: If you know where the slide spits you out, you can easily maneuver a jump to grab it without the slide.
80. Through the Jet Stream: Time your swimming to grab the star with no Metal Cap necessary. The timing takes some practice, but that’s it.
75. Shining Atop the Pyramid: Again, this is Super Mario 64. You can jump kick up slopes without slipping.
71. Through the Jet Stream: Just like in Dire Dire Docks, just perfect swim to the star.
70. Metal-Head Mario Can Move!: I’m pretty sure a properly-timed kick off the caged wall will give you enough momentum to hit the switch without the Metal Cap.
69. Wall Kicks Will Work: Just side-flip and wall-jump off the back wall and onto the bridge.
55. Vanish Cap Red Coins: You can wall-jump into the cage with no Vanish Cap, though it doesn’t change getting the reds.
49. Scale the Mountain: Right off the bat, there’s a spot you can clip into to upwarp to the Fly Guy to save time.
47. Red-Hot Log Rolling: You have a Winged Cap. Use it.
35. Breathtaking View from Bridge: This jump isn’t even that hard without the box.
20. Snowman’s Big Head: Time some wall-jumps to avoid the bridge entirely.
12. Timed Jumps On Moving Bars: Two words: STOP TIME.
8. Blast to the Lonely Mushroom: Possibly my favorite star because of this strategy. Just go to the Fly Guy, jump off him, and flutter to the star. It’s immensely satisfying.
6. Tricky Triangles!: Um, you don’t have to jump on all of the triangles. Double jumping off the second triangle gives you enough height to reach the second-last one.
I think it’s safe to say that super Mario 64 is the hardest 3d Mario game

I audibly went "WHAAT!" when I saw the vortex chests star 10th easiest: the janky hit boxes make that last chest difficult to get, and then you die and have to do it all over again. It's definitely in the harder half of stars.

I would like to say that he listed them in the intended way to get to them. There is definitely more than one way to get most of the stars listed here. Such as lava land log rolling, you can teleport to the wing cap and just fly to the star, skipping the log rolling entirely or Big Tiny island lone mushroom star? Youc an journey to the top of the stage and long jump to the mushroom.

You could have mentioned that sliding the penguin disqualifies you from skipping part of the slide, which is not the case without.
A huge buff from your Top 15 Hardest Super Mario 64 Stars
How is "Through the Jet Stream harder than the Mysterious Mountanside slide which requires to go to almost the top of Tall Tall Mountan, is hidden, and if you fall you have to get through the whole level again??
funny tip: you can easily reach the star on the top of the pyramid riding a koopa shell towards it from the very beginning of the course, turn left as you hop on the shell and avoid a tornado that suddenly pops up from the quicksand near the red pillar

Shocking Arrow Lifts was always funny to me because the intended path wasn't even like the third most obvious way to approach this box
Btw, for rainbow ride, you can actually do it without the blue coins. I found a youtube video I followed that did it without the blue coins since rainbow ride has a total of 146 coins, so 116 are not blue coins and there are 16 coins extra if you miss any.
I only played Super Mario 64 DS, so I always used the Power Flower to get the Big Boo's Balcony star and never knew the original way to get it.
I had no idea ground pounding the giant goombas gave you blue coins, why did I make that one so hard for myself 😂
When I was a kid I fell off those slides ALL THE TIME. The only reason I can do them now is because I developed the skill to do them. Not saying they're super hard, but definitely harder than lots of the red coin stars, watch for rolling rocks, the chest stars in JRB, etc. They don't have to be way high on the list but come on...
Now we need a ranking every time piece and ranking every dlc mission in a hat in time

For me , the hardest star is « Stomp on the Thwomp » . I got 10 Game over screen . That was so annoying.
The easiest to hardest thing kept throwing me off, I kept thinking it was worst to best and then got thrown off again by all the 100 coin and red coin missions being at the end.
you can complete shocking arrow lifts by going in at the lowest water level and walking to a warp that brings you right next to the star lmao

For a speedrun route of shocking Arrow lifts there was method that was done by performing five frame perfect wall kicks
The 100 coins from dire dire docks was... so fricking exhausting for me. :D
Slip sliding away was very difficult because of the crappy controls.

108 may have been easiest safety wise (like no real big enemies) it was still a massive pain to try and walljump with those controls, physics and camera angles lmao

Agree with number 1. As a kid I beat the game and got to 119 stars without too much trouble. The remaining star was RR 100 coins, which I probably tried dozens of times and just lost patience with. My save file stayed at 119 for probably 10 years until I finally went back and got it.

That's honestly the only 3 stars i hate when i do a 120 stars run.
When i do a 70 stars run, i just complete the first 8 stages (100 coins include), the Bowser Submarine on stage 9 and all secret stars except Over The Rainbow.
That makes exactly 70 stars.
Erratum: you only need 13 secrets stars. You already need 70 stars to collect the last secret star (Sky Bowser 8 Red Coins).
On my DS the shoulder buttons are broken, so I had to collect all 150 stars without being able to long-jump or ground-pound.

So yeah, I didn't know you could butt stomp the Goombas in Tiny Huge Island and get 5 coins, I only jumped on them and got 1 at a time. It was a pain to get all 100 like this.

i didnt feel like the Battlefield red coins or 100 coins were tough at all. that was the first stage that I was able to get 100 coins in.

For me the most difficult/annoying stars by far are the 100 coin stars. Especially SSL, TTC and RR.

EDIT because I receive reply notifications almost every week which drives me crazy:
In Super Mario Odyssey there are 880 unique moons (technically 836 because of the multi moons which count as 2 extra moons) but in order to 100% the game (having a star on your save file) you need to collect every moon in every kingdom which sums up to 880 at the Odyssey counter. If you want you can max out the counter to 999 by buying 119 moons in the shop and then there will appear a hat on top of Peach's castle, which doesn't count to the 100% if you consider 100% as having a star on your file. If Nathaniel Bandy ranked all Power Moons in Odyssey he had to rank the 836 unique moons (because 880-2*(number of multi moons) = 880-2*22 = 836). It's hard to rank 119 shop moons.

Spoiler alert, most of the moons in Mario Odyssey are tedious busywork and less than like 25% of that 880 moon count are any kind of challenge at all.
I remember when playing this game as a kid, number 10 was the very last star I got. The 100 coin stars were also really difficult and some of the last I collected (especially HMC and Rainbow Ride). Great list and video!

@Papa Juan Pablo With a lot of dedication and skill I have with video games, I was able to get all 120 stars within 2.5 weeks(nearly 3 weeks). It was my first time playing too, I actually did this recently.

It is one of the easiest stars to get, but back in the day if you were playing without any sort of guide it was difficult just to find.

Agreed. Few stars in this game makes my backside pucker but that's one. No risk of death but fall and the climb back up suuuuuuucks. And Tiny-Huge Island 100 coins is also more tedious for me. Especially getting the red coins and blue coins in that chamber. One wrong move and it's back to coin 1.

@@sammelo2912 The side with all the gusty islands is hell, I recently 120 starred SM64 thanks to the 3D All Stars and never went over there once. Just gotta plan accordingly.
Been trying to get that star on 3D all stars for my first ever 120 star completion. But the inverted camera and running back after a death, is gonna be the roadblock for me to 100% the game sadly.

I found #110 chest in the current to be one of the most frustrating that I have gotten so far. The hit box to open the last chest was all fucked up and I constantly kept getting pulled into the vortex. My blood pressure had to have been pretty high by the time I finished that one up 😅
