Was never much of a fan of Daria but this is probably one of the best shots I've seen in a long time. Incredible shot.

@@bmpjjaa I've seen Alcaraz highlights. And I haven't seen anything extraordinary. Sure, he's fast and strong. He's a man, if you haven't noticed. If he had the strength and the speed of a woman he'd be in trouble to get into the WTA top 50. Not enough skill in the (modern) men's game, it's just athletics.

She plays maddeningly passive tennis given her ability.
She used to play with a lot more variety when she was very young - just don't know what happened.

Yes, I remember she played a tweener in Roger Cup against Vinci in 2017. It is on youtube. It is amazing she can get such precision and power for the tweener.

Let's say it's at least the shot of the tournament, and certainly the sho of the year regarding female tennis. What makes it even better is the high quality shot-making of the whole point.
She hit the ball right back to her opponent about 3 times. That is what led to her opponent hitting the drop shot that started the sequence to the tweener. To be in the tops of women's tennis you can't just hit the ball right back to your opponent so often.... just being honest...
Not sure if you're serious here: the point leading up to that shot was pretty much utter trash, just a training drill in which both respective coaches would have been pulling their hair out.

Well, Dasha ist against the war. She was very clear about and has criticized the Kreml/russian goverment. She also came as gay, so the russian "Press" demolished her over the last year. I remember watching a video Daria taught Osaka how to play tweener a few years ago.
Started to watch tennis since 2009. I think this is first WTA twinner winner I've ever saw ( except the Mary Pierce point )
Jabeur does tweener winners all the time
Zheng did one as well a short while ago
There's been a good five or so already this year. Kasatkina has a couple of others in her career. Jabeur does them semi-frequently. Iga's done some in doubles. Then there's the iconic, front-on Mary Pierce tweener vs Monica that is probably top 5 greatest shots of all time, men and women.
Parks did one in Lyon, a lob
I love Daria's tennis. I always watch to see how her opponents attempt to beat her. They have to hit so many winning shots to beat her. She is the ultimate backboard that hits the corners and lines with pace, so it's so difficult to defeat her. You almost have to be a top 5-6 player to hit hard enough and accurate enough to hit enough winning shots. Always fun to watch their frustration.

If you watch her Wimbledon match against Kerber (either semifinal or final) when she’s like 21 or something, the commentator mentions that she would practice tweeners for hours quite often. At some point in the match, when she is losing quite horribly, he brings up her lack of discipline (which she has made leaps and bounds in that department since imo), saying that devoting that much time to a single trick shot exemplifies her lack of discipline, and essentially tied that to her losing the match. Look at her now. Those hours payed off. I love Dasha💚💕 in my top three favorite players. She the wild horse of tennis, and despite adding discipline to her game, she’s never been broken.

She is rated properly. She has amazing ground game, heavy FH and good touch. But her serves, especially 2nd serve is not letting her to be top 3 player.
