    I have the glycerin 21. It’s excellent for easy runs and recovery runs. I like doing strides with them as well. It’s harder to go fast in these but it’s not uncomfortable. I think it’s because of the lack of sink in this midsole.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад

      Both these are so comfortable that it’s not a problem to do strides or pick up the pace, but that’s exactly when the weight becomes noticeable. Still, if you train in these your lighter shoes will feel REALLY light when it’s time to use them!

    You are truly the best reviewer. Always listening to your viewers, interacting with us and a positive attitude even if you don’t like the shoe for you.
    I had the glycerin 20 and ghost 15 and both were too firm. The glycerin was so firm, my feet hurt so I hesitate to even try the 21. Day two in the ghost 16 and so far so good. I prefer the higher drop for casual use due to a post tib injury. Plus with all the max cushioned, it’s nice to have something somewhat normal. ghost gets my vote.

      You’re way too kind! Thank YOU for being a part of the channel!
      It’s funny you found the Glycerin 20 too firm but the Ghost 16 is ok. On paper they use the same foam, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Brooks tweaked the formulation from last year to this year! Or perhaps it’s just the lower stack and higher drop you like. Either way, I’m glad the Ghost 16 are feeling ok so far!

    Another great review, thank you.
    I’ve not pulled the trigger on a Brooks just yet, maybe one for the future.
    Not related to the Brooks per se, however I never feel like a runner with an over plush trainer (heel collar / tongue etc).

      Cheers for always watching! I know what you mean about the plush trainer! Brooks has some...less plush updates coming out in the next month or so that will make us feel more like a runner!

    Nice to see this comparison. I had some Ghost 14s and Glycerin 20s and now I have some Ghost 15s with not a lot of miles so far. They have both been great for daily training. I really liked the softer feel of the Glycerin 20 compared to the Ghost 15.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +1

      They both fit the bill for daily trainers and now the Ghost is using the same foam as the Glycerin, it's a bit harder to choose!

    Thanks for the comparison, Matt. You made a salient point regarding breathability. Here in the Central Valley, it gets super toasty; so, breathability is critical. I'm curious if the DNA foam is similar to that in the Hyperion Max, your shoe of the year last year, and my go-to 10K racer. My sister swears by her Glycerine 21. I'm leaning towards the Ghost because it's closer to the old Pure Flow that I used across several training blocks. I have $35 credit at RoadRunner Sports. Road trip. Woohoo! Cheers, Matt.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +1

      No, I don’t think the DNA Loft v3 in the Ghost/Glycerin is anything like the DNA Flash used in the Max. The Loft v3 is a lot softer and easier feeling. The Max, with Flash, feel slightly firmer but also much faster.
      I’m looking forward to the Hyperion Max 2 (I have them but haven’t taken them out yet).

    (With reservation that this is what you do with the side by side running.) Do a loop with one shoe on each foot, on the second loop swap shoe. If the notion of difference persist, then there's something to it. If not ,...

    Yup I have had the ghosts last two iterations , not a bad shoe .. I really just wanted to find out why some people make jokes about it .. I found it fine (perfect word for it , fine) was it the most exciting shoe , na , but its dependable.. Does not really enhance your fitness level , but neither does it take it away. Both pair were good value for money , I suspect the 16 to be the same. Brooks does not mess about , it gets a brief and delivers on that brief.. no flexability , no creature conforts on its speed day shoes or tempo shoes .. just deliveres the remit with little fanfare.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +1

      You’re 100% right about the Ghost being just fine. That’s probably why they’re so popular, because we just want a shoe that does what it was designed to do.
      I think Brooks does well with their designs, but I think that’s easy to say because their shoes in the last few years just get better and better. I loved the Hyperion Max and Hyperion Elite 4 and I’ve only done a few runs in the Hyperion 2, but they feel (and surprisingly, look) great.

    I had the Glycerin 20 and now have the Ghost Max and I can tell you that the Glycerin line is a far better shoe. Wear was far superior in the Glycerin. Both are comfortable but to me the Glycerin is worth $20 more. Just my take🤷🏻‍♂

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад

      I agree with your assessment between the Ghost Max and Glycerin, but the Ghost Max is not the Ghost. The Ghost Max has significantly less rubber on the outsole than the regular Ghost.

    You asked about stack height preference a few videos ago. I previously only ran in mizuno which had a 12 mm stack height. I did start having big toe pain issues and decided that the stack height was too high. I switched to hoka because it was more in the middle. Granted I am a heavier runner... over 200lbs so that may have contributed.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +1

      I think you’re referring to the drop (or offset) rather than stack height. It’s confusing because Brooks lists their forefoot stack as 12mm in the Ghost, which is the same as the drop.
      A lot of Hoka shoes are at 5mm, which I find very comfortable.

    I don't see why so many people buy Brooks. They're still using EVA foam. It would be good to see them updating their tech and branching out into different foams.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +5

      There's nothing inherently wrong with EVA and they feel very comfortable to run in. With that said, I agree with you!

    • @donalmctavish2127
      @donalmctavish2127 Месяц назад +2

      @its_Matt_B_ in my experience EVA is firm when it's cold.
      People trust this brand and buy Brooks for brand reputation. If they branched out into better tech they'd make an absolute killing.
      I suppose they know their market and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Matt, you mentioned the outsole rubber should last 500 miles. Do you think that the midsole foams can last that long?

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +1

      I can’t say for sure because I haven’t personally done it with the DNA Loft v3, but I’ve had Ghosts in the past where I’ve put that many miles. I don’t see why this foam wouldn’t stand up to the same.

    Funny as I googled this comparison a few days back. And I'm leaning to the ghost 15 vs the 16. Year How does the 15 compare to the 16

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Месяц назад +2

      The fit and upper are very similar, but I much prefer the new DNA Loft v3 in the Ghost 16. With that said, the foam in the Ghost 15 is absolutely fine, but if I had to choose I would go with the new foam. I’m quite sure you’ll be very happy If you can get a good deal on the Ghost 15.
