Swirling flocks of shorebirds - spooked by raptor - Palo Alto Baylands

- Massive flocks of shorebirds swirl in formation, filling the evening sky of Palo Alto Baylands. I discovered during editing what had spooked these birds - a Northern Harrier. In a frame-by- frame you can watch it zoom in from the right at 00:08 and exit at 00:14 with no catch.
The scene is from the Bay Trail by the Adobe Creek Loop trailhead. The harrier spooks the birds on Casey Forebay on the south side which fly over my head to be joined by the flocks gathered for the night on Charleston Slough. Incredible species specific flock behavior.
American Avocets dominate the first shots which settle on the slough, followed by Dowitchers mixed in with some Marbled Godwits and Black Skimmers. The shot of flocks in flight is from September 22, 2019. The shots of resting birds on the slough is from October 3.
Welcome to BIRDING VISIONS - portraits and sound recordings of birds and their habitats, sharing the sublime beauty of nature. These wildlife videos are both documentary and impressions of an experience. I hope you get a sense of being there: from the Rock Wren of Willis Creek Slot Canyon, Utah, singing Whinchat in the rugged heathland of coastal Norway, a band of Arabian Babblers in Israel, to soaring Kites over Kyoto, Japan.
The playlists are organized by geographical region and topic (singing birds, shorebirds, etc). The 200+ videos are from many different places across the globe, with a focus on birds of North America and the Western Palearctic, including Europe, Israel and Morocco. Really amazing share! Lovely to watch!
Hi! Glad for that. Best wishes :-)
It still amazes me how the birds don’t crash into each other. Nice clip 👍
