  • For years I have been using a an engine building simulator called Dyno 2000. It allows you to input engine specs and plots theoretical horse power and torque curves. I featured this software in several of my 393W build videos and I have had quite a few questions from people trying to find the software so they can use it too. Dyno 2000 is no longer available but Desktop Dyno 5 (the latest version) can be purchased from Summit racing or directly from the manufacturer. In this video I show you how to use the basic functions of the software and provide a review of its functionality.

    I purchased this software after watching your video. I'm addicted !! 😅
    Just wanted to point out, that you indeed CAN compare one graph to another. You have to right click on the graph and "open" the other curve from your saved library. You can also select "direct comparison" from the right click menu, which then let's you make changes to the current model i.e. compression ratio, intake manifold etc.. and it will compare the new power numbers vs. the curve already displayed on the screen. Good stuff. 🍻

      It is addicting!! I have "built so many engines on mine just because I could not because It was an engine I was planning on building. Thank you for the tip on being able to compare graphs, that is a fantastic option!!!

    That old Dyno 2000 was eerily accurate in its prediction
    I had Dyno 2000 when I had initially put together my 393W back in 2006. At that time, the 393W kits being offered in 8.0:1 or 10.5:1-up and nothing in between. I wanted something between 9.0 and 9.5:1 to run on 87 Pump gas.. I found KB364 22cc dish pistons for ~9.4:1 with my 64cc aftermarket iron heads.
    My 393W Camshaft selection was also chosen using Dyno 2000, to try to maximize power while at the same time keeping it sniffer-test legal! Yes, it passed, and I street-drove - and towed with that engine year round for years. Later, when the car became emissions-exempt due to being over 25yrs old, I upgraded the camshaft to a still-mild hydraulic roller. Now output was ~380hp as calculated via weight/ET and MPH at the dragstrip - 3950 pounds with driver 13.06 @ 106.55 - through the stock-ish dual exhaust with catalysts . Here's the 'eerily accurate' part Dyno 2000 predicted 370-385hp!

      great story, thanks for sharing. I agree that it is outstanding software. some configurations are more accurate than others.

    Excellent .i got 2000 .2003..and five..almost identical when I hook car up to Dyno..or my engine to my engine stand Dyno..numbers are close enough for me and without out hooking up all the bs.. excellent video

    Having hard copies are a good thing. So many companies nowadays selling people a product to later not support it or shut down server or not allow offline use essentially selling you a product that you don’t own.

    Curious, we're working an engine that it, and it's parts, won't be in any of your drop down menus. Will this software work for us?

    • @dazecars
      @dazecars  12 дней назад +1

      You can enter the bore, stroke, and compression on a custom engine or pick something close and change the parameters. If you have flow specs for the heads that can be entered, and cam specs can also be entered. The short comings are carb and intake specs. There you are forced to use the drop down choices. I hope that answers your questions but if not let me know of other questions you might have and I will try and answer.

      @@dazecars Thank you for the feedback. What about heads, e.g., ours are wedge, staggered layout, with canted and splayed intake and exhaust valves? Are there choices for all of that?

    • @dazecars
      @dazecars  11 дней назад +1

      No BUT Flow numbers eliminate the need for specific configuration because ultimatly those design changes effect flow.

    Something I wish I had about 7 years ago. I may just get it and get a ballpark what HP/T the 383 stroker in my 71 Camaro is putting out. The fly in the ointment is, the intake has been ported and polished, runners reshaped. I've no way to measure that effect, except seat of the pants driving. My guess is, it's in the 400-450 range, but that's gut feel....... er butt feel.

      It is fun software to play with. I have built many a virtual engine just because I could. I think if you chose one of their "one size fits none" intakes "max flow" you could get something close to what you have.

    Are you aware if it can customized head types for things like siamese intake/exhaust ports for non standard heads? I got no response from that at all be e-mail. Trying to configure a 4 cyl 1275cc in a vintage Austin Mini. Thanks. And/ or I spied a British tab there...

    • @dazecars
      @dazecars  7 месяцев назад

      I am not fulley virsed with every option on this software but I believe the best configuration you can do for heads is flow numbers. If you have the flow numbers the shape of the port really doesn't matter as it would be reflected in the those flow numbers.

    AUTOMATION Game will Gove you a similar thing but in 3D and you can export your car to BeamNG to drive.

    • @dazecars

      I have not used that one but after looking into it it seams like it does not have nearly the options that desktop dyno has. I only scratched the surface of desktop dyno 5's options and capabilities. Being that Automation is making an entire car and the desktop dyno focuses just on engines makes sense it would be better for engines. With that said horse power and torque curves generated by automation could still be very useful in picking components. All this is conjecture as I have only used dyno 2000 and desktop dyno 5.
