  • @nahte123

    ...was the test administered properly? It's supposed to be rope cut (4-8 inches from the end), 2x4, then shave to show it didn't get dull with the previous tests. I don't doubt it could pass (and I know parts may have been edited out), and congratulations on the approval; just something I found strange.

    @tildessmoo 10 месяцев назад

    I like how the difference between the journeyman test and the master test is subtly different, yet the differences are enough that even a not-even-an-amateur like me can see the master test is way harder. Having to still be sharp after the cutting tests shows you can make an edge that's simultaneously thin, strong, _and_ durable, and then the 90° bend test on the journeyman test showing basic heat treat skills, but the master test requiring a thinner tang _and_ that the tang doesn't bend is obviously meant to test your ability to get not only a very good heat treatment, but also do it differently along the length of the steel. Plus having to do all that in damascus, which is inherently less strong than modern single-alloy steels and inherently variable, making the heat treating that much harder.
    Congrats on passing the performance test! Looking forward to buying a knife from Master Bladesmith Will Stelter someday when I've got the cash to share on such an indulgent gift for myself.
