that for sure hurt 2:19 watch it in 1/4 speed and you see how fast it whipped on your finger.
Handy to be able to trundle over to Alec Steele's Abandoned Workshop with stuff he is wishing he had in England.
That is the official title of that place
Is Sam (Ross Peak) running Alec’s old shop completely now? Wondering what the future is for Alec’s old workshop, or what happened to his crazy steel-framed bed frame.
Seriously tho what happened with the bed lol
i feel we need to know the craic with why the old Montana workshop is still fully stocked and kitted out.
I thought alec ghad given up that shop. Neat to see its still around. what do they do there now? Awesome vids and hope all is well :)
Alecs Shop?! Awesome!!
Oh! it's another Steel vs. Stelter! let's see which video wins this one... Go Will ! A little late on the publication but you can do it!!
1:55- i was totally expecting a square space segway lolol
I would have guessed Keeps.
BRAZILIAN JIU JUTSU is the art of folding clothes with the person still inside
This made me lol big time 🤣
i thought alec sold the montana shop?
I hate a stressful knife, build, but I also love it at the same time.
Very nice to see the old shop. And a bit sad
When it comes to electroplating the surface finish you start with, it is the same you get after plating. You really should polish the piercings before gold plating them.
Is Alec's shop in Montana just abandoned?
weird since he said he was selling it all...... if it is those powerhames aren't staying abandoned for long😂
Did finish carpentry for years with custom fire places, book selves, ect. loved how it was the fine details that mattered. Amazing work and vid. My eye doctor always told me to do eye exercises due to straining hours at a time.
I thought Alec ended his lease on this shop? Didn’t he do a whole video about?
Use black board chalk on your files it helps with the files not clocking up and gives a good finish as well
that file is terrifying... I would absolutely take an eye out on that thing
“Good as new…if you like slightly worse things.” 😂
Oh that variable speed on the die filer is pretty meat, its pretty close to being a CVT transmission.
If you want to save some cleanup time for after heat treating coat it in BBQ grill paint. the paint prevents oxygen from getting to the steel and creating scale but doesn't affect the heat treatment while being much easier to remove than scale.
love that you show the things going wrong(tell me about it!), enjoy the journey and many thanks for all the great content :)
"it's like chess. But you get choked"
Kinky.
Kinky
don't kink shame me lisa
I thought I wasthe only one lol
The problem is with grappling as you age - you are not so flexible, and injuries occur very easily with any type of it.
I love your work Will! One nit pick, 90/10 gas isn't really for tig welding. Straight argon will help the heat affected zone and oxidation
Longer videos, please. 😊
Did not know Alec still had his shop over there.
I was surprised by that too. Haven't watched alec's channel in awhile but I got the impression he was settled in England for the foreseeable future.
A lot of times trying to fix very minor problems lead to much larger ones. Its a very delicate balance and sometimes things just cannot be perfect.
Magnafluxing can show hidden defects. One of my friends was teaching himself forging and magnafluxed his almost finished blade. Cracks everywhere. He was hammering on it while it was not hot enough.
The image quality is so good, great work
Thanks for filming Will. 😁👍🏼
Hey will, I'm commenting because i have discovered a way to finish wood handles for my knives and i want to tell you about it. The way i do it is hand sand to 800 - 1500 grit and then buff it with carnauba wax. It gives it an amazing shine and seals it up perfectly. Highly recommend trying this method.
"Because of science" Hilarious.
1:52 STOP! Please, stop leaning over that machine, my anxietry can't handle it!
What about waving the knife around while he speaks? Even though the blade hasn't been sharpened yet, he does the same thing with sharpened knifes in other videos. He's going to get seriously hurt one day unless he starts getting more careful
Great job. Thank you 😊
Looking forward to the next truck update
I was wondering how you were getting your exercise, glad to know you are getting a workout and improving yourself physically. Keep at it.
Great content thanks for sharing
I love your videos Will, you have been a huge inspiration for me and now I have started making knives and I am even selling a couple to some friends.
The sound when your were cleaning out the crack with a burr reminds me of the dentist's office and I don't like it 😆
Same tool
"As good as new!, as long as you like slightly worse things." hahaha
Looooooking gawwwgus Will, looking forward to the next one
That is turning out rather cool i like it already ❤❤
Your channel is pretty freakin awesome.
I'm very interested in seeing what the finished product is going to look like
Good video man!
So far so good young sir. Stay safe.
I can’t believe he visited the old alec steel shop
Good save.
To get into tight spaces you can bend your tungsten, put it on a scrap piece of steel hit your pedal, when it gets white hot release the pedal and use a pair of pliers to bend the tungsten.
Loving this knife build Will!
What's happening with Alec's old shop?
Awsome vid
The knife is looking great, super unique. Plenty of material for insurance keep hammering on it's gonna look awesome.
Looks good 👍
I'd love to see your opinion on falkniven knives. Personally the modern Bowie is my favourite. Is it a contender for someone who can't afford a custom made one?
2:10 anyone else get anxious every time Will moved his head over the reciprocating file?
Woot!
I think its cool whether it explodes or not..lol also IMO you are already a master classman I think your chef knives are so cool compared to others.
I thought Alec shut down his shop in Montana.
Same
if you stuck the tungsten to it could have a tungsten inclusion , but would say you filed it out. Btw love you show both your failures and victories!
speaking about LMNT, and how many people are sodium deficient - this is why I am so frustrated by so many companies going the "low sodium" route with their foods. We NEED salt. And we're supposed to be getting salt from our diet. Restricting salt should only be done if your doctor tells you to.
Reminds me of the Demolition Man movie, when Sandra Bullock's character, Hershey, claimed that salt is bad for you - that line made me mad. Salt is a vital nutrient. We need it.
Due to high Aldosterone levels some people need no added salt. On the other hand, those with low Aldosterone levels may need a LOT. The average person does not need supplementation via LMNT, like...the vast majority. For some it is crucial though. You do you, we're all different.
Don't you just hate those little surprises that just pop up when you least want or need them to? Glad you got the blade blank corrected. Looking good.
Do you think that gold plating would work on electro etched touch marks?
Were those inbound crates or outbound crates at alec's shop
Oss brotha.
2:47 science
I thought Alex sold his Montana shop?
What's with the 7k pricetag for a half finished blade?
I didn't know it was possible to become a Master Smith without knowing how to pronounce Bowie correctly.
Will, you should hang out with the new King of Random, Jarom Rush!
Well life goes on ;)
It looks like lmnt actually has efficacious doses. Neat
Im just curious how much does your shop inventory, machines and tools are worth. Keep the good work !
Damn the flashbacks
That die file machine is a little scary for you to just be leaning over inches away from the reciprocating, pointy file. XD
getting sword breaker vibes there buddy
once you get your master cert you should do a video with a jiu jitsu black belt - roll with him and then teach him to make a knife. gordon ryan question mark
👍👍👍
Ok I’m going to need a more thorough explanation of how that variable speed filer works. I might need a diagram 😅
Same way a Bridgeport works
Think CVT.
Didn't expect will to share kinks today but here we are XD
It used to be that someone would work on a craft for their whole life before they can call themselves a master. Now you just work a few years until you pass a test and you get to call yourselves masters.
I am very close to 100% sure that a majority of people consume too much salt in their food, to the point that doctors warn for blood pressure, cardio problems and kidney problems. There may be certain trace minerals missing because people are not eating varied enough, but general salt is not the issue.
One of those pouches plus a Big Mac (without fries) is already your daily sodium (2000mg).
Correct, people in general lacking salt is bull shit. At least in the US.
Will, what gas are you using on your TIG welder? That's the largest cup I've ever seen. The end part of my cup is 12.5mm or 0.49 inch. I don't have a tiny cup either. I got a much smaller one somewhere. I'm using Argon gas.
Ah you explain it, argon. Grab a way smaller cup, this is overkill.
He said it was 9010 argon at 10:58
@@LittleGreyWolfForge yeah i added a comment to it. It's a huuuuge cup to use with argon
I've only ever tigged steel with pure argon. I wonder what the 10% is. Could be helium but i doubt they're doing much if any aluminum or copper in that shop so I doubt it.
At around 2:00 can you not shorten the file for this. Was waiting to take your eye out :-(
I was concerned about that too. If you look closely, the top bends away from his face.
I thought alec sold that shop in the state's
This must have been filmed several months ago. Didn't Alec close his shop in here in the States several months ago?
The shop is still there and Ross Peaks still works out of it
forgive me, but if that crack is in the tang how will it be seen in the final knife? the handle must have a matching hole in it?
Huh, I'm surprised Alec's old workshop is still there. Is Alec still struggling with selling off the stuff he can't keep? It's been like, 9 months since he declared Alec Steele Co. was shutting operations O.o Speaking of, the shop frontend website is still up, and his personal website is still saying he's based in Montana. He probably could do with fixing that (he doesn't need the full shop website just to continue the customer service part).
Testing for the degree of Master; be a Master and recognise failure. A true Master does not waste his time patching up cracks in pattern welded steel with a TIG welder and then cover it up with gold plating. Especially not showing it on RUclips before handing in the piece to the judge. Both you and the judge(s) will know, that knife is made of flawed steel.....
Start over. Show yourself and the world that you ARE a true Master who does the job proper, every time. Rather use a lot of time now and earn the title in the first try, than using (wasting) almost as much time doing a poor job now - and then have to do it over, if you fail. Spare yourself from failure.
All the best of luck to you, you have the potential to succeed, go kick some butt!

Musicality sounds scary for heat treatment, if it rings thats tention
Filing metal without a mask, I don't want to be his lungs in a few decades...
Do you want do be my lungs right now…? 😧 also filing metal doesn’t create dust, it’s makes shavings 😂
SLAP COUNT = 4
If you get master smith status for this I'll be shocked
nice glasses Velma
The sad thing about almost all sponsors in youtube videos is that they are US based, ordering from them as a European, it will double the cost with shipping and paying extra taxes.
one of the most important aspects of a mastersmith, is knowing when to abandon a subpar project, learn from it, then make the next one without the flaw/flaws. do you REALLY want a mastersmith grade knife, or one that only looks flawless?
The channel sponsor thing is getting OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!
$7k????
Nice, wish you my best on ur road to master smith, doing so keeps with your consistent positive contributions to the craft. Don’t hire a bunch of females along the way 😜
He seems so cool while he records but I’d be willing to bet there is plenty of cussing going on off screen…. Good luck in the heat treat Will!
Nah he's super religious
