Many of the young souls at that time werent even able to complete half of the stages. To them, Mario was the first never-ending wonderland that they explored. Fantasy. A true fantasy right there.
I dont have to imagine, I WAS a kid in the 80s and I played this on an arcade machine, I was probably 6 years old when my aunty gave me 20 cents to play this on an arcade that was outside a shopping centre in 1986 it probably was, I could barely reach the controls and I died before I could ever get past the 3rd set of pipes in level 1 but I was hooked from that day forth, however didnt get my own Nintendo until 1993 for my 13th birthday by which time ofcourse NES and this game were old news cos Super Nintendo was out but I'll never forget that first arcade session.

Always grateful for that.

Seems like a gip. Beating this when it came out was no easy feat and as a kid it seemed impossible. The least they could do is give you some new cool power up. Maybe hammer Mario since hammers were already in the game.

I'm 30 and I bought an old console at a garage sale for $20 with this game back in 2000 and used to play with my dad! Now 20 years later I'm playing it with my 8 year old son and my 4 year old daughter and they are just as thrilled as I was back when I was 10 in 2000... Good times.

Amazing nostalgia. I played this game from age 4 to 10 in the late 80s and early 90s. Funny how the music and everything takes me right back to my old tv with the rabbit ears. Some of these levels I haven’t seen in over 20 years but it’s like I’m right back there again. Such an awesome era

I used to play the game with my dad, back in the 90's, I only managed to complete the 8th level in 2018. I still have the game on a old console and managed to get it for windows, now I am teaching my kiddo's to play the game. Will always be a classic in it's own right.
