Super Mario Bros. (スーパーマリオブラザーズ Sūpā Mario Burazāzu?) is a 1985 platform video game internally developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo as a pseudo-sequel to the 1983 game Mario Bros. It was originally released in Japan for the Family Computer on September 13, 1985, and later for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America in 1985, Europe on May 15, 1987 and Australia in 1987. It is the first of the Super Mario series of games. In Super Mario Bros., the player controls Mario and in a two-player game, a second player controls Mario's brother Luigi as he travels through the Mushroom Kingdom in order to rescue Princess Toadstool from the antagonist Bowser.
The game has been highly influential, popularizing the side-scrolling genre. In 2005, IGN's poll named it as The Greatest Game Of All Time. The game also sold enormously well, and was the best-selling game of all time for approximately three decades, until Wii Sports took that title. The commercial success of Super Mario Bros. has caused it to be ported to almost every one of Nintendo's major gaming consoles. Nintendo released special red variants of the Wii and Nintendo DSi XL consoles in re-packaged, Mario-themed, limited edition bundles in late 2010 as part of the 25th anniversary of the game's release.

This game was way ahead of its time. I can't believe this is from 1985. Look at the graphics. Amaze balls!
Imagine a kid playing this masterpiece back in late 80s and early 90s. This game's volume is incredibly large considering it was first released in 1985. Many of the young souls at that time werent even able to complete half of the stages. To them, Mario was the first never-ending wonderland that they explored.
Fantasy. A true fantasy right there.
I dont have to imagine, I WAS a kid in the 80s and I played this on an arcade machine, I was probably 6 years old when my aunty gave me 20 cents to play this on an arcade that was outside a shopping centre in 1986 it probably was, I could barely reach the controls and I died before I could ever get past the 3rd set of pipes in level 1 but I was hooked from that day forth, however didnt get my own Nintendo until 1993 for my 13th birthday by which time ofcourse NES and this game were old news cos Super Nintendo was out but I'll never forget that first arcade session.

@@andraven952 The original Mario Brothers is probably what youre thinking of, that was released in arcades in 1983 as a spin off from Donkey Kong but the first Super Mario didnt appear until 1985, at least thats when it was trademarked, most westerners didnt get to play it til 1986 or 7 like myself.

For those wondering what happens after you find the Princess, the game restarts from World 1 but now with very many characters from the high levels. You get things like Flying turtles, the green thing that throws axes, the crawling things are replaced by the black bullet proof things etc. Game restarts but harder

Seems like a gip. Beating this when it came out was no easy feat and as a kid it seemed impossible. The least they could do is give you some new cool power up. Maybe hammer Mario since hammers were already in the game.

Nice complete playthrough. I got spoiled once I learned about the warp zones, when you do that you end up missing 2 / 3 of the game. World 6 and World 7 are hard to get through if you don't skip them. Some of those castles have a certain path you have to follow or it goes into an infinite loop like in Castle 7. I believe it was bottom, middle, then top to break the loop. Very hard to finish castle 8 with no fire flower, I only did that one time but I felt like a boss when I finally did it. 🤩

My mother worked hard for her money. When she bought me a Nintendo it was like hitting the lottery as a kid. But no matter how much fun we had playing these games we still spent a lot of time outside playing with friends. Friends, games, great music and movies. I had a great childhood. Always grateful for that.

Finally I can see Mario meet the princess❤. I played this game more than 10 years since 1988, but couldn't complete the stages. I focuses more on the coins😂. This video bring me back the old memories.
Probably this game isn't as good as the later games, but it still a masterpiece that revolutioned everything.
