Miss Universe 1999 was also a very beautiful year in Miss Universe history (especially with the fact that 2 georgous women of colour won back for the first & only time in MU). I was also happy that my country held this pagent and seeing another beautiful black woman like Mpule winning her country it's first ever Miss Universe crown . I hope one day MU can be held in T&T again but in Tobago this time, our beautiful sister isle.
I remember this when she won. I kept saying from the beginning of the Pageant that she was gonna win and when she did I was so happy for her :) She is a True Beauty.

It's been 10 years. Why can't the Philippines just get over the fact that during the final night, Botswana had a more natural and congenial aura. She captivated the judges that night. And as for her final question, she answered excellent. At any speech event, she would've placed high. She stated her opinion, the reason as to why she believed it, then she concluded summarizing her opinion.

This was somewhat of a surprise as to who won. A lot of people thought Spain should have won. Philippeans was quite beautiful and had one of the best evening gowns. However, I'm glad they chose Botswana as she will go down as one of the best Miss Universes in the history of the pageant from all the charity work she did, including her awareness on AIDS.
That was the year that 2 women should have been crowned that night. Botswana and Philippines. Philippines would have been a great Miss Universe as well, but there can be only 1 winner. Phillippines has won before that is ONE of the REASONS Miss Botswana won that night.
When I saw the official portraits of the contestants, I knew Mpule was going to win with Miriam being my second choice. Little did I know that they would ranked as I predicted.

I think that Wendy its really singing the song background, i saw a video at mu 1998 and she song at her interview, so i believe she is singing while she says good bye, very good, i love the way the say good bye.
I like these coincidences at Miss Universe: T/Tobago's Janelle Commissiong crowned the first African Miss Universe winner and now Wendy Fitzwilliam crowned the first Black African winner. Mexico's Lupita Jones crowned the second White African winner and later, Ximena Navarrete crown the second Black African winner.

Actually after this event when Miss Philippines ask if She will be given a chance to answer that question again, Her answer would be, "If ever She becomes pregnant during her reigh, She should Resign. Because, I feel that it is more important to bring forth a child in this world, and that she should dedicate the rest of the year to take care of Her self and the child within." Well i guess supposedly, would the best answer to that question..hehehe!!!
