Venezuela has had SIX (6) first runner-up finishes at the Miss Universe -- 1967, 1976, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2003.
miss universe pageant is not only about skin color it's also based on intelligence and confidence
by far a well-deserved Miss Universe.
i understand your point. note that both diana noguiera and helen lindes were both at the top of their swinsuit and evening gown preliminaries. both also topped their swimsuit and evening gowns during the pageant night which propelled them to the top 3.
But then others in the top3 gave better answers, making them the winners.
Miss Botswanna is beautiful ,,, those who say that she isn't are wrong in my opinion honestly it's that when she won her gown was not right nor was her hair just compair that look to the one on this video totally polished and refined... beauty comes in all colors !!!
Lara deserved it. I agree that the 1st runner up was pretty but Lara holds the record for the interview and many of the judges gave her the higest score, which is 9.99

No what I mean is that the girl who represented Spain in 1999 also gave a simple answer that ruined her chances.And the worst part of all is that in Miss Universe 1999 and 2000 the winners overshadowd the others with their final answers. But about the beauty and the charm of Helen I totally agree with you she was the best I love her. I hope I made myslef clear.

En 2003 por supuesto la más bella era Amelia Vega (Rep. Dominicana) Pero vale recordar que ella fue preparada una semana aquí en Caracas x Osmel Sousa... Mariangel Ruiz también desempeñó un buen papel, a pesar de que ese año Venezuela transitaba por una de sus peores crisis económicas. x esto nuestro país no iba a participar en el M.U. 2003, pero luego la O.M.V. consiguió el apoyo monetario necesario para enviar a Mariangel a Ciudad de Panamá.

I remember watching that Year's Universe..and from the begining India stood out...not only her poise, but in manner of speaking and such confidence...and it was the first time i felt like it was about time recognizing someone ethnic and not to mention nooo PLASTIC surgery's....it hasn't been the same since until Venezuela took the crown of this year 2009.....

En 2000, el promedio de las puntuaciones favorecía a la venezolana Claudia Moreno con 9.46, sin embargo la ganadora fue Miss India, Lara Dutta segunda en la tabla de puntuaciones.
yo creo que aqui se esta perdiendo de vista algo segun leo de algunos, miss universe debe de tener una belleza integral, ya que no solo debe de ser una maniqui sino una spokewoman para trabajar en pos de cusas aprovechando la plataforma del concurso y nadie,pero nadie gano en eso a lara dutta, en personalidad, elegancia y cultura!

1st Runeer Up - Philippines (Nina Ricci Alagao)
2nd Runner - USA (Lynette Cole)
Venezuela and Spain were OK for top 5...and Mexico should have made it in the semifinalists...How come Mexico and Philippines did not make it?

Yo tampoco entiendo porque se insultan tanto por alla. La Venezolana era una musa, la hindu sencillamente respondio mejor. Yo soy colombiano y vivi en Venezuela. En colombia y venezuela hay mujeres espectaculares por igual, pero en Venezuela el asunto es una industria en la que hay mucho presupuesto. A esas muchachas las preparan por meses y meses, las menten en el gimnasio, les dan clase de oratoria, las ensenar a caminar, etc.
I like Lara, but I personally preferred Priyanka as Miss India, just like I preferred Aishwarya in 1994... But that's just me ;)...

Contrary to what Sinbad said at the end, 2000 is the END of the second millennium.
Indian women are the candidate from asia that would win over the powerhouse latinas. And also the southeast region like philippines and thailand. Candidates from northeast region are not typically beautiful.
this is why i only watch miss world and not miss universe
probably those atributes are enough for you(i use to respect opinions of other) to me she is still so cold, just comparing to former MU Mpule(from Namibia) and Lara is like compare a torch and an iceberg...SALUDOS

Fijate yo tenia 15 años y yo y una prima lo estabamos viendo yo le iba Venezuela y ella a Miss India cuando gano me dijo que te dije yo sabia que ella ganaria!!!!!!
india es elegante y con mucha clase, quizas debio ganar venezuela pero todos saben que no gana por asuntos politicos y despues de que gano alicia machado en 1996 han sido relegadas a segundos o primeros lugares, es verdaderamente injusto pero no hay que desmerecer a india que sin ser muy hermosa gano la corona dignamente

En el caso del Swinsuit es cierto que Lara Dutta obtuvo el mayor puntaje, pero no hay que olvidar que Miss Venezuela sacó el 2º puesto en esta competencia. En el Evening Gown Miss Venezuela fue primer lugar y Lara Dutta quedó de 5º ò 6º lugar (NO recuerdo muy bien). Lo cual le daba mejor y mayor promedio a Miss Venezuela. Además, realmente no entiendo como Lara Dutta logro tener mejor puntaje en el Swimsuit que Miss Venezuela. MU 2000: Miss Spain ó Miss Venezuela. NEVER: Lara Dutta!

En realidad tu tienes problemas, como vas a decir que Barbara Palacios Miss Universe 1986 esta entre las 3 peore al igualñ que la Miss Universe 1999. Barbara es una de las mejores concursantes del Miss Universo en la historia de una elegancia insuperable.

who in the world gave this guy the role as host of m.u.? it seems (and it hears too) as if he was commenting a box or wrestling fight... ??? i sure missed Bob Barker this year more than ever (magnificent job from 1967 to1987)...as well as in 1989 when a serious bossy old mister hosted m.u. Daisy and co. did well in the early 2000's (sounds weird, right?) also the last 4 editions have been well conducted... but in 1989 and 2000 it seemed to be a sitcom show...
