    Mine is a 2005 3.8, The Fan Stays On, even on cold start and stays on about 3-5mins after I shut the engine off, along with a P0117 DTC.... Whats the cause? I though it was the ECT Sensor, But, I've changed that, but didn't solve the issue.

    do the fans run continuously when the AC is on? or does it go on and off? my 2004 impala goes on and off and only overheats with the AC on. I replaced the fans, thermostat radiator the three relays and flushed the coolant. and still does the same.

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  7 лет назад

      yes the fans need to stay on all the time and oh the HIGH mode when ac is running. I dont have the book in my possession anymore but i do believe the fans turned on through a separate relay when the ac is active. I think your problem may lye with a relay issue or computer.sensor issue not recognizing the ac is on when the switch is flipped. start with the relay first tho.

    no where is the fuse? I just thought it was the relay..and by cleaning it u unscrewed the little bolt above the head light where u pointed to?

  • @JazawaToad
    @JazawaToad 6 лет назад +2

    I actually didnt even have that issue, I was trying to find out what was causing it though so I cleaned it up anyways.
    then found out there was a blown 25 amp fuse below the fan relays lmao. Either way, this helped me to find my issue nonetheless so thanks!

      @@fonzothebeast I am curious though if you had a issue with NO fans at all or NO high speed fans ? Or no fan 1 low. I have the right side fan when A/C on. I just can't get both fans on high. My temp not bad till it gets hot out summer time. I was almost ready to try a new computer. I put a brand new crate motor & trans in my 05 grand prix. I had same issues with old motor. I thought maybe the block was sludge up from factory antifreeze. I replaced motor & trans because trans went out. I put a pressure switch in at 225,000. Trans quit completely at 275,000 miles. I thought cheaper than a new car. I escort oversize loads. So it's my money maker. I do all my own work. But I really hate electrical. Lack of understanding how the 3 relay circuit has me frustrated as hell. Any ideas on ground being the issue in your opinion ?

    Thanks for the explanation Alfonso. I cleaned this ground but for my low beam headlights not working. Can you tell me if your books tell you how to find the issue? I've replaced everything...I mean everything related to the headlights from bulbs, switches, fuses, and relays. Is it the BCM going bad?

      forgot to mention it is a 2002 Impala LS 3.8. The security light is coming on now, its been about a week or so but it doesn't prevent the car from running or starting. I was wondering is this caused by a bad ignition switch? but then I received a recall on the ignition switch today in the mail from the dealer...as for the low beam, I think it is a ground issue, you mentioned the CPU completes the ground to activate the relays?

    how did u clean it?? and can I look in the same spot to find mine on my 2k monte carlo. because I'm getting the same po481 and I changed the relays an still getting the code

      CHICAGORILLA with a bit of sand paper is all, did you check the fuse along with the relay?

    • @Nik3T3kk
      @Nik3T3kk 7 лет назад

      No I just bought a new relay...so to be clear all u did was clean the ground wire by unscrewing it and sanding it and then check then fuse??...how long after did it take for the code to dissappear? ?

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  7 лет назад

      CHICAGORILLA just disconnect and reconnect the battery, the code never came back

    Try not moving so much on future videos. Better camera illustration would help. Good process though on diagnosis.

    help me. I have 01 impala. cuts off electric included after driven a long distance. at least 10 straight miles. then won't start or get any electric when you try to turn key. one of my mechanics noticed the ignition relay was hot and that the car appear to crank fine once the relay cooled ive gad nabyv things replaced and checked. ignition switch replaced, MAF, crank position sensor etc. there is also a connector behind the motor I find and I don't know what it connects to its a small two wire harness. says PED. im also not sure if my fans are kicking in it not. car isn't over heating but I hadn't drive it a long distance to see if any chance in the cht off behavior.

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  8 лет назад

      Delrico Alexander without being there to diagnose i can't really help you much. It sounds like your mechanics are terrible troubleshooters of they have replaced multiple parts with no results, might be worth to get new ones. If you are not getting *ANY ELECTRICITY* I'm talking about not even interior lights coming on, it may be worth the effort to check the battery health ( load test free at auto zone), terminals, AND corrosion on the power side of the wire.

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  8 лет назад

      do you have anything aftermarket on the vehicle??

    • @ricobetrippin1114
      @ricobetrippin1114 8 лет назад

      Not that I know of. When im riding the car just shuts off and there is no power. Not nothing. No dash lights pr anything. After about 10 -15 mons it will turn over crank like nothing was wrong. Where you located?

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  8 лет назад

      Delrico Alexander if you Do not have dash or accessory lights it's definitely a battery/supply issue. best thing i could tell you to do is get a new/used battery check the terminals for tightness and cleanliness and check the power side cable for corrosion

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  8 лет назад

      more then likely it will be loose battery cables i think

      Lars Hetfield Why would you even complain man? This RUclips just saved me a whole bunch of money with this video. I was about to buy all the relays and spend hours figuring this out. It saved me. Just had my transmission rebuilt and the mechanic actually cut one of those two wires. They go to a harness right in front of the tranny. Don't be a little whiner

    my fans come on for no reason. Truck not even running and fans come on.

    • @fonzothebeast

      That sounds like it could be a bad coolant temp sensor, cooling fans are typically computer controlled to keep vehicles at a normal operating temperature and yes even after you shut your car off the computer still monitors the engine temp. So typically when they turn on for no reason they are getting false input from a sensor, usually the coolant TEMPERATURE sensor tells the computer when to turn the fans on and at what speed.
      You can do a resistance check on your temp sensor (cold) and heat up the sensor to see if the resistance goes down, or vice versa depending on design.
      The other possibility is that you have a ground switched load side wire that is shorted to ground. That is easy to check tho and plenty of videos already on youtube that show you how to do it. But my guess is on the erratic coolant temp sensor.
      so in total, if its cheap and not too much of hassle:
      REMOVE AND REPLACE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR.
