  • At the highest levels of martial arts, there are no styles. Only what works and what doesn’t. You as an individual create your style to best suit you that can be adapted to any moment. Becoming a Master of Wing Chun is a never-ending journey. As you can see Sifu Francis Fong has dedicated his life to sharing his art. As you can see he blends his wing chun with all other arts because they are all the same it is the fundamentals and movement that are the most important.

In any martial art, you should practice 110% so that during a fight or if you are attacked you will hopefully be operating around 85%. True masters like Sifu through mastering themselves and their art, they are able to operate at a higher level. You always have 3 enemies in any fight and the first 2 are yourself (ie, fear/uncertainty and adrenaline) once you learn how to deal with them;you can deal with your opponent. Also, there is a big difference between being in a fight which often is more predictable and being unexpectedly attacked in which the stakes may be death or serious bodily injury. Under these circumstances, you will deal with a concept that I like to call stress retention. Under extreme stress, you will only use a few basic moves that’s why training for muscle memory retention is so important. Just wanted to share my perspective and happy and safe training to everyone.

I can’t imagine the difficult of making such fine movements under stress but I’d love to see someone apply these in sparring. That would be amaaazing. Link me if you find/have any.

They are not training the right way for All of it to be reliable in sparring. The structure checks are not there. Forward pressure is lacking, etc.

Search for wong-sheung-leung and go to a school. Spar with them and find out what it is really about.

I wonder if Wing Chun people see the credibility Kevin lee has outside the Wing Chun community and understand how well he represents Kung Fu to non- Kung Fu people.

Thing is, no approach/style is perfect. Boxers train their entire youth, and adult life to hit and not be hit... what happens in a boxing match? They both miss and are themselves hit. You'll be hit in a fight, You'll miss the target, the vast majority of the time, regardless of what you've learned. Having something in your toolbox or several things will increase your success.

Seriously, for a new student training three times a week, how long would it take him to be efficient with Wing Chun?

@@sifuandrewmills9703 In four months, a non cripple or disabled, with no athletic gift, with 3 times/week training, will be very proficient against wing chun fighter with a year of training. Clinching will be added at end of 2nd month, and sparring at end of 3r month. Here is yours truly at 76++ The clip doesn't show clinching and sparring session. ruclips.net/video/Dv-vbV25SCQ/видео.html
