    I used to laugh at these videos. I thought they were BS. Then I started training judo and jiu jitsu and realized the hand fighting is what sets up the attack. Came back to this and holy shit... it's the same for striking. Wing Chun is like the deep study of engagement for all martial arts.

    It's so true... a highly skilled WC combatant will block and strike so quickly it's almost impossible to get the advantage in the first moment of a face to face fight. Size against that WC practitioner makes little difference. I'm 215, 5' 10" and a Judo/Jujitsu student of many years... the few WC guys I've trained with (all advanced and guests in our dojo) never get to a point where my size and strength give me the advantage. Before I can set up a throw or takedown I'm feeling the strike before I can see or react to it... it's spooky when your WC opponent is ultra experienced... and you have great respect for their effectiveness very, very quickly.

    I've been getting into Wing Chun more lately due to not being able to practice other martial arts I'm more accustomed to due to disabilities getting worse (I walk with a cane and have back, hip, and shoulder pain constantly even though I'm 31 and it's been a problem since my early 20's) So far your videos on the subject have been super helpful! I'm a bigger guy in height and I have broad shoulders but being 6ft. 3in. tall and broad shouldered I'm also not very strong and I only weigh 190 pounds so I'm a bean pole.
    So far I've found the upper body strikes and the grappling most applicable but due to my legs not being the sturdiest, I tend to avoid too many low kicks outside of a couple of basic ones and some sweeps that I like to use for takedowns. Your videos have really opened my eyes and made Wing Chun very viable for me despite my failing body and my limitations, so I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your work and what it has done for me.

    Its dirty but another trick you can do to help control tall people is step on their foot as you strike them so they stumble or fall. Be careful using this with friends if they fall and you keep your foot on their foot it may break their ankle! ALOT of people leave their lead leg way out and its super easy to simply step on their foot and keep your foot on their foot and trap them.

    People will understand the real power of Wing Chun when they actually experience it in live practice. Many people underestimate the efficiency of a dynamic martial arts like Wing Chun because they don't see any aggression in a Wing Chun practitioner in videos. But Wing Chun is a soft yet most powerful and effective combat system and science.

    • @N8ive49er
      @N8ive49er 5 месяцев назад

      It's also very situational...Wing Chun isn't designed to fight a boxer or someone that would utilize space and distance. It was developed (said to have been done so by women) to deal with close quarters situations where space and movement is limited between both you and your opponent.

    Wing chun was developed by monks for women monks. It is about tactical movements to deflect and redirect kinetic force. It is not designed to impart power or defeat your opponent. In my opinion it is great for setting yourself up for the second response which is to utilize some other form of attack, which can be a martial art or use of a weapon. Wing chun looks like it’s for attacking only when a man employs it. Wing chun alone will get the shit kicked out of you.

    Demonstration subjects are trying to be helpful to the sifu and that's great. But I assure you, dear students, when you're pretending that you're losing balance every time your sifu moves a pinkie for example, you're actually not helpful at all, it looks stupid and fake. Especially that dumb trample thing. Nobody actually does that in reality, and at best you're showing that haven't even learned basic balance and basic relaxation in your classes.
    I know where this is coming from, it's a common tactic employed by fake martial arts masters, especially in arts like tai chi and aikido that sometimes like to pretend that they use supernatural forces. But Francis Fong doesn't need fakery, he doesn't need you to try to make him look good because he's the real deal by himself. Just be natural, please.

In my longish life, I've known back yard street boxers who could wipe the floor with dojoists. Practicing with a school is great for your life, but your sifu is probably not the best and you should stay out of fights.
