    It's so funny to see Wonderboy taking lessons. This guy is already a very high degree striker with a lot of pedigree. But he's so humble that behaves as a child when starts to learn new things. Stephen is a very very nice guy. :D

      That's a big concept amongst followers of Jesus. You have to become like a child to be a true disciple.
      "And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, 'Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'" Matthew 18:2-4

      @@MrShoblang This misses the point by miles and comes across as just a way to take shots at a philosophy you disagree with... the point is that Stephen is a deeply religious person and he's putting the relevant and applicable teachings of his religion into practice in other aspects of his life. Nice to see a UFC fighter appreciating how Wing Chun can up their game. A lot of other videos talking about Wing Chun seem to be all about "myth busting" and showing how it's outdated or just doesn't work in modern contexts. I've never understood that mentality. All martial arts have strengths and weaknesses. A good fighter learns from what works, no matter where it comes from.

      To be fair, they are looking at a system as a total and not the individual techniques. Like small elements can work but a system as a whole could be broken.

    • @Checkthisontube
      @Checkthisontube 2 года назад +28

      The issue with traditional Chinese martial art is that most of it didn't evolve and maybe even devolved.
      Due to a huge popularity and demand in the west many used it for exploitation and to just make money.
      You got lot of people who were teaching without ever being in a real fight themselves.
      It lacked competition and sparring which resulted into choreographed drilling, which I think watered down everything.
      Think Wing Chun just has to do a lot of catching up and polish in that regard to get back on track to evaluate what is effective and what is just to complicated fancy.

    • @Zcorck
      @Zcorck 2 года назад +8

      I think part of it is due to most people's experience with it only being in movies, whereas they've been able to see real-life application of MMA in stuff like UFC. In America, more than 72% (2020 CDC stat) are overweight or obese. In the remaining 28%, there's also a lot to cross out due to all the other physical activities that people engage in. So that leaves a very small amount of people in America who's been properly exposed to Kung Fu.
      But I think there's also a good amount that have had bad experiences due to being deceived by grifters, which there are in every field, which is why the proper ones would show off their lineages to prove that they're legit.
      There's also been a need for re-adjustment due to China being a 3rd world country for so long, only recently(from a historical perspective) becoming a developing nation.
      So you have a lot of practitioners being below a competitive weight class or just lacking a fit body. Moreover, a lot of Kung Fu are also lacking in fitness training to develop their bodies optimally.

      Thanks for mentioning it, I totally forgot.
      Think the insane focus on lineage did a lot of damage.
      It helped to avoid being challenged.
      My experience with multiple teachers was that training is almost pure theory.
      While other martial arts paid their dues and went in hard.

      He learns so fast, has amazing distance management, and is really explosive with very low to no telegraphing! I loved that he picked up using the pak Sao da to catch jabs coming in. It's one of my favorite things to do sparring and is nice to make them hesitant to throw jabs. With how good Stephen already is at getting great explosive power without telegraphing it he can be even more of a monster with the vertical punch coming out of no where.

      i don't particularly care that much about wing Chung (tkd/kick-boxer) but ill never completely right it off because i know any style can be used to great effect if the right athlete comes along and practice it in a pressure environment. it wont look as flowery and as pretty but it will be effective. remember how karate was looked at because of all the fake karate experts and the experts who never actually fight getting their ass beat, all it took was a few good karate practitioners to modify it test it and use it practically. As it turns out point karate is the best version of karate to use in mma due to its distance striking. so you never know.

    • @Zcorck
      @Zcorck 2 года назад +8

      @@ky-passley4769 I agree. Nearly 400 years ago, Miyamoto Musashi said the same:
      "There are many people who, even when studying the Way of the Martial Arts, think that these skills will not be useful in real situations. In fact, the true Way of the Martial arts is to train so that these skills are useful at any time, and to teach these skills so that they will be useful in all things."
      And I think that it's not just in fighting or sports in general, but in all disciplines, that you need knowledge, compatibility with said discipline as well as understanding of how to apply that knowledge in order to excel in that field.

      A lot of the concepts about the Wing Chun techniques that Kevin Lee explained to Wonderboy i already have mastered😉💯😎👊👊🔥. I'm now on my way to becoming a Master of Wing Chun. Others fighters call me the Unbeatable😁, Untouchable 😎 and even Ip Man😂. Wing Chun is like my wife, my only true love so i'm spending a lot of my study-time on Wing Chun. Only because i want to a Master and teach it to others. My biggest dream is to teach Security Guards, Police and even The Army of my country.😁👊👊💯. I can end a fight within seconds. I fight with softness and hardness at the same time and it works effectively😉. I love fighting soft though. You just don't get tired when u soften your fighting style. Doesn't matter what style you fight. People also call me the Second Bruce Lee because of my speed😁. I'm really really fast. Before you know it i'm already done fighting with you😉

      I did too until I studied Sayoc Kali and it started to express itself spontaneous while drilling and sparring. Besides that learn Gulao Pin Sun (side body) drills, and cross train with Hakka, Fujian, and Okinawan Martial Arts such Isshin Ryu, Uechi Ryu, Southern Mantis, Bak Mei, and Southern White Crane. The drills and conditioning for the most part are applicable to Wing Chun. Besides these Greco-Roman Wrestling drills will give experience of controlling range and dominating the clinch. The White Crane and Wing Chun I learned had an extensive Qin Na Fa curriculum in it, but it was the drills I learned while doing Greco-Roman Wrestling that enabled me to do them at will.

      @@kevionrogers2605 Your experiences almost perfectly mirrors mine; started with Isshin Ryu, then did a lot of Jook Lum Southern Mantis for years, when my teacher left, I did Uechi Ryu for a while, more recently learned some Pak Mei, all the time still doing my Southern Mantis. I want to add a grappling art and am convinced Greco Roman is what I want, but can't find an instructor near me. I think its throws better reflect life in modern times than Judo's Gi dependent throws, especially for a Florida boy, where people mostly wear light tops, T-shirts, or no shirt.

      To be fair, depending on where you were learning Wing Chun, it's entirely possible that what you were learning was entirely useless. Many instructors of traditional Chinese martial arts don't know how to apply what they're teaching in a real fight - they're so focused on the how to perform the techniques that they forget the why the techniques exist in the first place, so the style doesn't evolve as it encounters opposition.

      Same as hung gar Kung Fu
      You have an amazing mixture of styles
      And that makes you very formidable
      Wrestling and grappling were removed from old school boxing

    your wing chun content is dope, I remember for years ppl would be like "oh that doesn't work, its fake, etc." I never believed them bc about 20 yrs ago when I was in hs one of my teachers was a wing chun master and he had all the respect from the "troublemaker" kids cuz he would give them life advice but would also prove his techniques weren't fake, usually by demonstrating them on ppl lol. Anyways one time i wanted to see for myself so I asked if we could to light sparring in class (i was taking boxing at the time) and he demonstrated how much faster and stronger he was. I tried to parry his punch that he threw very casually, both of our forearms clashed, except im sure his was intentional, and I swear to god I thought he broke my forearm. I went down immediately in pain. Anyways he was a legend in school, and whenever someone would say wing chun doesn't work, I would think back to him and be like well it works for some ppl, and let me tell you I wouldn't want to go up against that teacher in a street fight lol.

      Take it from a wc guy who throws check hooks, shovel uppercuts, and short burst elbows when ever he can. Those sharp check hooks are hard to time when in the heat of the moment but a good firm tan da theoretically should stop them with shifting your angle slightly and good structure. If you are that close just don't take the risk and find another way in or to get your damage, imo.

    Very cool to see a top level mma guy is showing interest in wing chun. As a wing chun / Chinese boxing practitioner and coach, I like this functional, no bs approach very much ! The first shown technique, the "turning /slant body punch", I used to do with a slight shift. The version with the step is awesome ! I'll practice this for sure in class tomorrow.

My lineage came from inosanto to dan Anderson to phil cruz n me. 3rd n 4th generation. Much thanx n love for putting respect on wing chun n jkd

    I love the positive attitude ! btw the way you showcased the vertical punch at the start, was kinda influenced from JKD straight lead punch ! Thank you for the nice video : )

    damn i really really liked the first technique show this is really clever ! the little change of angle for the jab with it's 'weird' tempo is really unexpected specially because we are so used to 'feel' the movement of the hips

    Sheesh I love the quick wing chun techniques you can sprinkle in your game. It’s one of them martial arts you don’t have to do for years to be good but ofc itll make u better, but the stuff is relatively easy to pick up

    After so many years of training, the best fighters always have this response, "hey!, that could work, I can use that" when they are presented to a different technique from different school.

    A great presentation of the practical and, above all, effective side of Wing Chun. It is worth gaining knowledge from others and not closing yourself off to news. Great material, great work!!! Regards

    Great content I was a black belt at age 17 it took me 8 years. So no BS and my Dad was a drill sergeant a self defensive practioner. I learned how to fight getting my ass kicked in Miami where I grew up. I love theses vids and Jesse Enkamp has some really good content as well.. It reminds of my Dad and I going over drills and sparring. He always had something else to show me.
