- Love or hate Nissan’s SR20 four pot motor, there’s some places where it just makes perfect sense. Like some vintage JDM machinery… like, let’s say, a Datsun 510. And Rob Fuller of Z Car Garage put this swap together before some of you were even born… before SR swaps were a big thing. And guess what, it still rips!

Let’s talk about that lil’ oxidized red car in the background.
Do you and/or can you make a print of the Bronco wheelie?
Larry you don't have , great shots of Orange Bang. You had a few but seemed like your heart wasn't in it.
Get into it a do that Z justice ! And put some "RIPE" pictures of Orange Bang up for sale.......
you probably dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf these days :)
@Hunter Kaden Definitely, been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :D
"One sports company could get lucky and make one iconic sports car, Nissan made a habit of it."
For some reason this really sticks out to me
Rob Fuller is who I want to be in my next life. Such a character
Why not this life?

"No"
Uhhhhhh…. 20psi, sir.
Rob would be so much fun to chill with and talk cars with and go on a drive with! He would be the guy having fun leavin tire prints down the road wherever he felt like and just having an ear to ear smile on his face the entire time living life like your supposed too!!!!!keep on keeping on!!! Cant wait to start my old z build soon
I could listen to this dude all day... love his passion, his voice, his chill... so good!
I wish I could find a love like that. Such a beautiful car and I respect his enjoyment of it.
GREAT CAR GREAT STUFF !!!!! I always wanted one of these. I have owned a 260 and 280 Z's I feel regret every time I think of them. 280 with neat mural on the hood killed by drunk driver. The 260 sold out of need but bought to fill the void of the 280. Still LONG LIVE DATSON!
I want to own one so bad! This is going to have me go down a 2 in the morning binge watch of 510 videos
Awesome! Such a great inspiration for my buddy! He has a 510 wagon painted this same color and its a work in progress...
Holy shit, never knew they made a 510 wagon! That's awesome
Larry Chen, introducing me to every car I never knew I wanted.
I've always wanted a 510 and about ten years ago you could get clean ones for cheap now I have saw them for $20-$30k
That's pretty much everything now.
The classic MIJ (made in Japan) cars the best. Shout out from Petaluma, 1.5 hours north of San Jose, classic car capital of NorCal.
When the owner of the car says jam it, you jam it!
In the Trifecta the Grandson of the 510 was born into the B13 Sentra SE-R. Lest not forget that
In the Mid - 70's . the Pirelli 185/70/13 CN36 was one of the best tires in the World !
The doctor! Super chill dude!
Someday I will have a 510 to share.
Larry : 400 horse power!! *puts5 fingers up* lol

NO F*ckn clue about Rob Fuller & Zcargarage....Cool owner-builder
Sick 510 !!!
Very nice ! Mount Shasta datsun meets were legendary so I hear.
Very cool looking 510
22:30 Larry from Hoonigan getting scumbagged ahaha
Spectacular build 😍
The Shasta days are missed, I still have my badges and awards as well!
Such a beautiful car🥇
Love the Skittles Lime Color..lol
this dude is my favorite.
My first car was a 71 510 that we called Kermit.
Beauty datsun 510
He's definitely not hooking up. In my 510 I run a 205 width RE-71R with 345whp, a 3.7 R200 Tomei LSD, and don't have traction until 3rd gear. But anything less than full throttle is still fun. That being said, I am trying to squeeze 245 width tires under the car. #4G63510
Is the 4G63 a Mitsubishi Motor? Maybe from a Starion or Eclipse? I have a 74 Dodge Colt with a 1600 cc Hemi and would love to do a swap with a more potent Mitsubishi motor. BTW, the Colt is a Mitsubishi, every nut and bolt!!!
@@radicalrobason several people have done Colt swaps. My engine is from the Eclipse variety.
A green car in front a green evergreen container thats tuff
Is this in San Jose, California? It sure looks like it lol
Hipster Maury and his mean green
Minimum on rear tyres for Smart car are 205".....!!!!

Rob is a national treasure. Show some of his Z32TTs
Thank you Larry for featuring another 510. We need more Datsuns in this channel. Thank you once again! :)
Love this guy. He's such a character. You can see the passion he has and his 510 is the perfect example.
He definitely gets thumbs up for that intercooler!
“Put it in 3rd gear, Jam it” well said👍🤘
The look of disappointment on Rob's face whenever Larry would let off the gas... 😂
*real drivers car*
*overpowered light weight*
*no traction control, no abs*
I wish Rob Fuller was my friend. He comes across as an absolute legend.
Agreed the opportunity would be cool
“Nah it’s okay. I told you we’re not going to stop”… most gangster part of the video! Haha
Back in high school, about '88 I guess, a 510 came up for sale for $800. It was track ready with a massive wide body kit and fully built engine and suspension. But it had the hood fly up and smash the windshield at 120mph on the Pasadena freeway. I had the money to buy it but none to fix it up. Boy I wish I'd just bought it now.
MotionautoTV has a 510 in the same colour with the same engine
Do they still have it?
@@equieh Yes they do. Just waiting for it's time.
It's in the back of his home garage being used as a shelf... 400ish horse built Sr...
I literally only clicked on the video thinking it was Trevor's build. Lol
Rob’s builds are just epic. SJ Datsun legend
Please make a Rob Fuller playlist on your channel! Not sure I’ve seen all your videos with him.
Larry reaction to the car is like going raw on your 1st date.. Lmao.
lmfao!!!!!!
One highlight of my life is working for Rob and driving/repairing all the amazing cars that go through ZCG. Rob is a living legend!
Thank you ,Larry, you keep bring Rob out and I'm starting to understand his obsession, with things like factor clutch fans on a Z.
Make in the 1980's and 90's .I swapped very Datsun steering wheel for a smaller thicker one. Now I have 240 steering wheel on my 240 and my back dated 280. I insisted on having the original wheel.
For no other reason than ,every body changed them, but the factory 240Z steering wheel, is a true , work of ART ! It's the perfect size and the perfect diameter.
But you have to live alot, drive alot, and then you get to understand the beauty, the ART of the Original Z Concept.
Thanks Larry, Thanks Rob
This was fun !
I still have the Modified magazines that featured both of Robs green machines, such treasures this guy has.
You two are the best dudes in automotive scene
I got a shit 4 door 510 back in the 90s when I was in auto trade school. Lots of steering play. Finally took a good look and the FRAME was cracked right under where the steering gear bolted up. Everything you'd expect from a $500 car. 2 inch thin doors make for an exciting experience on the freeway, not something I would recommend without a cage. I still loved it, tho. Only tool I had was a flathead in the glove box; if I didn't like the way it was running I'd just get out and tune the carb. So simple...
LOVE this episode! I've been obsessed with 510s since the 80s, and have an SR in my current open class auto-X 510. It started racing with a fat lazy GT3071R that went ape shit crazy after 4,500rpm. Even with Xanax and ear plugs it was terrifying to drive. It has a GT-X2867R now, so +boost at 2,250 rpm, flat predictable peddle response all the way to 380whp at 20psi. Put's it down on 205 15s cleanly tucked under stock rear fenders, and 195s up front. With JBCW's rack & pinion kit, it's a Mini Godzila that's terrifyingly fun to drive.
I was thinking about 510’s because not only its mothers day but it is 5/10/21. But yeah I was thinking about 510’s and all of a sudden this video popped up.
Yo. It’s 5/9 here but time travel could be possible.
the car is ok, but can i get a build breakdown on that man's moustache and beard game
'Actually its a green top, Larry' 😂😂😂😂
In the mid 80's in Puerto Rico🇵🇷 we started to save them, and looked at it now, you guys are enjoying them. It was worth the sacrifice and vision of the future with the 70's and 80's Japanese cars. This where the dreams of the poor man who work to achieve and be proud of the hard work whom people admire his craftsmanship. JOB WELL DONE AND ENJOY!
'when your Momo steering wheel is starting to separate' love it! This is just not a total restoration, has bunch of history kept in it. Great!!!
The 510s are getting rarer when I bought my 1968 five years ago there were a few now I see none for sale. My SR20DET was the best thing I did.
Was that shipping container blocking the driveway by any chance?
The hood on my 510 literally did that two weeks ago, if only this video had came out before...
Hahaha!! Did he just lay a patch in front of the cops?!?! LoL!! Love it!!! 😂
Duuuuuude! I laughed at the curse of the 510 hood. Remember going on a trial run with my built NAPZ motor back in the 90's... maiden run on the airport roads in Cameron Park. WHAM the hood slammed up into the windshield...
Miss that 73. Have a 72 with an almost wrapped up SR swap. Remember your car from way back in the day.
Young man you're not old if you don't remember playing 8-track tapes in a car stereo. LOL
Amazing car.
If Rob Fuller was an action figure, he comes with the Datsun 510.
Absolutely beautiful set up. Love the sr-20 det.... its amazing.
To my mind....the 510 was the perfect urban vehicle. The toughest little car I have ever owned.
I was gona sell my 92 sentra 2dr but after this Im just gona do the swap😍
I see Rob Fuller, Zcargarage, and Larry Chen and I immediately have to watch the full video to the end. Rob's passion for Datsun's in truly infectious, keep the content flowing!
First car was a 72 510 wagon. Mint condition. Loved that car. Also owned 3 510's back in the day. Looking to replace that collection soon. Who in Los Angeles does this type of cool engine swap? Thank you for the cool vids..
Gee...185 section tires. Can’t imagine why he can’t get traction. 🤣. Kidding aside, absolutely love this car. What an awesome build.
I love 510's. I wish I had a wagon version 👌🏼
My grandpa had a PMC 510 Skyline, he dragged it into the woods and parked it behind a big bolder 40 years ago, we dragged it out this year and sold it to a PMC/Datsun enthusiast.
This is one of the first cars of his that I focused on when I was there having my Z worked on. I didn't realize it at first that it was his car, until he told me about it. I just love looking at all the cool cars he has there whenever I go there; I try not to be too much of a pest because I know they have a lot of work to do but it's like being a kid in a candy shop. Long live the Z.
This car is simply super fucking fantastic!!! Love it. Dream car list for me 200%
My first car was a 77 Datsun 200 SX. So this hits special place in my heart
That Turbo Sounds So Quick !!! Love That Beautiful Motor Bay !!!
Nobody :
Larry at 21:12 : 🖐🏻 four hundred horsepower
i wonder how many psi boost it makes.. standard sr 20 only about 200plus hp
Bro!!! I love the Fair Lady but this Datsun build...is insanely cool too!
Hey Larry, it’s (The Artist FKA Event Horizon Artworks), this is like a dream car of my Father and I. A build we always wanted to do together but age and spine stuff took us both out. That being said, we love watching your channel and seeing these rides.
This reminds me of my Corolla TE72 with a 4TGTE back in 1986. Clean, nice and fast, ac and all creature comforts. 4 way disc brakes with LSD. HKS suspension and Tokici Illumina 5 way shocks. 14" Panasport. Pirelli P7F Weight, 2200 lbs.
This is the definition of built not bought, as you grow in age the car grows in power and looks so you create bond with the car, as you can see putting it in someone else's hands it will be too much. The owner could of buy a car equipped with same power but won't enjoy the bond... really love this car and the relationship he has with it 😊😊
The lesser known Datsuns are so slept on dude!🔥 please do some more videos on 140Y/B210 and SSS chassis cars
For me it will always be the 620, from the days of cruising Lancaster boulevard with my cousin in his king cab in the 80's to taking my oldest daughter for the first ride in dad's minitruck. It is Datsun to me, and always the best.
"You're pretty much not making traction, ever!" R. Fuller May 2021. I fully concur. Rob built my z32 and it's the exact same way... it pretty much never makes traction ever till its heat soaked and calmed down. Larry you always interview my favorites, whether it's at KOH or in SJ with Z Master Rob Fuller.
Z car garage rocks!. Inspiration to work more on my 620
The owner badassss OG
As a 2 door 510 owner myself let me say nice job! Mine is in process of a unique swap of an engine from the company that the l series engine has its roots. If you trace its history you will find it’s not a Datsun engine and came from another car company. Yup completely code lol.
Mercedes...At least the design.
Love this coming from the UK it reminds me of a Lotus Cortina slightly shrunk down, and what a sleeper at it is guts must think look at that old Kermit rebuild and then it shoots off and leaves you in the horizon🤣 Love this guys garage look forward to seeing all these cars please they're so cool.👊 you guys need to drift this round a track it would be so cool
I like how appreciative the builder is to a compliment of his baby. "Thank You"
I saw you guys take your first drive in your freasg SR20 Z. Now I'm hooked on this stuff. I've had 3 Zs and never finished one. 1 stock motor, 1 set up for solo 2, and the last a Chevy SB hybrid. All were fun. I'm loving this 510. As a kid there were 3 in my area painted like factory racers. Watching those guys at autocross and rainy day stunts was so much fun. I never realized how special those days were. Also had a 521 pick up. That thing was great. Seeing the cars in tge background has me wanting to come back and see more.
Badd ass. Larry looks like Bruce Lee in those shades.
what a great 510 . i had a 71 datsun 521 pickup. i really like this car . sweet ride its perfect . just loving it
I love this dudes passion for his car
You know you’re old when you keep saying “You know you’re old when...”
Build sounds like a labor of love. Realized I had the identical steering wheel on my 85 CRXsi, but mine came from Mugen, with their badging. (This before either of you two yung whuppersnappers were born, BTW.) LOL!
The Monopoly guys son knows his shit !
Such a nice piece of Nissan history, awesome car.
