Give it a year or two and The Flash is going to be one of DC’s best collected comicbook properties in Omni format. The whole silver age Barry run is collected, nearly every single Wally solo issue will be collected, already got New 52 and Rebirth will be done soon as well. All that’s left is Jeremy Adams and the Bronze Age Barry issues that bridge silver age and Post Crisis (Flash 200-350) and then you’d have the two most popular characters to have the name completely collected in oversized hardcover
Messner-Loebs is one of my favorite writers, because his characters are so human, with real reactions and relationships. One of the best character moments during this Flash run is at one point Chunk confronts Wally for treating their friendship so disposably, and Wally admits he's been a jerk to him. That issue with Wally begging on the cover puts him through an experience that makes him more sympathetic to the homeless in the city. Messner-Loebs brings out emotions in a very organic way that compliments the action. I'm really hoping we get a volume 2 which has some great Linda moments and of course Piper. But only this volume has Wally teaming up with Fidel Castro to save the world from the Durlans during Invasion - he even speeds off carrying Castro on his back. I know people are complaining about the cover change, but this cover is by LaRoque and the old one was Guice, so they probably wanted a cover from the primary artist. Plus, this volume is very much about Wally being out-of-control - his powers, his finances, his love-life, his family and friends. In that sense, the cover fits, and I don't think it's much worse than any of the Johns Flash omnibus covers, which I've never cared for.
Ordered ! I certainly hope for a volume 2 of this one, the end of the Mark Waid run, and the start of the Bronze Age era of Flash. If they do publish them, that would make the Flash omnibus collection one of the most complete between 1956 and the nineties !
I was very pleased that they went with matching spines to the Waid omni. Hopefully that's a sign DC are planning ahead and both runs won't take too long to get made

Wally West is my favourite superhero and I can’t wait to finally read these issues! Looking forward to volume 2 of Mesner Loebs and volumes 2 and 3 of Waid to come out so I can just have a big Wally read along with the Johns run.
Haven't read much Flash, but the art here looks delightful, the cartoonishly fat guy and the spikes growing from Wally especially. Those Manhunter issues give me hope that maybe one day soon we'll see that collected too.
Honestly I'm glad to hear they didn't immediately make him likable with no explanation after he became the Flash. Because in the pre-crisis Wolfman and Perez Titans comics, MAN was Wally an unlikable asshole.
DC let Wally West grow as a character with a wife and kids. This is the way Peter Parker should have been written as well. Instead Marvel always wipes out his marriage and regresses him back to when he started out.
Loebs also wrote and drew a great creator owned series called Journey. I think it’s now out of print, but I’d love to see a new collection of that series.
Definitely getting this book as not an era of Wally West I'm very familiar with, but always wanted to read about. Would have preferred they use a different spine treatment for WML/MB to differentiate from Waid run (since Johns run already has a different look) but not a dealbreaker. Thx for review!
While this is after crisis this comic started more than year later and after the Legends event. I am not sure where else if any Flash Wally appeared in this year gap between becoming The Flash in Crisis and this series.

Not as good as Waid, but still decent. Messner Leobs is the reason why Wally is open minded and progressive. Wally since the early 80s New Teen Titans was an unlikable jerk, so Leobs slowly undid all of Wally's A**hole behaviour. This run is enjoyable because of that character development.

This book sets a good example of how a Rookie of the year would look like plus add one more year to the cause. But it keeps a pace of interesting growth. Comic relief formula. Worth a mention how Wallys dad takes his job serious enough to make sacrifices that would cost the people he loves thier lives for the saving of the world he was sworn to protect no matter what; for example let 300 people die and the world is saved or the entire world can die no other alternatives inbetween. So when the invasion is over I (me) the reader have i not read everything including the parts about the Durlans, Darksied , thats in invasion story and the what if story about the invasion i would have found it difficult what to believe in the end of this omnibus alone by itself. That deadman part of invasion made my head spin do your self extra and read the entire invasion story. Dr lights story ends with an opportunity to connect your readers to amanda waller suicide squad. *Correction* The man hunter was hired by wallys mom not his dad. IMO an alien race of durlans or higher class there lack of would make a device so dumb that the human race would see that same device as super intelligent so they feel more safe certain and in control of future invasions, because its not about the money if you never said it was.
I was curious if you were going to do any of the DSTLRY collected editions Somna had 3 different versions (Reg, DM, & Exclusive) and Gone comes out this week with looks like only 2 (Reg & DM). I was wondering if they were worth buying.
I will eventually buy it but just for completion purposes. I seriously dislike Messner Loebs writing. Mike Baron did fine and should have gotten more billng in this book.

Loebs wrote ‘The Maxx’ too. You could really see the difference when Sam Kieth took over.

About 15 years. Volume 3 ends with 199 and the series ends with 350. Maybe 4-5 more Omnis?

Probably because Loebs wrote more issues and the volume 2 will have nothing but William Messner Loebs stories.

If there is any proof that Barry Allen is the Flash. His name is the biggest thing on the back cover. This is my problem with legacy characters.
