      Ryan Newton Geoff Johns is a good writer. He's got an insane ability to understand the character he is writing, voice, personality etc. very well. His New 52 Aquaman run remains my personal favorite because he took a character who had been stagnant(I'm a huge Aquaman fan and I'll admit; outside say Peter David's run, he hadn't had a big hit) and made him awesome. Especially, the Throne of Atlantis story arc which to me was great.

    Man, so many great runs of Flash, post crisis. Mark Waid -> Geoff Johns -> Francis Manapul -> Joshua Williamson -> Jeremy Adams. He is arguably the most important character in the DC universe.

    I can relate to how weird it was for Barry Allen to come back. I remember Wally West being my Flash, whether it be in Justice League/ JLU's animated series or reading the Johns/ Waid era of Flash comics. And yeah; New 52 what happened with Wally, that wasn't great.. A part of me wants to pick this up. I have the first two volumes and loved it and I enjoy Flashpoint a lot. I may just pickup the Flashpoint Omnibus instead. Flashpoint was a solid story, given the unique alternative reality presented. I especially love(SPOILER ALERT)
    Thomas Wayne as Batman and Martha Wayne as the Joker. (SPOILER END) Overall, Geoff Johns is someone who I adore as a writer and got me into reading DC.

    Flashpoint, from what I understand, was always going to be a Flash event miniseries, but the transition into the New 52 was a DiDio addition. Geoff Johns has never really said what the original ending to Flashpoint was to be, but I know it had to be better than the New 52 (my opinion).
    And yes, pre-Crisis Barry Allen's parents were both alive.
    As for my favorite Flash: Jay Garrick is the best, but then one of my first comics was THE FLASH (1959 series) #229, a team-up of the Earth-1 and Earth-2 Flashes against Rag Doll.

    The gap and swip swap of protagonist identity's what made me decide to not even put the book alongside the first two volumes.
    I kind of just have them by themselves, meanwhile I have my N52 shelf start with Geoff Johns Flash vol 3, then Flashpoint omni, and then the Manapul omni as it goes into the other N52 collections... Still need to get Grayson though, hope that omni comes back in some way or form.
    Or better yet, I'd love if Flash Rebirth gets an omnibus, or 'Joshua Williamson' omnibus. Whichever one it'd be, I'd buy that in a heartbeat that run was phenomenal, and it always confused me that it never got more Deluxe Edition hardcovers made.
    Still though, great video Omar, definitely looking forward to reading through this one. 👍

    PSA: To the NMC Flash Fans.
    Geoff Johns did add the Murdered Mother trope to the “Flash: Rebirth”.
    However, Barry Allan did have one tragic plot line that played itself out in the ( Silver Age ) Flash monthly comic. That was, Barry Allen’s murder of Reverse Flash, in stopping him from killing his wife Iris West.
    That storyline led into “ The Trial of The Flash” storyline.
    The final sentencing of that storyline was Guilty!
    Which Barry Allan managed to evade, by time traveling into the Future.
    That was the status of the Flash, that DC Comics Writer Marv Wolfman found him in as he Plotted out Crisis On Infinite Earths.
    Barry Allan’s death in Crisis On Infinite Earths # 8, allowed Barry Allan to leave behind a HEROIC Legacy, versus that of a time traveling hero accused and convicted of murder in the 20th Century.
    This “ sacrifice “ allowed Barry Allan to pass the mantle of The Flash to Wally West to create a fresh untainted start.
    The second Flash monthly series was published with a # 1 issue on June-1987, with a whopping cover price of .75 cents.
    The creative Team were:
    1)Writer: Mike Baron
    2)Penciler: Jackson Guice
    3)Inker: Larry Malhstedt
    With that # 1 issue the NEW LEGEND of Wally West as “ The Flash “ was sealed into the fans consciousness, and into the new mainstream DC Universe.
    Long Live WALLY WEST..!!
    ⚡️ THE FLASHHHH…⚡️
    Sincerely,
    ⚡️ KidFlash..!! ⚡️
    Thank You.

    I also grew up with Wally West, mostly due to the Justice League Unlimited series. I forced myself to stay away from Barry Allen as much as possible because I felt he threatened my bias towards Wally. But then I couldn't take it anymore and decided that Jay Garrick should be my favorite Flash instead. Then Wally West became the Flash and he ended up becoming my legitimate favorite. I hated how they randomly decided to kill him off just to bring Wally West back. I still loved the character, but they basically just brought him back like an animal. With that in mind, I actually ended up being excited to find out Barry Allen was finally being brought back. I don't believe any character has ever been brought back quite as well as Barry Allen. And after finally reading some of the original silver and bronze age runs, it's like I finally realized who THE FLASH really is and what his mantle really means. The entire Flash mythology literally revolves around Bartholomew Henry Allen. No Barry means no Flash mythology, comic continuity or real life applications. Barry Allen's character is the one character consistently shaping the actual world just by shaping the DC universe, just out of the need of entertainment through creativity.

    I totally relate and agree with your assessment of this period of Flash but ill go one further. Johns adding the murder of his mom as part of Barry's backstory, was always to me a way to "Marvelize" the character namely give him a more tragic backstory like so many Marvel characters. Barry Allen has always been a pretty bland and dull character with his most notable thing he ever did was die during Crisis. I felt this was John's and DCs way of trying to give him more depth with ok success.
    I don't fault DC for trying and like Barry Allen being back to a certain degree, but just like you Wally West will always be my Flash. Frankly IMO Wally is and always has been a more interesting and 3 dimensional character vs Barry. Still looking fwd to picking this book up having never reading some the issues great overview as always.

    • @robertbartels1483
      @robertbartels1483 2 года назад +3

      Exactly. They gave Barry the dead parent trope because it was the only way to make him interesting. Barry was always just a nice, normal, boring person. There is nothing wrong with that and it worked great in the silver age, but he should have stayed in the silver age. They had much more interesting and modern character in Wally that they just decided to toss away.

    • @Carlos-xz3vi
      @Carlos-xz3vi Год назад

      Marvelize???? The Flash’s parents story is straight out Batman’s school of origin stories.

    • @arthurwoo6082
      @arthurwoo6082 Год назад

      @@Carlos-xz3vi What I mean by that is to have some kind of "tragic origin backstory" that spurs a character to want to become a hero and do good vs "just wanting to" so to speak.
      Yes Batman for DC is comparable but its more prevalent in Marvel characters vs DC. Examples: Spider-Man, Daredevil, Thing, Dr Strange, Iron Man, and many more hence the comment. Batman is arguably more of a "Marvel type" character when it comes to tragic origins and motivations for being a hero vs his DC counterparts.
